Abstract

Ganoderma lingzhi is the medicinal woody mushroom which have been known to have hundreds bioactive compounds. The lanostane-type triterpenoids with carboxyl group in the side chain or known as ganoderma acids were isolated from the fruiting body of G. lingzhi. Some of these compounds were established as active inhibitors of α- glucosidase and human recombinant aldose reductase in vitro. The research objective is to enlighten the role of structural requirement of ganoderma acids both for α-glucosidase and aldose reductase inhibition. Comparing the inhibitory activity of these two enzymes, the structure–activity studies of ganoderma acids showed that the hydroxyl substituent at C-11 and the carboxylic group in the side chain are an important feature both for the recognition of α-glucosidase and human recombinant aldose reductase inhibitory activity. Furthermore, the double- bond moiety at C-20 and C-22 in the side chain and the hydroxyl substituent at C-3 of ganoderma acids enlarge the inhibitory activity of both enzymes. These outcomes offer an approach which to regard as the structural requirements of lanostane type triterpenoids acids from G. lingzhi. A consideration of these requirements is essential in order to develop a new type for substances that can be improved to prevent the diabetic complications

Abstract

Abstract

A capacitor bank is not only used to improve the power factor, but also can be used to reduce losses in the power system network, such as its placement on the primary feeder. The position of the capacitor bank will be affected by the compensation factor and the sharpness of increase loads linearly in a primary feeder. This paper is aimed to determine an optimal location of the capacitor bank in the primary feeder which their loads increasing linearly in order to get maximum loss saving. Mathematical model to determine the optimal location of the capacitor bank has been clearly derived in this paper. Simulation results show that the maximum loss reduction occurs in compensation between 50% and 100%, with get loss saving about 52%. In these conditions, optimal locations lay between 75% and 100%. These results were influenced by the sharpness of the increase loads and the compensation factor. For loads increasing sharply, the position of the capacitor banks will be further away from the substation; whereas for greater compensation factor, the position of the capacitor bank will be getting closer to the substation.

Abstract

¾ In recent years, human casualties and economic losses caused by natural disasters in Malaysia have been increasing, with infrastructure development is becoming concentrated in disaster-prone areas. Urbanized coastal cities are also growing in number and size with high-rise buildings widely built along the shorelines. Every community is at risk from natural hazards, which creates an urgent need for public policies and strategic plans to manage the inevitable risks. Thus, this study aims to explore the technical and non-technical factors of disaster risks pertaining infrastructure development for sustainability along the coastal areas of Malaysia. It is also intended to find the common aspects of these technical and non-technical factors that can be built as an integral part of disaster risk management. Specifically, this study presents evidence using a quantitative analysis for classifying and ranking technical and non-technical factors of disaster risks from an open-ended feedback on a given hypothetical case study pertaining infrastructure development along coastal areas. The results reflect that the technical factors of disaster risks include engineering measures and construction of hazard-resistant and protective infrastructures, while the non-technical-factors include policies, awareness and the provision of information. Determining the risk factors that enable communities and policy makers make well-informed decisions for long-term sustainable development represents national and local priorities with a strong institutional basis for implementation.

Abstract

Anorganic fertilizer applicatio in high concentration causes damaging in agriculture field. An alternative way to protect the soil, is using organic fertilizer (compost). Sludge milk waste as souce of composting can be used, but it has high lipid content and causes hardening on composting process. Using combination microbes such as Rhizopus oligosporous (R. oligosporous) and Aspergillus niger (A. niger) in pretreatment of sludge milk waste can cause reducing of lipid content. Objective of this research is to know the influence of Rhizopus oligosporous (R. oligosporous) as anaerobic fermentation microorganism and Aspergillus niger (A.niger) as aerobic fermentation microorganism of sludge milk waste pre-treatment for further composting process, and to compare composting products against technical requirement organic compost used. The research method used is the anaerobic fermentation with addition of Rhizopus oligosporous and aerobic fermentation with Aspergillus niger. Process variables were 100 ml R. oligosporous and A. niger /3 kg sludge waste (3,33% v/w), 200 ml R.oligosporous and A. niger /3 kg sludge waste (6,67%v/w), and 300 ml R.oligosporous and A. niger /3 kg sludge waste (10%v/w) during incubation period of 72 and 96 hours. Process was continued through composted the pretreatment sludge by adding the biofertilizer and bone powder. After composting of pretreatment waste then Carbon, kalium, lipid, nitrogen, phosphate and water content were analyzed. Temperature and pH were also monitored. Results of this research shows that R. oligosporous and A. niger can reduce lipid content of sludge milk waste. The best variable is A. niger 6,67 % v/w with incubation period of  96 hours and can be proved with the lipid content of 10,44 %  and reducing of lipid content per cell of microorganism as 0,00036 ppm. Composting process has enhanced 1,57 % N, 5,16 % P and 1,2% K. This compost were in accordance with the technical requirements of organic fertilizer in Indonesia.

Abstract

Metro Manila is a metropolis comprised of 15 cities and 1 municipality with a population of over 13 million people. It is already considered as a megalopolis together with adjoining provinces to the north, east and south. Despite it being highly urbanized, the city is dependent of road-based transport, with about 80% of commuters taking public transportation but with 70% of road space taken up by cars. Metro Manila currently has only 4 railways lines – Line 1 along Taft Avenue, Rizal Avenue and EDSA, Line 2 along Aurora Boulevard and Marcos Highway, Line 3 along EDSA, and the commuter line of the old Philippine National Railways. If plans formulated since the 1970s were realized, then commuting would have been very different in Metro Manila, where majority of commuters could have been using rail-based transport. This study examines the counterfactual scenarios of mass transit development in the context of co-benefits for Metro Manila over the past four decades, focusing on rail transport. The outcomes of simulated scenarios are used as inputs towards the quantification of transport co-benefits. These co-benefits include improved air quality, more efficient fuel consumption, safer roads, and reduced travel time. The evaluation procedure was based from the Transport Co-benefits Guidelines developed by the Institute of Global Environmental Strategies. The assessment of transport and traffic conditions as related to rail-based mass transit development showed a very significant potential for alleviating transport and traffic congestion in Metro Manila, thereby improving the quality of life for people.

Abstract

IT investment decisions made by the company have uncertain value characteristics; have a high risk than other capital investment failures and intangible benefits of expected. In this situation, effective decision making is an important (perhaps most important) part of managerial activity. In this article, we analyze the influence of decision making under uncertainty, company size, and environmental hostility to intuition and analyze the intuition of company performance. There are five companies as study sample (ie: university, hospital, regional owned enterprises, creative industry, and software house industry) in East Java, Indonesia. The method used was a survey. The respondents were Top Level Management that is responsible for IT investment decision. Data analysis techniques used was Structural Equation Modeling-Generalize Structure Component Analysis (SEM-GSCA). Although intuition process is critical for effective IT investment decision making, we found that: (1) decision making under uncertainty and environmental hostility did not affect on intuition; (2) company size has a positive effect on intuition, and (3) intuition has a positive effect on company performance
