Abstract

Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian tentang analisis terhadap buku paket bahasa inggris siswa dan guru kelas VIII SMP yang dibuat oleh pemerintah. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mencari tahu masalah-masalah yang dihadapi guru dan murid dalam menggunakan buku paket bahasa inggris kelas VIII yang disediakan oleh pemerintah, mengetahui kualitas umum dari buku paket, mencari tahu kecukupan dari materi pendukung dalam buku serta mencari tahu kecukupan materi komponen bahasa dalam buku. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Subjek dari penelitian ini adalah dua kelas VIII yang dengan menggunakan teknik purposive sampling dan semua guru bahasa inggris kelas VIII yang mengajar di SMP N 4 singaraja. Data dikumpulkan berdasarkan hasil kuisioner dan ceklis. Kuisioner digunakan untuk mengetahui masalah yang dihadapi siswa dan guru dalam menggunakan buku sedangkan ceklis digunakan untuk mengetahui kualitas buku secara umum dan spesifik. Berdasarkan hasil checklist diperoleh bahwa kualitas umum buku adalah baik dengan skor 72,77. Selain itu, materi pendamping dalam buku tergolong sangat kurang, namun materi komponen bahasa seperti kosa kata, tata bahasa dan phonetic tergolong cukup. Berdasarkan hasil kuisioner, terdapat beberapa masalah yang dihadapi guru dan siswa dalam penggunaan buku paket seperti; distribusi buku yang lambat, kurangnya variasi aktifitas pembelajaran, tidak terdapatnya daftar kosa kata, ketidaksesuaian petunjuk buku guru dengan kurikulum, ketidaksesuaian indikator dan tujuan dengan buku, kurangnya materi pendukung serta ketidaksesuain materi dengan kemampuan siswa. Dengan demikian, disarankan kepada pemerintah untuk mencocokkan dan menyesuaikan silabus dengan buku paket sebelum diterbitkan.Kata Kunci : Buku Teks, Analisis Buku Teks, When English Rings A Bell, Kurikulum 2013 This research was about an analysis of a textbook entitled “When English Rings A Bell SMP/MTs Kelas VIII” used in SMP Negeri 4 Singaraja. Abstract

Abstract

This research aimed to identify the EFL teacher’s personal characteristics that motivate the students in the classroom and to find out the students’ reasons of being motivated by their English teacher’s personal characteristics. The subjects of the study were 68 students of the eleventh grade of SMA Negeri 1 Negara in the academic year 2014/2015. This research was designed in the form of qualitative descriptive research. This research used focus group discussion as main data collection, observation and note taking as supporting data collection in collecting the data. The result of the study showed that there were six English teacher’s personal characteristics that motivated the students in the classroom namely having a sense of humor, demonstrating professional responsibility, effective rapport (being friendly, being respectful, and being kind), being patient, caring and being creative. A humorous teacher made the classroom environment cheerful; the students were enthusiastic in listening the lesson; and increase the students’ willingness to learn English. A friendly teacher made the students feel so close to the teacher which made them comfortable in learning English and brave to ask something related to the lesson. A creative teacher could entertain the students which made the students enthusiastic (not bored), interested, and fun during the lesson so the classroom environment would be pleasant and made the students remember the lesson longer and feel challenged to finish the assignment. A kind teacher made the students enjoy the study. A patient teacher made the students brave to ask something or share their opinion. A professional teacher made the students easier to catch the material and become more disciplined in the learning process. A caring teacher made the students feel secured and better understand the lesson. A respectful teacher made the students confident.keyword : EFL, motivation, personal characteristics

Abstract

This study aimed at (1) investigating and analyzing the types of communication strategies used by the people involved in Ngidih wedding ceremonny and (2) knowing the motives of the use communication strategies in Ngidih wedding process. The subjects of this study were two kelian adat, two kelian dinas, pangeter, groom’s and bride parents in Padangbulia village. The data were collected by using the researcher as the main instrument helped by some devices, namely non-participant observation, audio-video recorder, interview and field note. The types of communication strategies were gathered by observing and recording the people involved during Ngidih wedding process, while the interview guides were used to gather the data about the motives in using the types of communication strategies used by the respondents. The results of this study showed that there were 9 types of communication strategies used by prajuru (manggala desa), groom’s and bride’s family. Mime strategy was the most frequently used by prajuru (manggala desa), groom’s and bride’s family. The motives of using those strategies among the respondents were intented to make everthing clear and acceptable. They also said that it was usually shown naturally by them in order to emphasize the aims, and they used gesture or facial expression to express their feeling in their speech. Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan 1) Tipe interaksi kelas apa yang digunakan oleh guru dan siswa selama proses belajar dan mengajar di SMP N 2 Seririt, 2) Apa fungsi dari masing-masing tipe interaksi kelas selama proses belajar dan mengajar dikelas. Subjek dari penelitian ini adalah guru dan kelas IX E SMP Negeri 2 Seririt. Penelitian ini menggunakan rancangan kualitatif dalam bentuk study kasus. Instrument yang digunakan dalam mengumpulkan data adalah peneliti, kamera, lembar observasi, panduan wawancara. Hasil dari analisi menunjukkan ada 9 tipe Sinclair dan Coulthard (1975) teori yang dikenal dengan IRF (Initiation-Response-Follow up) yang terjadi selama interaksi di kelas. Masing-masing tipe tersebut adalah: question, inform, invitation, direction, prompt, encouragement, ignoring, acknowledge and response. Tipe interaksi kelas yang paling sering terjadi adalah response dan yang paling sedikit adalah ignoring. Ada tigabelas fungsi yang berbeda di setiap tipe interaksi kelas yang ditemukan berdasarka Sinclair dan Coulthard (1975) di level act, diantaranya adalah starter, directive, informative, clue, reply, bid, react, nomination, accept, acknowledge and prompt. Kata Kunci : Kata kunci: Interaksi kelas, Sinclair dan Coulthard (1975) teori This study aimed at describing (1) what types of classroom interaction are used by English teacher and students during teaching and learning process in SMP N 2 Seririt, (2) What are the functions of each type of classroom interaction during teaching and learning process in SMP N 2 Seririt. The subjects of the study were the teacher and students in IX E class SMP Negeri 2 Seririt. This study was qualitative in the form of case study. The instruments used in collecting the data were: the researcher, video camera, observation sheet, and interview guide. The result of the analysis showed that there were nine types of Sinclair and Coulthard (1975) theory occurred during the interaction in the class which is known as IRF (initiation-response-follow up). Respectively the types were as follows: question, inform, invitation, direction, prompt, encouragement, ignoring, acknowledge and response. The response type was the most frequently occurred, while ignoring was the least frequently occurred during the teaching and learning process. Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis jenis tindakan direktif yang digunakan oleh siswa kelas XI SMA Negeri 1 Seririt. Subyek penelitian ini adalah 41 siswa, terdiri dari 30 perempuan dan 11 laki-laki. Penelitian ini memanfaatkan metode deskriptif kualitatif, dimana data penelitian diperoleh melalui data yang elisitasi dan rekaman. Data yang dikumpulkan kemudian ditranskrip dan diklasifikasikan ke dalam 11 kategori tindak direktif. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa tindakan direktif yang digunakan oleh siswa berurutan dapat disajikan sebagai berikut: perintah (236), permintaan (227), berdoa (219), untuk saran (196), untuk mengizinkan (49), kemudian diikuti oleh untuk bertanya dan memesan masing-masing (2) dari 931 ujaran. Setiap tindakan direktif muncul diwujudkan dengan menggunakan lebih dari satu pola kalimat yang berbeda, misalnya "(kata modal + S + vt. + N/P + (silakan/tolong)" yang digunakan dalam permintaan. Analisis gaya bahasa pada ujaran siswa menunjukkan bahwa gaya Bahasa (style) yang paling sering digunakan oleh siswa adalah informal, yang digunakan dalam perintah (633 ujaran), sedangkan yang kurang banyak digunakan adalah formal, yang digunakan dalam berdoa (298 ujaran). Kesalahan dalam hal tata bahasa dan diksi yang dilakukan oleh siswa dalam tindakan direktif mereka adalah serupa jumlahnya, yang mana masing-masing memiliki 344 kesalahan. Dari 281 kesalahan yang terjadi pada 222 ujaran yang memiliki kesalahan, frekuensi tertinggi disebabkan oleh kesalahan Intralingua (255 kesalahan), sedangkan frekuensi terendah yakni dari kesalahan yang disebabkan oleh Developmental atau pengembangan ( hanya 13 kesalahan).Kata Kunci : deskriptif kualitatif, tindakan direktif, gaya bahasa, analisis kesalahan, sumber kesalahan The aim of this study was to analyze the types of directive acts used by the eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Seririt. The subjects of this study were 41 students, consisting of 30 females and 11 males. This study made use of a descriptive qualitative method. The data of the study were obtained through data elicitation and recording, then transcribed and classified into 11 categories of directive acts. The result of the analysis showed that the directive acts used by the students can sequentially be presented, as follows: to command (236 speeches), to request (227 speeches), to pray (219 speeches), to advice (196 speeches), to permit (49 speeches), then followed by to ask and to order (2 speeches) out of 931 speeches. Each of the directive act appeared was realized by using more than one different sentence patterns, for example “(modals + S + vt. + n/p + (please)” used in to request. The analysis of speech styles showed that the most style frequently used by the students was informal used in to command (633 speeches), meanwhile the less was formal used in to pray (298 speeches). The errors in terms of grammar and diction committed by the students in directing were similar in number, which is 344 errors each. From 281 errors occurred in 222 error speeches, the highest frequency of errors were caused by the Intralingua (225 errors), meanwhile the lowest frequency of errors were caused by the Developmental (13 errors only). keyword : descriptive qualitative, directive acts, speech styles, error analysis, sources of errors

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui ada atau tidaknya perbedaan yang berarti dalam kemampuan menulis antara siswa yang diajarkan dengan menggunakan Picture Word Inductive Model (PWIM) dan siswa yang diajarkan dengan menggunakan teknik menulis yang konvensional. Rancangan dari penelitian ini yaitu Post-test Only Control Group Design. Populasi yang digunakan yaitu siswa kelas delapan di SMP Negeri 6 Singaraja. 72 siswa dipilih sebagai subjek penelitian dengan menggunakan teknik random sampling. Hasil dari analisis memperlihatkan bahwa ada perbedaan yang berarti dalam kemampuan menulis antara siswa yang diajarkan dengan menggunakan Picture Word Inductive Model (PWIM) dan siswa yang diajarkan dengan menggunakan teknik menulis yang konvensional (tobs = -7.022, Sig. 0.001) dimana siswa yang diajarkan dengan menggunakan Picture Word Inductive Model (PWIM) memiliki kemampuan menulis yang lebih baik.Kata Kunci : picture word inductive model, kemampuan menulis This study was aimed at investigating whether or not there was a significant difference in writing competency between the students taught by using Picture Word Inductive Model (PWIM) and those taught by using conventional writing technique. Abstract

Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan siswa menggunakan teknik role play. Subjek penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas delapan kelas A di SMP Negeri 1 Banjar, tahun akademik 2015/2016. Jumlah subjek penelitian ini adalah 37 siswa. Penelitian ini di desain menggunakan penelitian tindakan kelas dimana dilakukan dalam dua siklus. Tiap siklus berisi empat langkah seperti: perencanaan, tindakan, observasi, dan refleksi. Pre-test diberikan kepada siswa untuk mengetahui pengetahuan dasar pada kosa kata yang telah mereka pelajari. Data diperoleh dengan menggunakan dua jenis instrument: test dan questionnaire yang di analisis secara deskirptif. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa role play dapat efektif meningkatkan kemampuan siswa di berbicara. Peningkatan siswa di lihat dari skor rata-rata yang diperoleh siswa. Skor rata-rata pre-test adalah 51,13 dan ini dalam tingkat kurang. Peningkatan Skor menjadi 66,32 di posttest 1 yang mana berada di tingkat baik. Peningkatan skor menjadi 70,05 berada di tingkat baik. Hasil dari questionnaire dan informal interview mengindikasikan bahwa 85,83% siswa menyukai pelajaran bahasa Inggris dengan menggunakan teknik role play dengan motivasi tinggi. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa role play adalah teknik yang efektif untuk meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam berbicara bahasa Inggris Kata Kunci : Berbicara, teknik role play This study was aimed at improving speaking competence of the students by using role play technique. The subjects of this research were the eighth grade students of class A at SMP Negeri 1 Banjar in the academic year 2015/2016. The total number of subjects was 37 students. This study was designed with a classroom action research which was conducted in two cycles that consisted of four meetings, three meetings were used to apply the role play technique and one meeting was used for the test and questionnaire. Each cycle involved four steps namely: planning, action, observation, and reflection. Pre-test was given to students in order to know the initial knowledge on vocabulary they had learnt. The data were obtained using two kinds of instruments: tests and questionnaires that would be analyzed descriptively. The result of this study showed that role play could effectively improve the students’ competence in speaking. The improvement of the students was noted from the mean score obtained by the students. The mean score of the pre test was 51.13 and this was in poor level. The score increased up to 66.32 in post test 1 in which was good level. The score increased up to 70.05 and was a good level. The result of questionnaire indicated that 85.83% and 98.91% students liked learning English by using role play technique with high motivation. Abstract

Penelitian ini dilaksanakan dengan tujuan (1) mengidentintifikasi nilai – nilai karakter yang di insert di dalam buku Bahasa inggris siswa dan (2) menganalisis strategi – strategi yang digunakan dalam inserting nilai – nilai karakter ke dalam buku Bahasa inggris siswa SMP kelas VIII semester 1. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitative yang merupakan penelitian analisis dokumen yang dilaksanakan di luar ruang kelas. Data diperoleh dengan cara identifikasi, pengelompokan, dan penjelasan. Data diperoleh dengan menggunakan teori Trianguation. Penemuan dari hasil penelitian menyatakan bahwa 14 dari 18 nilai – nilai karakter diinsert di dalam buku Bahasa inggris berjudul “When English Rings a Bell” Kurikulum 2013 Semester 1 untuk SMP kelas VIII. 14 nilai – nilai karakter yang diinsert di dalam buku Bahasa inggris siswa berjudul “When English Rings a Bell” adalah toleransi, disiplin, senang membaca, menghargai prestasi, ramah/berteman/komunikatif, mandiri, bekerja keras, bertanggung jawab, jujur, peduli social, cinta damai, kreatif, peduli lingkungan, dan ingin tahu. Nilai – nilai karakter tersebut diiinsert melalui strategi – strategi mengajar yang diusulkan oleh Thomas Lickona. Strategy – strategy tersebut adalah strategy role play, self-evaluation, cooperative learning, creating moral community in the class; knowing each other, dan teaching for students’ interest. Kata Kunci : nilai-nilai karakter, strategi mengajar, buku pelajaran Abstract This study was conducted to (1) identify the character values inserted and (2) analyze the strategies used to insert the character values inserted in students English Textbook Curriculum 2013 for grade VIII. This study was a qualitative study using document study which was conducted outside of the classroom. The data Wet collected through identification, categorization, and description. The data validation was gained through method triangulation. The findings of the study showed that there were fourteen character values inserted in English Textbooks entitled “When English Rings a Bell” based on Curriculum 2013 use for the grade VIII students. The fourteen character values inserted in students English Textbook “When English Rings a Bell” are tolerant, discipline, love reading, appreciating achievement, friendly/communicative, independent, hard work, responsible, honest, social care, love pace, creative, environmental care, and curious. Those character values were inserted through teaching strategy promoted by Lickona, namely role play strategy, self-evaluation, cooperative learning, creating moral community in the class, knowing each other, and teaching for students’ interest. keyword : character values, teaching strategies, textbook

Abstract

Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui kualitas buku teks, kesesuaian antara buku teks dengan kurikulum 2013, penampilan secara umum buku teks, dan masalah yang dialami oleh siswa dan guru dari penggunaan buku teks di SMA Negeri 3 Singaraja. Objek penelitian ini adalah buku teks berjudul “Bahasa Inggris untuk SMA/MA/SMK/MAK Kelas X.” Subjek penelitian ini adalah empat puluh lima siswa kelas X dan dua guru bahasa inggris yang mengajar di kelas X SMA Negeri 3 Singaraja tahun ajaran 2014/2015. Subjek ditentukan dengan menggunakan purposive technique. Data mengenai kualitas buku teks, kesesuaian buku teks dengan kurikulum 2013, dan penampilan secara umum buku teks dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan ceklis. Sedangkan, data mengenai masalah yang dialami oleh siswa dan guru dari penggunaan buku teks diperoleh dari kuesioner yang disebarkan kepada siswa dan guru bahasa inggris. Dari hasil analisis data ceklis, skor kualitas buku teks adalah 67.22 berarti cukup, skor kesesuaian buku teks dengan kurikulum 2013 adalah 63.63 berarti cukup, sedangkan skor penampilan secara umum buku teks adalah 60 berarti cukup. Dari hasil analisis data kuesioner, terdapat beberapa masalah yang dialami oleh siswa dan guru, diantaranya keterlambatan pendistribusian buku teks dan ketidakjelasan tahap pendekatan saintifik dalam buku guru. Secara keseluruhan, buku teks berjudul “Bahasa Inggris untuk SMA/MA/SMK/MAK Kelas X” cukup baik namun masih terdapat masalah dalam penggunaannya. Oleh karena itu, dapat direkomendasikan bahwa penyusun dan pemerintah bersinergi dalam memperbaiki keterlambatan pendistribusian buku teks, melengkapi materi buku teks agar sesuai dengan kurikulum 2013, dan menyesuaikan materi dengan karakter siswa.Kata Kunci : Analisis buku teks, buku teks berjudul “Bahasa Inggris untuk SMA/MA/SMK/MAK Kelas X”, kurikulum 2013 The research was descriptive qualitative. This study aimed at finding out the general quality of the textbook, the relevancy between the textbook and the curriculum 2013, the physical appearance of the textbook, and problems encountered by the students and teachers of SMA Negeri 3 Singaraja in using the textbook. The object was the textbook entitled “Bahasa Inggris untuk SMA/MA/SMK/MAK Kelas X.” The subjects of this study were forty-five students of the tenth grade and two English teachers teaching at the tenth grade of SMA Negeri 3 Singaraja and chosen using purposive technique. The data of the general quality of the textbook, the relevancy between the textbook and the curriculum 2013, and the physical appearance of the textbook were gained using checklist. Meanwhile, the data of the problems encountered by the students and teachers were gained using questionnaires. According to the result of checklist data analysis, the general quality of the textbook is sufficient with score 67.22, the relevancy between the textbook and the curriculum 2013 is sufficient with score 63.63, and the physical appearance of the textbook is sufficient with score 60. According to the result of questionnaire data analysis, some problems are encountered, such as the tardiness of the textbook distribution and the vagueness of the steps of scientific approach with the teacher’s manual. Therefore, it is recommended that the author and government should fix the tardiness of the textbook distribution and complete the materials in order to be relevant with the curriculum 2013.keyword : Textbook analysis, a textbook entitled “Bahasa Inggris untuk SMA/MA/SMK/MAK Kelas X”, the curriculum 2013.
