Abstract

Salafis are known for their strong commitment to practicing Islam as literally as possible in accordance with the understanding of the Salaf (pious forefathers) generation in their daily life. Despite their claim to the purity of their Islamic interpretation, Salafism is historically constructed. This article deals with the taḥqīq (editing) of Riyāḍ al-Ṣāliḥīn endeavored by a renowned Salafi scholar, Nāṣir al-Dīn Al-Albānī. It aims to demonstrate how Salafism has been constructed. In doing so, it tries to detail how Salafism has become increasingly mainstreamed, a process we might call “Salafization”. This article argues that Al-Albānī did “Salafization” of Islamic intellectual tradition through taḥqīq. Using Gérard Genette’s paratextual analysis, this article unveils practices and discourses surrounding Al-Albānī’s textual editing. These practices and discourses were guided by his Salafi ideology. In his edition of Riyāḍ al-Ṣāliḥīn, there are three examples where Al-Albānī corrected popular Islamic understanding, including the relationship between intention (nīyah) and action (ʿamal), asmāʾ wa ṣifāt, and traditional religious practices and rituals.

Abstract

Fathul Qorib is the main reference for Islamic law studies in Indonesian Islamic boarding schools (Pesantren) because this book has a historical scientific heritage from the classical period of Islam. Indonesian Pesantrens have different characteristics in reading and learning Fathul Qorib based on conditions that develop and occur in the surrounding area. This paper uses the observation method by observing and interviewing students, ustadz/teachers, and kiai to trace patterns of knowledge transmission. The object of this research is Pesantren YAPINK and Attaqwa located in Bekasi district with two different types of Pesantren in terms of religious ideological background and the early history of the establishment of the Islamic boarding school. From the results of the research conducted, the reading of Fathul Qorib at the Pesantren YAPINK and Attaqwa has similarities and differences. The transmission of knowledge at YAPINK comes from internal and external sources because the teachers of the Fathul Qorib are graduated of YAPINK and other Pesantren such as Ploso Kediri and Sarang, while Attaqwa comes from internal-only because all Fathul Qorib teachers are from Attaqwa graduated.

Abstract

This research discusses the interpretation of pig xenotransplantation in the Qur'an according to the commentators and according to the theory of maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah by Jasser Auda. This research uses a type of library research which is presented using a qualitative research model with descriptive method. The results of the research show that the interpreters have different opinions regarding the prohibition of pork in the context of consumption (eating) alone or the prohibition of pork in all forms of use. Quraish Shihab is an interpreter who allows pig xenotransplantation. Based on the application of Jasser Auda’s theory of maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah theory, it was found that the systems approach containing six features, can be contextualized in analyzing the problem of pig xenotransplantation. In this case, pig xenotransplantation is permitted because of the urgency justified by sharia (ḍarurah shar’iyah), for which is the last alternative in efforts to preserve lives. Accordingly, although both of the results allow pig xenotransplantation, in this research it is explained how the steps or approaches were used to conclude the permissibility of pig xenotransplantation.

Abstract

Abstract

Conflict is a persistent social phenomenon in human life, often triggered by social change, differences in authority, interests, and culture. As a nation with high ethnic diversity, Indonesia is particularly vulnerable to ethnic conflict. This article aims to explore the genealogy of ethnic conflicts and propose alternative resolutions through a case study of the conflict between the Dayak and Madurese ethnic groups in West Kalimantan. The research employs documentation methods and Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) to gather data from relevant institutions, researchers, intellectuals, and conflict survivors. The findings reveal that conflicts are often sparked by personal incidents, yet their escalation is influenced by social, cultural, economic, and political factors. The limited role of the government in addressing these conflicts is identified as one of the main barriers to resolution. This article recommends multiculturalism-based resolution approaches and cross-cultural dialogue as efforts to build harmonious relationships between ethnic groups.

Abstract

This article explores the role of the Cirebon Keraton in shaping Indonesia’s national identity through the lens of Islamic politics and nationalist values. Based on interviews and historical data from the Cirebon Sultanate, the article analyzes how the sultans, particularly Sultan Muhammad Nurus, chose to align with the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI) rather than maintain an independent kingdom. Using an Islamic political framework that emphasizes the concepts of khilafah (leadership), syura (consultation), adalah (justice), and maslahah (public welfare), the article demonstrates how the Cirebon Keraton’s decision reflects a commitment to unity, social justice, and the welfare of the people. The findings reveal that the Keraton’s role, both through diplomacy and contributions to the independence movement, has become an integral part of Indonesia’s pluralistic and inclusive national identity. This article also presents an analysis of the relationship between the central government and local entities in maintaining national stability and preserving cultural and political values.

Abstract

Gender equality and justice has placed women in thoughts, behaviors, and decisions that are no longer limited by the patriarchal system. However, in the midst of women’s efforts to build justice, instead of fighting for and upholding the role of women, the phenomenon of disputes and interactions between women themselves is increasingly striking and so prevalent on social media and the reality of life in modern Indonesia. This unbalanced relationship then has an impact as happened in Gender-Based Violence (KBG). No doubt, this action is the same as reinforcing injustice to women. Therefore, this study aims to determine the forms of injustice perpetrated by the same sex, especially women against women based on the five social experiences of women and KBG. This study uses descriptive-qualitative methods and data collection techniques through questionnaires and literature study. Data obtained from the results of questionnaires filled out by 54 respondents taken by purposive sampling technique. While the data analysis techniques in this study are data collection, data reduction, data presentation and verification. The results of the study indicate that violence against women has the potential to be carried out by fellow women. In addition, the forms of violence that are often experienced by women from female KBG perpetrators are psychological violence, in the form of: body shaming, talkative in the form of belittling and demeaning in terms of education, work, and married life. Meanwhile, in terms of five social experiences, women are more likely to receive stigmatization, subordination and marginalization.

Abstract

Awareness of climate change, pollution, and environmental degradation has increased in recent decades, triggering global movements to protect ecosystems and ensure the sustainability of natural resources. This article examines the philosophical views of Ibn Arabī and Spinoza on the relationship between God and the universe and their implications for environmental awareness. In Ibn ‘Arabī point of view nature as a manifestation of God, thus preserving nature is an act of worship and respect towards God. In Baruch Spinoza point of view nature is an expression of the eternal God, providing a strong ethical foundation for environmental preservation. In Indonesia, an integrating traditional cultural and spiritual values with modern approaches can create holistic strategies for protecting the environment and supporting sustainable development. This article aims to enhance environmental awareness by combining scientific, moral, and spiritual perspectives, and inspiring sustainable actions in safeguarding nature as part of humanity’s moral and spiritual responsibility.
