Abstract

The management of soft tissue sarcoma of the extremities is very complicated, particularly if the tumor is large and has infiltrated into the deep structures. Forequarter amputation is still one best choice for either curative or palliative purposes, although this operation is very mutilated. This report is aimed at presenting the benefit of forequarter amputation in patients with soft tissue sarcomas in the humeri region. Two patients with extrasceletal myxoid chondrosarcoma and pleomorphic rhabdomyosarcoma in the humeri region were managed with forequarter amputation and neoadjuvant chemotherapy. The patients condition and quality of life were better after the amputation.Key Words : soft tissue sarcoma - forequarter amputation - neoadjuvant chemotherapy - extrasceletal myxoid chondrosarcoma - pleomorphic rhabdomyosarcoma

Abstract

Background: HPV infection has an important role in cell proliferation and apoptosis of malignant neoplasia through the binding of their E6 and E7 protein to the p53 and pRb. In cervical cancer the role of HPV infection in cells proliferation and apoptosis has not yet been defined up to now, since mutation of p53 gene and Rb gene in cervical cancer is very rare.Methodes: Thirty-eight block parafin cases of squamous cell carcinoma of the cervix were stained immunohistochemically with polyclonal antibody against HPV and monoclonal antibody against p53, Rb, Ki-67 and Tunnel. with chromogen DAB and counterstain Hematoxyllin Meyer. The expression of HPV, p53, pRb, Ki-67 and Tunnel were counted based on the number of positive cells/100 tumor cells in five microscopic fields. The correlation between HPV expression and p53, pRb, Ki-67, Tunnel expression respectively were analyzed with Pearson correlation analysis. Results: There was a significant correlation between HPV expression with either p53 expressionR: 0.491, P:0.002) and or Ki-67 expression (R:0.397, P:0.014), but there was no significant correlation between HPV expression with pRB expression (R:0.3000, P:0.067) and Tunnel expression ( R:O,888, P:0,599).Conclusion: This research showed that HPV infection had important role in cell proliferation but not in cell apoptosis of cervical cancer.Key words: HPV, proliferation, apoptosis, p53, pRb, Ki-67, Tunnel, cervical carcinoma

Abstract

Background : Cancer of the uterine cervix (cervical cancer) is one of the most common malignant neoplasm in women in developing countries and remains a major public health problem worldwide. Several studies have proved the role of HPV as an agent STD (sexually transmitted disease), in the pathogenesis of Cervical cancer, beside the other risk factors. Objective : The aim of this study was to know the frequence of HPV infection in Yogyakarta.Material and Methods : 44 samples of Cervical cancer biopsies were collected from Sardjito General Hospital, Bethesda Hospital and private doctors, and stored frozen. DNA isolated from the biopsies of cervical cancer was amplified by PCR using consensus primer (CP I and CP IIG) from El ORF (188 bp) of HPV.Result : HPV DNA was detected in 84.1 % of the samples. In CIN I, 20 % samples were infected with HPV, 100 % in Ca epidermoid, 66.4 % in adeno Ca and 0 % in Ca adenosquamosaConclusion : The frequency of HPV in cervical Ca biopsies of certain histopathological status in Yogyakarta by PCR method was proved to be very high.Key words : HPV infection - cervical Ca - biopsy - PCR

Abstract

Background: Phacolytic glaucoma is a secondary glaucoma which occurs in open angle hypermature cataract and caused by trabecular obstruction. This abstruction occurs due to the leaked of lens protein through an intact capsule. Hyphaema in phacolytic glaucoma is an unusual case. Objective : To evaluate the result of conservative therapy and extra capsular cataract extraction on phacolytic glaucoma associated with hyphaema. Methods :A case of hyphaema in phacolytic glaucoma has been reported in a 62 year old man. Symptoms of decreased visual acuity, pain, headache were found in this case. Ophthalmology examination found right visual acuity 1/", light projection and color perception good, conjunctival hyperaemia, ciliary injection, corneal edema, hyphaema, opacity of anterior chamber, iris atrophy, posterior synechiae, and increased intraocular pressure. This case was treated conservatively and cataract surgery was also done accordingly.Result: The result of treatment was loss of vitreous resulted from rupture of posterior capsule, decreased of intraocular pressure. Conclusion : Conservative therapy and extra capsular cataract extraction can improve visual acuity in phacolytic glaucoma associated with hyphaema.Key words: hyphaema - phacolytic glaucoma - conservative and cataract surgery - vitreous loss.

Abstract

Rappaport non-Hodgkin lymphoma classification is well known, by pathologists and clinicians. This classification is based on the morphology of tumor cells. Lukes and Collins classification, and also Lennert classification are new non-Hodgkin lymphoma classifications. These classifications are based on morphology, basic function of tumor cells, and the clinical application. However, there are some differences between Rappaport classification, Lukes and Collins classification and Lennert classification. To compromise the differences of the classifications, there is a working classification of non-Hodgkin lymphoma which is used for clinical diagnosis. It is important to discuss the non-Hodgkin lymphoma classifications because each classification has its own basis. The basic classification of non-Hodgkin lymphoma is useful for the specialists based on their specialties; Lennert classification, and Lukes and Collins classification are the applicable classifications of non-Hodgkin lymphoma for pathologists and clinicians, while Rappaport classification is more useful for pathologists.Key Words: non-Hodgkin lymphoma histopathological diagnosis of lymphoma - basic function of tumor cells - leucaemia - Sezary's syndrome

Abstract

Key words: Plasmodium vinckei petteri -- malaria -- LACA mice -- mononuclear phagocyte -- cellular immunity

Abstract

To confirm the presence of any dengue viral in a mosquito, mosquito’s head can be squashed ona slide and stained with immunohistochemical staining. The remaining samples then can bestored in the cryo freezer at -80ºC to avoid specimen damage. However, for laboratories withlimited facilities, with only a refrigerator with a temperature range of -20ºC to 4ºC is available, examination to evaluate whether the dengue antigen can still be detected in specimens storedat these temperature is necessary. It was a quasi-experimental study. Three to five-day-old adultfemale Aedes aegypti mosquitoes were injected intrathoracically with dengue-3 (DENV-3) strainH-87 virus and then maintained for about 7 days. The dengue viral antigen on mosquitoes wasidentified using immunohistochemical method after stored at a temperature of 4oC, -20oC, -80oCfor 2, 4 and 8 weeks. Mosquito specimens that were not stored were used as a positive control.Kappa value was counted to analyze level of agreements between two observers. Two-wayAnova was used to analyze mean positive rates. Kappa value showed poor agreement (0.00-0.16) between two observers when the specimens were stored at 4oC for 2-8 weeks, and showedgood agreement (Kappa value of 0.77), when stored at -20oC for 4 weeks. The kappa valueshowed very good agreement (0.90-0.92) when the specimens were stored at -20oC for 2 weeks, and at -80oC for 2-8 weeks. Mean positive rates of the specimens stored at 4oC were significantlylower (p<0.005) than stored at -20oC and -80oC, but there were no significant differencesbetween specimens stored at -20oC and -80oC (p>0.05). In conclusion, availability of thedengue viral antigen on mosquito specimens was influenced by temperature and storage durationof the specimens. Keywords: dengue virus - head squash - immunohistochemistry - kappa agreement - temperature
