Abstract

In power system, there are some disturbances such as, voltage dip, momentary interruption, voltage swell, or oscillatory transients that may result in mal-function or failure in operation of some devices. Knowing the location where the disturbances occur in the system is an essential part in selecting the appropriate method on improving power quality issues in order to get effective and efficient results. One of methods in locating power quality disturbances is using Mathematical Morphology (MM). In this paper, signals with disturbances were filtered using morphology gradient. Top-hat transform is applied for the filtered signal using flat structuring element. The simulation results show that the location of disturbances can be detected accurately. Skeletonization is used to identify the location time of the noises in the system. By plotting the results in 3D, it makes easier to identify the location of disturbances with or without noises from their different color and shape as pattern recognition.

Abstract

The need for an efficient electric drive system which has high torque and speed, low maintenance costs is getting increased. However, the motors which are commonly used, such as induction motors and DC motors, have not been able to meet the need. Therefore, a new model with efficiency System and energy consumption using simulated software "MATLAB ® or Simulink®" is made. This model includes battery, power electronics converters, electric motors, and transmission systems. In this case the energy system during regenerative braking breaking is also taken into account. The result of the efficiency value of the batteries, inverter, electric motor and the total efficiency value of the overall system is gathered from the control Brushless Motor (BLDC) models HHDB 350-1000 Watt and some batteries type  SOC with capacity 34-48 Ah used.

Abstract

PT X is a company engaged in construction field and heavy machinery services. PT X uses excavators as a tool to mine rock sand. In 2018, the company has planned to increase production capacity. The increase of production capacity will be directly related to the operational capability of the unit which must always be maintained. The problem in this study is the occurrence of unit downtime that cannot be predicted and occurs in a relatively long time. The components damage of the excavator causes the unit to be unable to operate to increase production. The maintenance of the Doosan S500-LCV excavator at PT X is currently not optimal because the downtime that occurs in the unit is still relatively high. Standard maintenance procedure of excavator units need to be evaluated in order to minimize the occurrence of downtime so that the unit can be used for maximum production. The method used in this analysis is the Reliability Centered Maintenance (RCM) method with evaluating maintenance carried out and giving the right maintenance suggestion. From the results of the analysis and discussion, the critical components of the S500-LCV excavator in PT X are Bucket, Control Valve, Radiator, Alternator and Hydraulic Breaker. Proposed maintenance based on the RCM method and the consideration of S500-LCV maintenance costs at PT X are bucket with preventive maintenance, control valve with a combination of preventive and corrective maintenance, radiator with preventive maintenance, alternator with a combination of preventive and corrective maintenance and hydraulic breakers with preventive maintenance

Abstract

Heavy metal pollution is one of environmental problems, which is caused by the discharge of improperly treated industrial wastewater. Electroplating industry generates wastewater containing heavy metals, which include chromium, copper and cadmium. Biological treatment using bacteria has been considered as a new alternative for treatment of heavy metal containing wastewater. The bacteria play an important role in the bioremediation of heavy metal contaminated environment. Bacillus cereus was known as cosmopolitan bacteria with high resistance to pollutants. This study was conducted to measure the viability of two strains of Bacillus cereus in chromium, copper and zinc containing cultures, and the bioremoval efficiencies of the heavy metals.. The bioremoval efficiencies were measured using spectrophotometric method. The bacterial viability was measured according to the Optical Density of the culture. The results showed that both B. cereus strains were viable in culture containing chromium, copper, and cadmium with different concentrations. The highest tolerance of the bacteria was observed in chromium containing culture, where highest chromium bioremoval efficiency of 51.8% was performed by ATCC 9632 strain at chromium concentration of 102.4 mg/L, in varied concentration range up to 360 mg/L. Whereas the highest copper bioremoval efficiency of 100% was achieved in the cultures of B. cereus ATCC 1178 and ATCC 9632 at copper concentration of 2 mg/L in tested concentration range up to 10 mg/L. The highest cadmium bioremoval efficiency of 77% was achieved by ATCC 9632 strain at concentration of 15 mg/L in concentration range up to 25 mg/L

Abstract

Lamongan District has considerable potential in the agricultural sector. However, the agricultural sector has not been able to generate added value in the regional development of Lamongan Regency. The high GDP of agriculture sector is not matched with the high GDP of industrial sector. This proves that the results of the agricultural sector has not been used optimally by the industrial sector. To increase the value added of industrial sectors, it would require agro-industrial development based on predominant crops in Lamongan District. The potential area based on agricultural situation and the current status of agro-industrial development is required to provide the strategy of agro-industrial development.  The study of current situation of agriculture sector was conducted with three analysis namely agriculture efficiency analysis, location quotient analysis, and shift share analysis. Whereas, the study of current status of agro-industrial development was conducted with descriptive analysis. Furthermore, identification of potential areas was based on the classification of the area using the quartile method which distinguishes the area (sub-district) into four classes namely very low potential, low potential, medium potential and high potential. After identifying the level of agricultural potential, the current level of agro-industrial development was studied based on selected indicators. Following two sets of analyses, the potential sub-districts have been identified for intensification of agro-industrial development relating to predominant crops. In the study, few sub-districts such as Brondong, Deket and Glagah have high potential for agro-industrial development.

Abstract

A load sensor based on singlemode-multimode-singlemode (SMS) fiber structure is presented in this paper. An SMS fiber structure with core diameter of 50 µm and length of 30 cm of the multimode fiber (MMF) section was chosen as a sensor. The measurement principle of the sensor is based on change of SMS fiber structure power response due to the applied load. A fiber bending and load transmitting (FBLT) device is designed to appropiately bend the SMS fiber structure under applied load in order to make the SMS fiber structure work as a load sensor. The applied load can bend the SMS fiber structure and hence affect the multimode interference (MMI) pattern that occured in SMS fiber structure. The number of bends that occured on SMS fiber structure is determined by the pin number of FBLT device. Five variations of pin number at 3, 5, 7, 9 and 11 pins were chosen. The applied load was varied at 0 – 100 kg. From the experiments, it is found that the relative outpout power response of the sensor gave a specific MMI pattern for each pin number variation. The configuration of 3 pins on FBLT device has the best response as a load sensor with the sensitivity at 1.32 μW/kg and R2 at 0.9783 with the longest measurement range from 1.82 – 91.32 kg.

Abstract

The specification of controller setting for a standard controller typically requires a trade-off between set point tracking and disturbance rejection. For this reason two simple strategies can be used to adjust the set point and disturbance responses independently. These strategies are referred to as controllers with two degree of freedom. Unfortunately, the tuning parameters in the case of model uncertainty at two degree of freedom structure controller is difficult to obtain. Juwari et al (2013) has introduced maximum peak-gain margin (Mp-GM) tuning method to obtain setting parameter of two degree of freedom structure controller based on model uncertainty. This tuning method are able to obtain the good controller parameter even under processes uncertainties on standard two degree of freedom (was abbreviated as 2DOF) IMC. This research will be conducted on development maximum peak-gain margin tuning method for a two degree of freedom PID filter set point structure controller. The simulation results show that the maximum peak gain margin tuning method can give a good target set point tracking, disturbance rejection and robustness in system a 2DOF-PID filter set point controller.

Abstract

Multiyear construction project is one of the riskiest project due to uncertainty and dynamic economic condition. In multi-years project, cost escalation is inevitable because during construction period various risk factors such as increasing of labor cost, materials cost, energy cost, and equipment cost will affect the costs of the projects. This paper proposes a model to estimate cost escalation based on System Dynamic (SD) approach. SD is used to represent correlation among risk factors influencing cost escalation and to calculate cost escalation during project period. Causal Loop Diagram (CLD) was made based on in-depth literature review and confirmed by the experts. To validate the model, 7 multi-years projects in Indonesia were used as case study. The result showed that the proposed model can accurately predict project cost escalation with an accuracy of 91.21%. Simulation of SD also showed that the change of scope of work, ambiguous contract condition, unpredictable conditions, project schedule delay, inflation, and extreme weather condition are the most influencing factor of cost escalation. Besides predicting cost escalation of project, this model can also be used as early warning system in multi-year projects environment.
