Abstract

Assessment the role of sediment in the Sumber Brantas River watershed has been conducted in Sumber Brantas, Bumiaji, Batu. The area has been affected by agroforestry activities. The assessment was focused to the availability of nutrients (phosphorous and nitrogen compounds) and metals in sediment and water column. Water and sediment samples were collected from outlet Sumber Brantas watershed in Arboretrum, Sumber Brantas, Bumiaji, Batu, Malang in July 2013. Assessment of physical and chemical water properties included pH, conductivity, temperature, TDS, DO, COD, total P and reactive P, nitrate and ammonia, dissolved metals (Al, Fe, Mn, Ca, Mg). Meanwhile, the assessment of physical and chemical properties of sediment included texture, porosity, density, pH, redox potensial, DO, organic matter, N and P sediment solution, total metals, and exchangeable metals. Results showed that water body of Sumber Brantas watershed was oxic. The level of nitrate in wPater bodies was higher than ammonia level due to nitrification process while the level of FRP was low. Most of P in the water bodies were adsorbed onto oxide/hydroxide metals and bound to metals. The sediment was at anoxic condition. The immediately pool of P was lower than the potential P pools. The level order of sedimentary inorganic P in the sediment was residual-P > HCl-P > BD-P > NaOH-P> NH4Cl-P. Although the level of DO in sediment was low so that the denitrification was occurred but the P could not easily released from the FeOOH surface. The complex of FeOOH-P in sediment was stable to be dissociated so P was not released into water bodies even under anoxic condition. Therefore, the role of sediment of the Sumber Brantas River watershed was as a for P compounds while nitrate in the sediment was subjected to change and equilibrate with ammonia.

Abstract

Three dimension (3D) face model based on anthropometric data is used as facial plastic surgery simulation, which can be used for setting up a pre-surgery communication between a surgeon and his patient. All this time, Indonesian plastic surgeons have made preoperative and intraoperative evaluation based on the patient’s aesthetic sense or desire, and the surgeon’s operative technique preferences referring to subjective visual “landmark” and Caucasian parameters instead of referring to parameters of the normal Indonesian face which have not yet been established until now. The research objective is creating 3D digital modeling of the Indonesian facial type, which will provide useful reference points speedily, accurately and efficiently, in facial aesthetic and reconstructive plastic surgery and other interdisciplinary fields. The Methods is an applied study using anthropometric data as basis for formulation of 3D digital modeling of Indonesian facial type, performed 17-25 years old students without history of facial reconstruction and orthodontics. The first step was to distribute questioners to obtain criteria of normal and attractive female faces. Lateral cephalometric, photometric; direct anthropometric and photography were performed. Then the analysis results were applied to 3D modeling programs to make the Indonesian facial type digital geometry overview. Furthermore, the image was interpreted by an expert before concluding the end result. The results are description of distinguishing parameters between normal and attractive groups by discriminant test included nasal bridge index, binocular width, nasal tip protrusion, mouth width index. According to cephalometry and photometry results, the Indonesian face was more convex than the Caucasian face. Anthropometric, photometric and lateral cephalometric measurements played a significant role in differentiating the Indonesian face between normal and attractive also from faces of other races. 3D digital woman models can serve as instruments for characterizing normal and attractive faces visually.

Abstract

Abstract- Development of hybrid technology for vehicle transportation has been extensively carried out worldwide. At present, the technology has been used in automobile industry in a way to reduce the use of fossil fuels and the effect of toxic gases into the atmosphere. In more details, the hybrid technology applies two sources of energy, namely conventional engine together with the consumption of fossil fuels and solar cell panels in conjunction with the use of battery to store the energy gain. The application of hybrid technology for sea transportation has shown a promising development in the last 5 years. The combination use of sail and engine, which is popularly known as sail assisted engine, has been used to power mono hull fishing vessels by Indonesian fishermen. The attractiveness and successful application of catamaran form for passenger vessels has inspired naval architect to use it as fishing vessels due to its advantages such as having better transverse stability and providing wider deck-space area. The current work describes the development of hybrid technology for a catamaran fishing vessel using the combination of conventional diesel engine, the use of sail and solar-cell panels. In details, it explains the utilization of individual power-source and combination of them to power the catamaran. Discussions include the effectiveness of the combination such as its effect to ship stability and general arrangement of the fishing vessel. Finally, it is discovered that the combination of diesel engine and solar-sails have reached the optimum benefit of the hybrid concept.

Abstract

CDMA technique has been successfully employed to implement high capacity mobile networks with optimum channel bandwidth utilization. The two most coveted criteria for the spreading codes used in such network are, the number of codes in the set and the code orthogonality, in order to ensure accommodation of large number of users and as well as minimal interference between the users. Walsh code has proved to be a popular orthogonal code, whereas m-sequence, Gold code and Kasami code have established themselves as popular non-orthogonal binary codes. Small set Orthogonal Kasami code has been proposed and evaluated by researchers for CDMA applications. In this paper the authors report the design of hybrid orthogonal large set (HOLS) code for synchronous CDMA systems. The HOLS code was evaluated in a synchronous CDMA system over different channel conditions. The authors also demonstrate that the BER performance of the HOLS code is comparable to that of the existing orthogonal codes, but outperforms Gold and large set Kasami code sequences. The HOLS code sequence is also shown to outperform the existing code sequences in the number of cells it can support. In terms of multiple access interference (MAI), the cross-correlation function (CCF) of the HOLS code sequence is comparable to that of Walsh and orthogonal small set Kasami codes, and much better than those of Gold and large set Kasami code sequences. HOLS code sequence has comparable auto-correlation function (ACF) with that of Gold, large set Kasami and orthogonal small set Kasami code sequences and a much better ACF than that of Walsh code sequence.

Abstract

Many steel truss rail bridges in Indonesia were built decades ago. To assure that bridge structure is in-service conditions, periodic monitoring is required, thus structural health of the bridge can be assessed and sudden collapse of the structure can be avoided. In health monitoring of structure, structural damage detection methods are frequently required so that damaged/weak element of the structure can be identified and technique for repairing it can be determined. In this paper, structural damage detection method of steel truss bridge is discussed. The method applied in this study used vibration characteristics of the structure for detecting structural damages occurred in the structure. The method was utilized to identify simulated damages occurred in a steel-truss railway bridge located in Porong East Java. The bridge has span of 30 meters and it was built during the era of Dutch colonization. The structure was modeled numerically utilizing CSI Bridge v15 computer software for facilitating in obtaining its dynamic characteristics. Results of this study showed that the method could identify precisely the existence of damage took place in the structure.

Abstract

In recent years, there are so many marine accidents in the world such as ship sinking (37%), grounding (13%), collisions (15%), fire (18%) and other types of accidents (17%). While the causes of the ship accident are 37% of human error, technical error of 23%, 38% due to natural conditions, and 2% to other causes. One of the causes is the weakness of the identification and monitoring the ships passing through the shipping channel in Indonesia. Automatic Identification System (AIS) on the previous research has been carried out with the integration of Geographic Information System (GIS) that allows measuring the use of AIS for fuels monitoring and the development of ship inspection priority system based on the level of risk held by each vessel. Those studies are expected to minimize the level of accidents that occurred in Indonesian waters. However, the result of previous studies showed that the identity of the ship is still conducted separately. It is thus necessary to perform data integration with databases AIS vessel into a database server. This research is focused on the development of the integration between AIS data and shipping database, therefore, It could be used as the backbone of integration system for measuring safety and pollution of the ships, such as basis for monitoring traffic analysis, estimates of air pollution, vessel inspections in real time and direct search vessel identity.

Abstract

The total energy consumption in this year increase significantly. Most of energy that used come from fossil fuel. The use of fossil fuel can cause a lot of pollution and the amount of them is decreased. Therefore, many countries developing renewable energy system. One of renewable energy system is wind power using Doubly Fed Induction Generator (DFIG). DFIG supplies AC current from the stator winding that are connected directly to the grid and rotor winding DFIG are also connected to the grid through power electronic converter. The type of this converter is back-to-back converter. In general, this converter used switching model. However, this model produce a slow simulation and high riplle. To solve this problem DFIG with average model in back-to-back converter is studied in this research. This design operated by controlling the rotor speed DFIG to produce maximum power and preserve the value of DC link voltage remains constant.
