This article examines the phenomenon that occurs in the last two decades in the community in various parts of the world stricken by the fever of spirituality. The various forms of spirituality emerge. This phenomenon is so widely in the West that gave birth to the slogan “Spirituality, yes, Organized religion, no.” One of the movements of this spirituality is New Age, which is a combination of various teachings and practices. The uniqueness of this movement makes the scholars acknowledged that the New Age is difficult to describe. Abstract

In this modern era, both in the West and East, it seems less tied to the religion and increasingly rely on the ratio as the key to solving life’s problem, Lately, the New Age Movement emerged as a critical reaction against the rational modernity. This movement believes that there is a fundamental change to the dominance of reason and science over God (read: faith). This movement is seeking a new balance between reason and faith are concentrated toward the inner roads of the divine source of life. Ironically, the diversity of emerging forms of spirituality in this world does not give positive effect toa number of politicians (representatives) in our country who would later carve it with a black smudge their actions contrary to ethics. This paper was trying to offer ideas about the need for political spirituality and political piety five roads to meet the spiritual needs of the community group.

Abstract

This study deals with Indonesian Muslim scholars’ discussions on the method of thematic interpretation of the Qur’an during the period of 20 years, from the mid-1980s to the mid-2000s. It shows that, in Indonesian discourses on thematic method of Qur’an interpretation, three issues are recurrently dealt with: what kind of themes is most desirable, what principles should be underlined, and in what way the method of thematic interpretation should be applied. While some scholars argue that it would be better if the theme selected is closely related to the real problems facing the society like poverty and backwardness, some others do not privilege a certain kind of theme over the others. Regardless of the theme or the term to be discussed, however, two principles are commonly and recurrently highlighted with regard to the application of thematic method. The first is the importance of treating the Qur’an is on its own terms as a unity. The second is the importance of paying close attention to the chronology of the Qur’an revelation. As for the issue of how the method of thematic interpretation should be applied, this study shows that there are free important models of thematic interpretation introduced in Indonesia: the one that was popularized by Quraish Shihab, the one that is introduced by Dawam Rahardjo, and the one that was named thematic-chronological method by Taufik Adan Amal and Syamsu Rizal Panggabean while discussing a contextual approach to the Qur’an.

Abstract

What is the use of philosophy, especially in the present era? This article seeks to convince that philosophy is highly beneficial for human life. Philosophy does not merely speculate about abstract matters, as many people perceive, but since the time of Socrates, it has developed to be grounded and practical. Socrates brought philosophy into the public sphere, not confined to seminar rooms. From here, philosophical discussions emerged that touched various aspects of human life. Since then, philosophy has delved into radical and profound discussions on a wide range of topics, including democracy and religion.

Abstract

Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is known as the most successful prophet in fulfilling his mission. He was appointed as a messenger at the age of 40, a mature age. This indicates that such a title and status were not achieved without struggle, but after he matured and was tempered by many experiences. This article attempts to address questions about the success of Prophet Muhammad's leadership, asking whether all of the Prophet's successes were due to God's intervention. If God is involved, what makes Muhammad special? Doesn't that mean Muhammad did not undergo a process like an ordinary human? If he is “not an ordinary human,” then how can we emulate and consider him as a role model in leadership?

Politics is the avenue through which HT pursues its mission, and its ideology is Islam. HT's struggle is aimed at making Islam its primary concern, guiding towards the reestablishment of the caliphate system, and upholding the laws descended by Allah in the reality of life. Through various political activities, HT intends to revive the Muslim community from decline, free Muslims from ideas, legal systems, and laws that are considered disbelieving, and seeks to break free from the domination of Western infidel states. HT aims to rebuild the Islamic Caliphate on Earth. What about Hizbut Tahrir Indonesia (HTI)? This writing presents the profile of HTI, from its origins, thoughts, to its political movements, especially in the post-reform era in Indonesia.

Abstract

Unlike the pattern of Islamic society in Java, which has long been the focus of study, the pattern of Islam in Sunda seems to receive less serious attention. Writing motivated by this reason, among others, found that the Sundanese community in general can be divided into two parts: Priangan and Pakulonan. In terms of Islam, they can be divided into three parts, as Geertz categorizes Javanese society: Santri, Abangan, and Priayi. The Santri segment of Sundanese society is divided into two parts: traditional Muslims and Orthodox or modernist. Generally, syncretism is one of the characteristics of the majority of Sundanese Islam. Even in Sundanese society, there are pre-Islamic religions that have survived to this day, although some are influenced by Islam in certain aspects, such as "Javanese Sunda Religion" and "Sunda Wiwitan" Religion. In addition, Sundanese society also serves as the base for Shia Islam, the basis for modern Islamic thought and movements such as Salman Mosque, and one of the bases for Islamic fundamentalism.
