Abstract

Highway is one of the facilities that is built to ease the transferring goods from one point to the destination. In the Law of the Republic of Indonesia No. 38 Year 2004 about road infrastructure, it is mentioned that the road has an important role in actualizing the development of nation’s life. Road repair by assessing the level of damage so that the researchers conducted this study on the Aki Balak street, Tarakan City with a road length observed along 250 meters. Types of road damage that occurred on the Aki Balak street consists of pothole, alligator cracking, long cracking, edge cracking, bledding, patching and corrugation. The results of the analysis using fuzzy logic applications in road maintenance as decision-making. An optimal decision making system in determining road maintenance from the damage and the causes of that damage occurred has been created. By using MATLAB student version, obtained extensive damage amounted 17.8 m2 with 9.99% condition assessment. Thus the results of routine maintenance at 2.5 with an appropriate alternative maintenance is repairing with flexible pavement, by providing an additional layer (overlay).

Abstract

The action taken by Surabaya city government in dealing with street vendors was by relocating street vendors to areas named Sentra Kuliner (culinary center). Those culinary centers were built to particularly provide space for street vendors who sell food. However, in reality, some culinary centers were not visited by many customers. One of which was Sentra Kuliner Gunung Anyar. Concerned by that issue, the researchers aimed to develop those uncrowded culinary centers by creating some alternative designs that would improve the existing design so that those culinary centers could attract more customers and please the relocated street vendors. This study used Research and Development (R&D) method. The result showed respondents’ preference to alternative design that look more conspicuous than other buildings around and have more attractive appearance than that of the original design. Adding supportive amenities to the alternative design will also increase public attention as well.

Abstract

The semisubmersible offshore dynamics depend on the condition of the ocean environments. Disruption of forces and moments in the floating structure caused by environment factors, there are wind, waves and ocean currents. This disturbances will cause decreased stability of the structure. This situation will disrupt the process of oil and gas exploration. Currently exploration activities is success if the structure in the static condition and remain on. This condition needs a force or torque to counter the disruption caused by the environment. This paper proposes a control system and analyze the performance of response stability of dynamic positioning system (DPS). DPS will control in 3 Degree of Freedom (DOF) variables, there are: sway, roll and yaw. The structure of the DPS consists of controllers, sensors, actuators. Actuators are Thruster System and Power System. The strategic to maintain in DPS is Linear Quadratic (LQG) control. This method is one of optimal control which capable rejected wave interference. Some values control parameters, that are Q and R in the cost function, show the robustness of DPS.

Abstract

Emission of CO2 in Indonesia is high relatively and have reached 1,55-ton carbon (5,67 ton CO2 – eq) per capita. It is predicted to increase up to 3,22-ton carbon per capita in 2050 as increasing of population growth. Indonesian Government has issued the policy for decreasing greenhouse gasses effect below 26% in 2020. It proposed to all of society not only public and private institutions, but also education institution like campus. This study is aimed to identify the factors which can influence greenhouse gasses effect, including carbon emission in transportation, waste management and electrical consumption in Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS). It is projected to support implementation of ITS eco campus program more effectively. Therefore, this study has formulated local planning and policy which can be implemented by campus community to decrease carbon emission and organize ITS as real eco-campus.

Abstract

We present a preliminary result on the singlemode-multimode-singlemode (SMS) fiber structure for a vibration sensor. The SMS fiber structure was placed in a macrobender within the mechanical transducer to detect the frequency of a vibration source. The time series of optical output power of the SMS fiber structure was measured and it was transformed into the frequency domain using the fast Fourier transform. It was demonstrated that the frequency of vibration source can be determined by using the mechanical transducer with the SMS fiber structure. It was also analyzed the distance effect between the source and the SMS fiber structure. It was shown that the frequency measurement of 20 Hz vibration source can be carried out in a range of 0 to 30 cm with an error frequency 0.1 Hz. This scheme is potential for the vibration measurement which offers inexpensive and simple configuration.

Abstract

Glass used in building facade presents an aesthetic feature as well as contributes to the structural stiffness of the whole structural system of the building. In this research, the contribution of glass on the stiffness of the cable-net supported glass facade systems was investigated via experiments. Two generic configurations of cable-net system were considered, namely flat and curved cable-net system, both with and without glass panes. Each system was subjected to static load. The results indicated that the introduction of certain level of curvature to the cable net structure has increased the stiffness of the cable net structure by 11.5%. The glass panes made significant contributions to the stiffness of the whole structural system. The glass stiffness contribution for flat cable-net system was high at the early stage of loading (approximately 40%) but reduced when the load was increased. However, the glass stiffness contribution for curved cable-net increased gradually as the load was increased. For both configurations, the glass stiffness contribution remained steady at about 18% of the whole structural stiffness as the cables in the cable-net stiffened up to the maximum load.. Based on the static tests carried out, the pre-stress force in the cables in the cable-net systems can possibly be reduced should the glass be considered in the analysis design of cable-net structure. Moreover, the curved cable-net could be designed to have lower pre-stress force in cables compared to that of flat cable-net to meet the deflection criterion of the cable-net structure.

Abstract

Diesel Dual fuel system is a diesel operated by using dual fuel CNG and diesel fuel as a pilot fuel. The problem that often occurs in dual fuel system is the reduced ratio of air and fuel. This causes the thermal efficiency to be lower. So in this study mounted electric supercharger as an air supply for performance and efficiency, and emissions from diesel engines better. This research uses diesel engine type Diamond Di 800 with dual fuel indirect injection model system. The method used is to vary the air mass flow rate (ṁ) through intake manifold to the combustion chamber 0.0063 kg/s, 0.0072 kg/s, 0.0077 kg/s, 0.0087 kg/s, and 0.0095 kg/s by adjusting the voltage on electric supercharger 8V, 9V, 10V, 11V, and 12V. Measurements are made to: the current and the voltage of each load, the consumption time of 25 ml diesel fuel, and the exhaust emissions (CO, HC, and PM). The best result was found that the addition of air mass flow rate (ṁ) to dual fuel system had no significant effect on the engine's effective power, torque, Bmep when compared with single fuel. The addition of air mass flow rate (ṁ) 0.0087 kg/s can substitution the diesel fuel by 56.45%, thermal efficiency increased by 33.57% but under single fuel condition, and increase the average AFR by 64.31%. The average CO and HC emissions decreased by 15.18% and 62.35% even though they were under single fuel condition, while the PM emissions increase with increasing loads but compared to single fuel decreased by 75%
