Abstract

To construct a place, one may consider creating a shelter, or a ground plane that would accommodate people’s activities. Located in suburban part of the city of Surabaya, area of Tambaksari with its dense population is lacking for such a place. There are two fundamental requirements to raise the quality of living in the area. Provide a sheltered space for communal and a confined space for the youth playground and recreational activities are the two requirements. Two activities that was scattered at the beginning. For such, we proposed a single slab of concrete to accommodate both requirements. Which the slab will serve as a roof for the street vendors as a trigger for people to gather on the ground floor, and its also serve as a ground plane for playground on the upper floor. Connected with a continuous ramp and large voids, both activities on different floor will be interrelated both visually and physically. An important note in this project is to present the centralization of street vendors, which is naturally reluctant to be centralized, its unique qualities such as the randomness, the complexity, less-perceived boundary onto the site leads to irregular concrete slab shape decision to accommodate such uniqueness. Irregular shape ultimately becomes a problem for conventional structural grid. Parameterized random position of column then applied to the area of the floor. Furthermore triangular grid are introduced to connect the column as structural beam. The result is uncommon form both aesthetically and structurally piece of architecture.

Abstract

Sustainable development in self-compacting concrete (SCC) has been studied extensively for the recent years for the purpose to address its growing demand in construction projects. Sustainable SCC can be defined as concrete mix with partially replaced cement content that varies from low to high level using different mineral admixtures. Silica fume and fly ash which is considered as the most common sustainable mineral admixtures for binary and ternary cementitious blends show good effect to the compressive strength and chloride penetration resistivity of hardened SCC. In this paper, this effect was further investigated by using two widely used biological inspired computing models namely the artificial neural network (ANN) and genetic algorithm (GA). The test results of compressive strength and chloride ion penetration resistance from thirty-six concrete samples with varying replacement level of binary and ternary cementitious blends were utilized as inputs for model development. ANN was used to obtain models that describe analytically the relationship of material components to the compressive strength and chloride penetration resistivity. The derived models were further explored through optimization using GA. Results shows that ANN was able to establish the relationship of strength-durability parameters to the material components while GA is able to derived optimal mix proportion for best strength-durability performance. The present study also validates the sensitivity of the replacement level of silica fume and fly ash as a ternary cementitious blend to the strength-durability performance of SCC. This indicates that high volume content of ternary blended cement can improve chloride penetration resistivity and exhibited high compressive strength.

Abstract

A superblock area has a high complexity, both in the development process and later when it is operational, so it required the right design at the beginning. At project Ciputra World phase 3, especially on the electrical system (PLN combination with generator), required the selection of appropriate design. In determining the design which will be used there are several considerations, so the decision will be made is an alternative that has the highest value. The considerations in determining the design of this project are the Initial cost, Maintenance Cost, Energy Cost. Based on the background  above, the methodology to be used in determining the selection of the best design for the electrical system in Ciputra World phase 3 is a Life Cycle Cost Analysis, where the costs of each alternative will be compared. The results of research show Cost of alternative 1 about IDR 570 billion (1 PLN – Diesel Engine), Alternative 2 about IDR 555 billion (1 PLN – Diesel Engine – Gas Engine) and Alternative 3 about IDR 580 billions (2 PLN -  Gas Engine). The best alternative design based on LCC is alternative 2 (1 PLN – Diesel Engine - Gas Engine)

Abstract

Glycerol acetylation with acetic acid using magnesium fluoride catalyst have been investigated. Magnesium fluoride catalyst was prepared by sol-gel method with ethanol as gelating agent. The glycerol acetylation produced monoacetylglyceride (MAG), diacetylglyceride (DAG) and triacetylglyceride (TAG). The catalytic reaction carried out by thermal methods reflux under ambient conditions. The influence of reaction conditions such as the reaction time on the product distribution was investigated. The optimum of glycerol conversion was achieved at 5 hours of reaction time by 78.34% with selectivity of 30, 62 and 8% for MAG, DAG and TAG respectively. The reaction route over magnesium fluorides was observed by product as reactants, gradually. The results showed that the acetylation reaction of glycerol occurs via a parallel route to the first, followed by the consecutive route to produce DAG and TAG.

Abstract

Due to numerous tectonic activities in the Philippines, many old heritage and culturally important structures are in risk of sustaining damage. Unlike their modern counterparts, these structures are mostly made of adobe, clay, lime stones, bricks, blocks, rocks, and the like. These materials are mostly inhomogeneous and contain cracks of variable sizes, especially those with age, as are those used in Philippine structures. Since most of these structures are of cultural significance to the country, their preservation must be given importance. Their preservation would start in an evaluation of the structure in a way that would not damage the structure. As a method of evaluation of these structures, this research aimed to develop a correlation between mechanical properties of materials such as Young's modulus of elasticity and uniaxial compressive strength which are usually determined using destructive tests, and nondestructive parameters, such as ultrasonic pulse velocity and wave attenuation. This method would allow future evaluation of masonry structures in a nondestructive way which would in turn, preserve their historical and cultural worth. Ultrasonic testing was conducted to determine different wave characteristics of different masonry materials commonly used in old Philippine structures. These characteristics were then correlated with material properties obtained from destructive tests of the samples. The correlations obtained between the destructive and non-destructive parameters gave high values of coefficient of determination, resulting in a viable basis for modeling.

Abstract

In 2017, there were 84 employees had voluntarily quit in ABC bank indicating 1.90% turnover ratio. This number was the highest record for the last 4 years, and almost reaching the maximum allowed limit (2.00%). This turnover resulted financial loss for the company, therefore the number must be reduced. Some research in the past found low engagement level allowed an employee to have an intention to quit.  This research purpose was to reveal the most dominant factor affecting the employee engagement. The object of this research was the staff-level permanent employee of ABC bank, situated in central office Surabaya. Employee engagement construct was formed from job and organization engagement factors, with seven antecedent factors (job characteristic, perceived organizational support, perceived supervisor support, coworker relations, rewards and recognition, organizational justice and self-consciousness), and the intention to quit as the consequence factor. From 266 participants found 37.22% were disengaged, and 72.73% of them had an intention to quit. The model analysis implied that perceived supervisor support had a highest influence on engagement, and consequently effecting the intention to quit. This research concluded that supervisor role improvement is required to support human resource strategy to achieve the competitive advantage

Abstract

Tangerang city is a region which has a relatively flat and inclined contour-shaped basin so that in some areas when the rains come will experience flooding. The cause of the flooding is necessary to identify the field. From the results obtained that the identification of flood discharge for the region amounted to 29.91 m³ / s with 1.65 km².Dari watershed area of this discharge can only be accommodated by the existing drainage network is only 5 m³ / sec so that the excess is what makes this region flood. For excess of 24.91 m³ / s is done by creating a polder or ponds so that these advantages can be accommodated. Polder or ponds that can accommodate this excess area of 6.3 hectares with a depth of 4 meters. In addition to planning embung / Polder required also increase drainage infrastructure sehigga can flow smoothly.
