Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi jenis peminjaman leksikal dan untuk menyelidiki fungsi atau motif dari pengunaan peminjaman leksikal di Blackberry Messenger oleh mahasiswa semester delapan Jurusan Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris. Penelitian ini dirancang menggunakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Instrumen yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini meliputi media electronik, lembar observasi, pedoman wawancara, rekaman audio. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa terdapat tiga proses peminjaman leksikal yang dilakukan oleh mahasiswa semester delapan Jurusan Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris. Akumulasi data menunjukan bahwa terdapat enam puluh lima (65) kata yang diklasifikasikan sebagai proses impor, dua puluh enam (26) kata yang diklasifikasikan sebagai proses perpaduan pinjaman, dan yang terakhir ada satu (1) kata yang diklasifikasikan sebagai proses penerjemahan pinjaman. Fungsi atau motif dari peminjaman leksikal adalah “kebutuhan” dan “gengsi”, yang mana mereka mengakui meminjam kata-kata tersebut dikarenakan tidak adanya padanan kata yang ada di Bahasa Indonesia dan diharuskan untuk menggunakan kata-kata pinjaman dikarenakan mereka ingin terlihat pintar, keren, dan mempunyai status social yang lebih tinggi di social media. Kata Kunci : Blackberry Meessenger, Peminjaman Leksikal Abstract This study aimed to identify the types of lexical borrowing and to investigate the function or motive of the use of lexical borrowing in Blackberry Messenger by the eighth semester students of English Education Department. This study was conducted in descriptive qualitative design. The instruments used in this study were electronic media, observation sheet, interview guide, and audio recording. The result of this study showed that there were three process of lexical borrowing used by the eighth semester students of English Education Department. The data accumulation showed that there were sixty five (65) words borrowed by importation process, twenty six (26) words borrowed by loanblend process, and one (1) word classified as a of result loan translation process. The functions or motives in using of lexical borrowing were, “need” and “prestige”, in which they admitted borrowing the words because there is no exact equivalent word that exists in Bahasa Indonesia and have to used borrowed words because they want to look smart, being cool, and has higher social status in social media. keyword : Blackberry Messenger, Lexical Borrowing

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menivestigasi apakah ada perbedaan yang signifikan dalam kemampuan menulis antara siswa yang diajar menggunakan strategi “PLEASE” dan siswa yang diajar menggunakan strategi menulis konvensional. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian eksperimen dengan desain Post-test Only Control Group. Populasi terdiri dari siswa kelas sepuluh SMA Negeri 1 Sukasada pada tahun ajaran 2016/2017 dengan 44 siswa sebagai sample yang dipilih menggunakan teknik random sampling. Data dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan writing competency test. Data yang terkumpul dianalisis dengan menggunakan t-test yang dibantu dengan SPSS 19.0. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan terhadap kemampuan menulis antara siswa yang diajar menggunakan strategi “PLEASE” dan siswa yang diajar menggunakan strategi menulis konvensional (tobs = 12.506, p < 0.05) dimana pencapaian siswa yang diajar menggunakan strategi “PLEASE” lebih baik dalam kemampuan menulis dibandingkan dengan siswa yang diajar menggunakan strategi menulis konventional. Kata Kunci : kemampuan menulis, strategi “PLEASE”, strategi menulis konvensional. This research was aimed at investigating whether there was a significant difference on writing competency between the students who were taught by using “PLEASE” strategy and those who were taught by using conventional writing strategy. This research was an experimental research with Post-test Only Control Group Design. The population of this research was the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Sukasada in academic year 2016/2017 with the sample of 44 students who were selected through random sampling technique. The data were collected by using writing competency test. The obtained data were analyzed by using t-test assisted with SPSS 19.0. The result of the research showed that there was a significant difference on writing competency between the students who were taught by using “PLEASE” strategy and those who were taught by using conventional writing strategy (tobs = 12.506, p < 0.05) in which the students who were taught by using “PLEASE” strategy achieved better in writing competency than those who were taught by conventional writing strategy.keyword : conventional writing strategy, “PLEASE” strategy, writing competency

Abstract

Penelitian ini ditujukan untuk menginvestigasi ada atau tidaknya perbedaan yang signifikan dalam kemampuan memahami bacaan antara siswa yang diajar menggunakan strategi Reciprocal Questioning dalam situasi Cooperative Learning dan siswa yang diajar menggunakan metode konvensional. Penelitian inimerupakan penelitian eksperimen dengan desain Post-test Only Control Group. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di SMA Negeri 4 Singaraja. Populasi pada penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas sebelas di SMA Negeri 4 Singaraja pada tahun akademik 2016/2017 dengan 60 siswasebagaisampel yang dipilih menggunakan teknik random sampling. Data dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan reading comprehension test. Data yang terkumpul dianalisis dengan t-test yang dibantu oleh SPSS 23. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian ekperimental dengan Post-Test Only Control Group Design. Penilitian ini dilaksanakan di SMA N 3 Singaraja. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas sebelas pada tahun ajaran 2016/2017 dengan sampel dari 65 siswa yang dipilih melalui random sampling. Data dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan test pemahaman membaca. Data yang terkumpul dianalisa menggunakan t-test dibantu dengan SPSS 22.0. Abstract

This study was a correlational study with ex-post facto research design, which aimed at investigating (1) the contribution of metacognitive awareness on students’ academic achievement, (2) the contribution of learning environment on students’ academic achievement, (3) the simultaneous contribution of metacognitive awareness and learning environment on academic achievement of the fourth semester students of English Education Department, Ganesha University of Education in academic years 2015/2016. Ex-post facto research design was a research design to investigate the correlation between independent variables and dependent variable by (1) determining the sample, (2) designing and developing the questionnaires, (3) distributing the questionnaires, (4) analyzing the obtained data, and (5) drawing the conclusion. The sample of the study was chosen by using simple random sampling technique, in which there were 145 students. The analysis was conducted based on multiple linear regression test supported by SPSS version 16 program. This study reveals that: (1) there is no contribution of metacognitive awareness on students’ academic achievement; (2) there is no contribution of learning environment on students’ academic achievement; and (3) there is no contribution of metacognitive awareness and learning environment on students’ academic achievement. keyword : metacognitive awareness, academic achievement, learning environment

Abstract

Kajian ini bertujuan untuk menyelidiki isu-isu rasisme yang terkandung di dalam internet meme komik di 9gag.com melalui analisis tekstual menggunakan teori mythology dari Barthes. kajian ini juga difokuskan untuk menggali tujuan yang di miliki oleh internet meme di 9gag.com. dari hasil kajian ini ditemukan bahwa ada 56 meme yang teridentifikasi sebagai meme yang rasist dalam periode yang sudah di tentukan yaitu pada bulan Maret sampai dengan Mei 2106. Dari data, ditemukan bahwa, meme yang terkumpul bisa di bagi menjadi tiga klasifikasi besar yaitu rasis meme dengan isu politik, rasis meme dengan isu etnis dan rasis meme dengan isu agama. Dalam rasis meme dengan isu politic, bisa di bagi menjadi dua yaitu meme dengan isu politic mendukung pencalonan Donald Trump. dan meme dengan isu politik menolak pencalonan Donald Trump. dalam rasis memedengan isu etnik, dapat di bagi menjadi rasis meme dengan isu etnik menolak orang-orang asia, rasis meme dengan isu etnik menolak orang-orang kulit putih, rasis meme dengan isu etnik mendukung orang-orang kulit putih dan rasis meme dengan isu etnik menolak orang-orang Afro-American. Di dalam rasis meme dengan isu agama, meme itu terdiri dari rasis meme dengan isu agama terkait dengan anti islam.Kata Kunci : internet meme komik, teori mythology oleh Barthes, rasisme, myth. This present study was aimed at investigating racism issues signified in internet meme comic at 9gag.com through textual analysis using Barthes’s theory of mythology. This study also focused to discover the purpose conveyed by the internet meme comic at 9gag.com. The subject of this study was the internet meme comic at 9gag.com¬. It was found that there were 56 meme indicated as racist meme in the period of study that was from March to May 2016. From the data, it found that the meme collected could be divided into three major classifications that were racial meme with political issues, racial meme with ethnicity issues, and racial meme with religious issues. In racial meme with political issues, it could be divided into two that is meme with political issues supporting Donald Trump’s candidacy and meme with political issues against Donald Trump’s candidacy. In racial meme with ethnicity issues, it could be divided into racial meme with ethnicity issues against Asian people, racial meme with ethnicity issues against white people, racial meme with ethnicity issues supporting white people, and racial meme with ethnicity issues against Afro-American people. Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menyelidiki apakah ada perbedaan yang signifikan pada kemampuan menulis teks deskriptif siswa pada kelas tujuh SMP Negeri 4 Singaraja. Desain penelitian yang diganakan adalah Post-test Only Control Group Design. Populasi penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VII SMP Negeri 4 Singaraja. Cluster Random Sampling diguanakan untuk memilih sampel penelitian. Kelompok eksperimen diajar dengan menggunakan teknik Team Pair Solo dan kelompok kontrol diajar dengan menggunakan teknik mengajar konvensional. Hasil analisis data menunjukkan bahwa siswa dalam kelompok eksperimen lebih baik daripada siswa dalam kelompok kontrol. Hal ini dibuktikan oleh hasil statistik deskriptif yang menunjukkan nilai rata-rata dari kelompok eksperimen adalah 82,66 sedangkan nilai rata-rata dari kelompok kontrol adalah 79,75. Hasil uji-t juga menunjukkan bahwa nilai tobs lebih tinggi dari tcv. Nilai tobs adalah 3,214 sedangkan nilai tcv adalah 1,6697. Ini berarti ada perbedaan yang signifikan pada kemampuan menulis teks deskriptif siswa yang diajar dengan menggunakan teknik Team Pair Solo dan yang diajar dengan menggunakan teknik mengajar konvensional. Oleh karena itu, hipotesis nol (Ho) ditolak dan hipotesis alternatif (Ha) diterima.Kata Kunci : teknik Team Pair Solo, teknik mengajar konvensional, kemampuan menulis teks deskriptif. This study aimed to investigate whether there was a significant effect on students’ writing descriptive text achievement of the seventh grade of SMP Negeri 4 SIngaraja. The research design of this study was Post-test Only Control Group Design. The population was the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 4 Singaraja. Cluster Random Sampling was assigned to select the sample of the study. The experimental group was taught by using Team Pair Solo Technique and the control group was taught by using conventional teaching technique. The result of the data analysis showed that students in experimental group performed better than the students in control group. It was proven by the result of the descriptive statistics that showed the mean score of the experimental group was 82.66 while the mean score of the control group was 79.75. The result of the t-test also showed that the value of the tobs was higher than the tcv. The value of the tobs was 3.214 while the value of the tcv was 1.6697. It means that there was a significant difference on students’ writing descriptive text achievement who were taught by using Team Pair Solo Technique and those who were taught by using conventional teaching technique. Therefore the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected and the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted.keyword : Team Pair Solo Technique, conventional teaching technique, writing descriptive text achievement.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui bentuk, fungsi bahasa dan faktor Bahasa inggris digunakan antara pedagang jalanan ketika mereka berkomunikasi dengan para wisatawan. Penelitian ini dilakukan di Banjar Hot Spring, Bali. Empat pedagang jalanan dipilih sebagai subyek penelitian ini berdasarkan kriteria. Penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif dimana data yang terkumpul dianalisis secara kualitatif. Peneliti adalah instrumen utama yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini. Dua perangkat yang digunakan oleh peneliti untuk mengumpulkan data, yaitu perekam video dan notetaking. Peneliti mengamati data dengan merekam percakapan yang dilakukan oleh subyek selama dua kali. Data ditranskrip dan dianalisis untuk mengetahui bentuk, fungsi bahasa dan faktor bahasa inggris. Hasil analisis data menunjukkan bahwa bentuk bahasa inggris yang digunakan antara pedagang jalanan adalah penyimpangan dari apa yang biasanya digunakan dalam hal tata bahasa, sintaksis, dan kosa kata dan juga ada beberapa komponen bahasa yaitu phonology, morphology, and syntax, Berdasarkan teori Spratt, Pulverness, dan Williams (2005: 17), ada tujuh fungsi bahasa yang digunakan antara pedagang jalanan ketika mereka berkomunikasi dengan wisatawan. Fungsi-fungsi Bahasa yang di maksud yaitu salam, menawarkan barang dan jasa, meminta pendapat, memberikan informasi, tidak setuju, berterima kasih, dan meninggalkan tempat yang digunakan antara pedagang jalanan, ada tujuh fungsi yang menjadi fokus penelitian ini.Kata Kunci : Bahasa Inggris, Pedagang jalanan, Bentuk, Fungsi Bahasa. This study was aimed at finding out the forms, language function and factor of English used by the Street Vendors when they communicated with the tourists. This study was conducted at Banjar Hot Spring, Bali. Four street vendors were chosen as the subjects of this study based on the criteria. This study was descriptive qualitative in which the data collected were analyzed qualitatively. The researcher is the main instrument employed in this study. Two devices were used by the researcher to collect the data, namely video recorder and notetaking. The researcher observed the data by recording the conversation done by the subjects for two times. The data were transcribed and analyzed to find out the form, language function and factors of English. The result of the data analysis showed that the form of English used by the street vendors was a deviation from what is normally used in terms of grammar, syntax, and vocabulary and also some component of language such as phonology, morphology, and syntax. Based on the theory Spratt, Pulverness, and Williams (2005: 17), there are seven function of language used by Street Vendors when they were communicating with the tourist. Those language functions were greeting, offering goods and service, asking opinion, giving information, disagreeing, thanking, and leave-taking That is used by street vendors, there were seventh function that become the focus of this study.keyword : English, Street Vendors, Form, Language Function.

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini ialah untuk (1) mengidentifikasi penggunaan ciri-ciri leksikogramatika yang ada pada iklan situs web hotel bintang lima di Bali, dan (2) menemukan persamaan serta perbedaan diantara iklan situs web hotel bintang lima di Bali terkait dengan ciri-ciri leksikogramatika. Data dalam penelitian ini berupa teks yang dikumpulkan dan diseleksi dari sepuluh iklan situs web hotel termasuk spa dan resor bintang lima di Bali. Data tersebut dianalisa secara deskriptif menggunakan kerangka Halliday dan Matthiessen. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa dalam ranah sistem transitivitas, proses material mendominasi di setiap iklan situs web hotel bintang lima di Bali yang telah terseleksi, diikuti dengan proses relasional. Hasil dari analisis unsur sirkumstansial menunjukkan bahwa sirkumstansi lokasi merupakan unsur sirkumstansial yang paling sering muncul. Sedangkan, dalam ranah sistem mode, tipe mode deklarasi mendominasi kalimat-kalimat di setiap iklan situs web hotel bintang lima di Bali yang telah terseleksi. Lebih jauh lagi, ada pula tipe mode suruhan yang ditemukan pada sepuluh iklan situs web hotel bintang lima di Bali tersebut. Secara mengkhusus, terdapat banyak modal verbal yang ditemukan iklan-iklan tersebut. Hasil penelitian ini mengindikasikan bahwa kesepuluh iklan situs web hotel bintang lima di Bali tersebut secara menciri bertujuan untuk menginformasikan, menuntun, mengingatkan dan juga membujuk para pembaca yang dalam hal ini adalah para tamu hotel.Kata Kunci : unsur-unsur leksikogramatika, situs web hotel, iklan This study aimed at (1) identifying the use of lexicogrammatical features in five stars hotel website advertisements in Bali, and (2) finding out the similarities and the differences among the five stars hotel website advertisements in Bali in terms of lexicogrammatical features. The study involved ten selected five stars hotel website advertisements in Bali. The data were in the forms of texts collected from the ten five stars hotels including resort and spa website advertisements in Bali. The data were analyzed descriptively through Hallidays and Matthiessens framework, specifically focusing on transitivity system and mood system. The result showed that, in terms of transitivity system, material processes seemed dominated in every selected website advertisement, followed by relational processes. The result of circumstantial elements analysis showed that circumstances of location was the most frequent circumstantial element. Meanwhile, in terms of mood system, declarative mood types dominated in every selected five stars hotel website advertisement in Bali. Moreover, there were imperatives found on the ten selected hotel website advertisement. Specifically, there were numerous modal verbs found in the advertisements. The result of this study indicated that the ten selected five stars hotel website advertisements were characteristically meant to inform, guide, remind, as well as persuade the readers who were the hotels guests.keyword : lexicogrammatical features, hotel website, advertisement

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis materi pembelajaran yang direncanakan dalam buku teks siswa yang berjudul "When English Rings a Bell", dan dalam rencana pembelajaran untuk siswa kelas tujuh, dan penerapan materi pembelajaran dalam kegiatan belajar mengajar. Bahan pembelajaran dianalisis dalam hal jenis tindak tutur utama dan spesifik serta penggunaan tindak tutur dan tempat tindak tutur. Subjek penelitian ini terdiri dari rencana pelajaran, buku siswa, dan seorang guru bahasa Inggris. Desain penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif. Data dikumpulkan dari dokumen, wawancara, dan observasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan sebagai berikut. Pertama, bahan yang didasarkan pada 2013 Kurikulum seperti yang direncanakan dalam buku siswa yaitu: directive dengan sub tipe questioning dan ordering, assertive dengan sub tipe stating dan describing, commisisve dengan sub tipe offering, eexpressive dengan sub tipe greeting, thanking, apologizing, feeling, dan taking leave. Fungsi tindak tutur yaitu interactional, personal, heuristik, instrumental, informative, dan attention getting. Tempat tindak tutur yaitu formal, informal, dan non-formal. Jenis tindak tutur utama dan spesifik serta penggunaan tindak tutur dan tempat tindak tutur dalam buku sama seperti dalam rencana pembelajaran. Kedua, materi pembelajaran dilaksanakan sepenuhnya didasarkan pada rencana pelajaran. Hasil menyiratkan bahwa asertif, direktif, commisive dan ekspresif harus direncanakan dalam bahan dan guru belajar harus menumbuhkan kompetensi komunikatif siswa dan berusaha untuk memberikan mereka kesempatan lebih untuk berlatih menggunakan tindak tutur dalam Bahasa Inggris.Kata Kunci : Rencana Pembelajaran, Materi Pembelajaran, Tindak Tutur The objectives of this study were to analyze the learning materials planned in the students’ textbook entitled “When English Rings a Bell”, and in the lesson plans for the seventh grade students, and the implementation of the learning materials in the teaching learning activity. The learning materials were analyzed in the terms of the main and specific speech act types as well as speech use and speech setting. Subjects studied consisted of lesson plan, students’ book, and the English teacher. The design of this study was descriptive qualitative. The data were collected from document, interview, and observation. The results show the following. First, learning materials based on the 2013 Curriculum as planned in the students’ book namely: directive with the sub type questioning and ordering, assertive with the sub type stating and describing, commisisve with the sub type offering, expressive with the sub type greeting, thanking, apologizing, feeling, and taking leave. The speech uses were interactional, personal, heuristic, instrumental, informative, and attention getting. The settings were formal, informal, and non-formal. These speech acts, specific speech acts, speech use, and speech setting were found are same as in lesson plans. Second, the learning material implemented wholly based on the lesson plans. The results imply that assertive, directive, commisive and expressive should planned in learning materials and teacher should cultivate the students’ communicative competence and attempt to give them opportunities to practice more English speech acts. keyword : Lesson Plans, Learning Materials, Speech Acts
