Abstract

The objective of the study was to improve the students’ learning independence for the subject of Mechanical Technology through Problem Based Learning. This study was categorized as a classroom action research. The subjects of study were the teacher and the grade X students of the Mechanical Engineering Department at SMK Negeri Kulon Progo. The data collection techniques used tests, observation and documentation. The validity of the study was proven by triangulation. The data analysis technique was qualitative descriptive. The results of the study revealed an improvement of the students’ learning independence indicated by (1) the scores of the test satisfying the minimum mastery criterion increased from 25% to 70% (2) the increase of the students’ responsibility from 37% to 72% (3) The increase of the students’ learning discipline from 32% to 67% (4) The increase of the students ‘creativity and activeness from 14% to 65%. It is noted that Problem Based Learning can improve the students’ learning independence and achievement.

Abstract

This study determines the effect of the Work-Based Learning (WBL) model on achievement motivation of students in the Study Program of Mechanical Engineering at Vocational High Schools (VHS) compared to the Training Within Industry (TWI) model. This study used a quasi-experimental research method with a factorial design in two groups of XII grade vocational high school students of mechanical engineering. The data in the form of achievement motivation was collected using a questionnaire. The data were analyzed using two way Anova technique with α of 0.05. The results showed that (1) the students taught using the WBL model had a significantly higher achievement motivation than the achievement motivation of students taught using the TWI model; (2) students with high prior knowledge had a significantly higher achievement motivation than the achievement motivation possessed by students with moderate and low prior knowledge; and (3) there is an interaction between the use of learning models and students' prior knowledge towards students' achievement motivation. The findings indicated that the WBL model has the potential to improve the quality of learning outcomes of vocational education, especially in increasing students' achievement motivation, compared to traditional learning using the TWI model.

Abstract

The objectives of this study were (1) to determine the roles of the academic supervisors in the students’ characters development, and (2) to analysethe factors affecting the academic supervisors’ roles in the students’ characters development at the Department of Automotive Engineering Education. This study employed the survey research method. It was conducted at the Department of Automotive Engineering Education, the Faculty of Engineering, State University ofYogyakarta. The data was analysed using descriptive analysis. The results showed the academic supervisors have positive impact on the students characters development in the aspects of education and teaching, research, and community services, (2) the factors affecting the academic supervisors’ roles in the students’ characters development are (a) the different levels of the students’ maturity, it can be solved by  improving the students’ mind set, (b) psychological, socioemotional,and cultural differences. The solutions are continuing guidance through classes, workshops and private consultations, (3) The students perceivethat the role of the academic supervisors in their characters developmenthave positive impacts on the learning process, examinations, and academic services.

Abstract

The objective of this study was to describe a model of a professional teacher management system in the era of regional autonomy to improve the quality of education in Indonesia generally, in the levels of central government, provinces, and districts in accordance with the respective roles and responsibilities. This study is categorised into a policy study. This study involved 510 teachers, 293 headmasters or vice headmasters, and 32 heads of the education departments in the level of provinces or districts. This study was conducted using survey method. This study revealed (1) the problems related to the recruitment of teachers were resulted from three reasons namely: the incompatibility of teachers qualifications with the qualifications of applicants, the formation do not meet the needs and the teachers’ mutation process are not based on the teacher qualifications, (2) most of the teachers are not able to conduct scientific activities, specifically to write scientific papers, (3) the  career path system cannot cover the expectations, (4) the forum of professional competence development is highly influential in the teachers' professional development, (5) the teachers competence assessment are dominated by the headmasters and (6) the supervision who had been conducted is already qualified. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeksripsikan model sistem pengelolaan guru profesional di era otonomi daerah untuk meningkatkan mutu pendidikan di Indonesia  secara umum, di tingkat pusat, propinsi, maupun kabupaten atau kota sesuai dengan peran dan wewenang masingmasing. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kebijakan. Studi ini dilakukan terhadap sampel sebanyak 510 orang guru Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan, 293 orang kepala sekolah atau  wakil kepala sekolah, dan 32 orang kepala dinas pendidikan Propinsi, Kabupaten atau Kota. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan dengan menggunakan metode survei. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa (1) permasalahan yang berkaitan dengan pengadaan guru Sekolah Menegah Kejuruan bersumber pada tiga hal yaitu ketidaksesuaian kualifikasi guru dengan kualifikasi pelamar, formasi tidak sesuai dengan kebutuhan, dan mutasi guru SMK yang tidak didasarkan pada kualifikasi guru, (2) belum seluruh guru Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan dapat melakukan kegiatan ilmiah terutama menulis karya ilmiah, (3) sistem jenjang karir yang selama ini berjalan kurang memenuhi harapan, (4) forum peningkatan kompetensi professional sangat tinggi pengaruhnya pada pengembangan profesi guru, (5) praktik penilaian kompetensi guru selama ini didominasi oleh kepala sekolah, dan (6) supervisor yang selama ini berlangsung sudah memenuhi syarat.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine various defects in the welding joint works from the participants of Vocational High School students’ skills competition in Yogyakarta area for welding field. This study can be categorized as a qualitative descriptive study. The data collection method was using documentation. The data was analyzed using descriptive qualitative technique. The results showed that in the preparation, the students were lack of understanding and knowledge in determining the welding requirements, the welding current, the type of electrodes SMAW. In the welding process, some participants did not fulfil the welding procedure during the welding process such as mistakes in setting up the SMAW machine, setting the welding current properly, selecting an electrode based on the type and thickness of the workpiece, and mistakes in the process of fit up. In the post-welding process, there were a few mistakes such as the grinding process to clean weld spatter that damaged the ridge.

Abstract

This research aims to find out (1) motivation, (2) factors affecting motivation and (3) the most dominant factor affecting the motivation of Junior High School (SMP / MTs) students to Vocational Schools. This research belongs to cross-sectional survey. The population of this research is 12.037 of Grade VIII students from122 SMP/MTs at Sleman District. The research sample is 338 students who are taken randomly and proportionally. The instrument used is questionnaire with likert-scale and rating-scale. Data analysis techniques used are descriptive analysis, regression analysis and partial correlation analysis. Research results show that: (1) motivation of SMP/MTs students to go into Vocational School is good, the average is 73.40%; (2) factors affecting the motivation are social economic status of student’s parents, mass media, student’s environment, and students’ individual characteristics with 72.5% and the rest which is 27.5% is affected by other factors; (3)the most dominant factor is students’ individual characteristics, and then followed by mass media factor, social economic status of students’ parents and students’ environment.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk membuat perangkat lunak aplikasi wap yang digunakan sebagai sistem informasi akademik mahasiswa di Jurusan Pendidikan Teknik Elektro FT UNY. Data-data yang tersedia dalam aplikasi ini adalah data mahasiswa, data dosen, data mata kuliah dan data nilai mahasiswa. Data-data tersebut dapat diakses melalui ponsel yang memiliki fasilitas wap. Pengembangan aplikasi dalam penelitian ini menggunakan metode pengembangan perangkat lunak yang melalui 4 tahapan. Tahapan pertama, analisis yaitu analisis kebutuhan pemakai, analisis kerja, dan context diagram. Tahapan kedua, desain meliputi Data Flow Diagram, perancangan database, desain diagram alir program (flowchart), desain menu yang dibuat dengan model HIPO (Hierarchy plus Input-Proses-Output) dan desain tampilan. Tahapan ketiga, implementasi yaitu tahap menterjemahkan modul-modul hasil desain dengan menggunakan bahasa pemrograman ke dalam bentuk aplikasi. Tahapan keempat, pengujian perangkat lunak yang dilakukan dengan sistem pengujian Black Box Testing. Pengujian dilakukan dengan cara menjalankan aplikasi wap tersebut dan dicoba diakses dengan menggunakan ponsel berbasis wap. Dari hasil pengujian Black Box Testing yang terdiri dari 22 item pengujian untuk subsistem administrator dan 13 item pengujian untuk subsistem user, didapatkan hasil bahwa semua item pengujian (100 %) dapat dilakukan dengan baik dan benar.

Abstract

This study aimed to describe the achievement of teacher learning in cognitive, affective and psychomotor in conducting professional development. This study was categorized as a descriptive study. The respondents of this study were teachers and students in the Department of Electrical Engineering at a Vocational Secondary School in Bangka Belitung. Methods of data collection used questionnaires. The data were analyzed with descriptive analysis. The results of this study consisted of: (1) teachers’ opinion, most teachers had worked very well in learning of cognitive, affective, and psychomotor, (2) students’ opinion, several teachers had succeeded in cognitive learning, and managed very well on affective and psychomotor learning.

Abstract

Vocational education is responsible for preparing the needs of a global workforce to develop the country's economy. understand the role of vocational education to work properly. The question that arises is how to cultivate their responsibilities for preparing vocational education to work? The solution offered is a framework to prepare vocational education to work. This understanding is bringing education to be able to follow the manpower needs in accordance However, issues of vocational education in developing countries are a lack of link and match between education and industry, lack of relevant skills of graduates with the needs of industry owners, the lack of quality, competencies, and professionalism of vocational teachers. The quality of teachers affects the quality of students' skills so that vocational teachers need to with local and global trends. Furthermore, using a literature review, steps to cultivate teacher's responsibilities were discussed in this paper. Finally, this framework grows teachers' quality in order to support state economic development.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan menemukan kesulitan-kesulitan mahasiswa dalam menyelesaikan proyek akhir (PA), yang meliputi: menentukan judul/topik, proses bimbingan, prosespengerjaan, menulis laporan, serta menemukan solusi permasalahannya.Penelitian ini termasuk penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Populasi penelitian adalah mahasiswa yang telah dan sedang mengerjakan Proyek Akhir pada tahun perkuliahan 2009/2010 dan Dosen Pembimbing PA jurusan Teknik Otomotif. Teknik sampling menggunakan ’incidental sampling’ yang didapat 55 mahasiswa dan 15 dosen pembimbing. Teknik pengambilan data menggunakan kuesioner dan wawancara sebagai pelengkap. Teknik analisis data menggunakan analisis deskriptif kualitatif.Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: Kesulitan terbesar mahasiswa datang dari faktor internal, khususnya kejiwaan mereka yang meliputi aspek motivasi dan tanggung jawab mahasiswa menyelesaikan proyek akhir. Hambatan berikutnya berturut-turut: faktor instrumental, lingkungan dan kejasmanian; Hambatan mahasiswa dalam pelaksanaan Proyek Akhir adalah dalam menentukan judul, melakukan perhitungan dan pembuktian dan masalah plagiat. Solusi yang disampaikan adalah mahasiswa perlu memilih dan menentukan judul yang feasibel, menambah wawasan pengetahuan teknik dan aplikasi otomotif, melatih kreativitas dan inovasi, memperdalam materi metodologi dan proaktif terhadap kegiatan bimbingan, membuat jadwal penggunaan bengkel dan dosen pembimbing di bengkel.
