Abstract

The productivity level of red chili in Wuluhan Sub-district in 2010 until 2015 has fluctuated. The level of productivity in red chili commodities in Wuluhan Sub-district is estimated to be influenced by several factors of production (fertilizer, pesticide, labor) and planting season. Some problems experienced by red chili farmers in Wuluhan Sub-district apart from productivity side of unstable but also from unstable selling price side. This research aims to determine (1) the influence of factors of production and planting season on productivity level of red chillies in Wuluhan Sub-district Jember District; (2) the efficiency of the price of the use of production factors at red chili farming in Wuluhan Sub-district, Jember District; (3) cost efficiency at red chili farming in Wuluhan Sub-district, Jember district. Location of research conducted by method of Purposive Method that is determination of research location done intentionally. Data collection methods used for primary data collection is the method of interview and questionnaire (questionnaire) while the data collection method used for secondary data collection is a documentation technique. The analytical tools used include: Cobb-Douglas production function, price efficiency and cost efficiency. The results showed that (1) production factors of pesticide, labor and planting season significantly affect productivity level; (2) The use of fertilizer, pesticide and labor production factor has not reached the price efficiency because the ratio between NPMxi and Pxi is more than one; (3) the use of cost is efficient, the business is run profitable and feasible to cultivate.

Abstract

Information literacy of farmers is especially significant for the growth of farmer, increasing farmers’ income, promoting efficiency of agriculture and rural development. The aims of this research are getting to know 1) the challenge of farmers to understand the needs, source, access of agricultural information and 2) the challenge of farmers information literacy: possess, syntesize, analyze, diseminate and adoption of agricultural information. Participatory action research was choosen as a tool for enacting farmer-driven research. This result showed that the challenge of understanding the needs of agricultural information are slightly on the low level because farmers have understood the needs of information variety to enhance better farming. They can mention the basic needs of agricultural information on farming in the coastal sandy land which are resistant seed, watering and mulch system, biochemical of fertilizer and pesticide, and market product information. The challenge of farmers information literacy on how the farmers possess, synthesize, analyze, diseminate and adoption of information are demanding. Majority of farmers who called as members of farmer group have merely depended on the information which is provided by the group. They mostly conduct and access agricultural information by using interpersonal approach.

Abstract

Although the amount of Indonesian cocoa production is quite high, but the volume of cocoagrinding is still relatively low compared to the potential that should be obtained. Therefore, Indonesia should improve the cocoa processing industry sector. This research was intended to: analyze the implementation of each component of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) at Smallholder Cocoa Processing Center (PPKR) of Jembrana in accordance with Agriculture Minister’s Regulation No. 35/Permentan/OT.140/7/2008; analyze the efficiency level of the use of costs at PPKR Jembrana. The research results showed that the level of GMP implementation based on Agriculture Minister’s Regulation No.35/Permentan/OT.140/7/2008 at PPKR Jembrana was still partial (47%). In the one year production, the use of costs at PPKR Jembrana was efficient indicated by the value of R/C>1, but the value was resulted by subsidized cost structure (cost of raw materials/cocoa seeds, employee salaries, depreciation of equipment, machinery depreciation, building depreciation, property and building taxes, electricity cost, and water cost). If subsidies were removed, the value of efficiency would drop even become inefficient. By the whole implementation of GMP, the inefficient costs in form of process failure cost and product return cost can be reduced, so the efficiency of the costs use will increase.
