Abstract

Study technology is a student-centered learning technique that helps the learner to study successfully by providing solutions to all barricades come upon in the progression of studying. This study designed a model on study technology with the barriers that hinder students from studying effectively, the psychological reactions as well as the solutions to the barriers. The study is a position paper which directs the author to review some materials. The findings established that the major barriers to successful study are absence of mass, misunderstood words, obscurity and skipping gradient. In addition, the proffered solutions to the barriers include use of learning materials, use of dictionary, applying mnemonics and adopting a systematic learning style. The study concluded that with study technology, 100% performance is achievable. It was however recommended that students at all levels should assist themselves by adopting the study technology principles.

Abstract

Advances in information technology have led to innovative learning methods that combine traditional and online learning, known as blended learning. This pre-experimental study aims to analyze the effectiveness of blended learning in increasing prospective physics teacher students’ learning motivation and problem-solving ability. There were 14 students who participated in this study. Theywere involved in 70% of face-to-face learning and 30% in online learning. The data of learning motivation were collected by the questioner and the data of problem-solving ability were collected by test. The research hypotheses were tested by non-parametric statistics, namely the sign test. The results of the study indicate that the pre-test score mean of learning motivation was 67.21 (SD= 5.45), which was in the medium level and the post-test score mean was 74.98 (SD=5.93), which was at a high level. The pre-test score means of problem-solving was 33. 43 (SD = 4.90) which was at a low-level and the post-test score mean was 63.54 (SD =2.35), which was at a moderate level. The one side sign test shows the calculated ZC= 3.43, which was higher than standard Z at a 5% significance level. The mean score of prospective physics teacher students’ learning motivation and problem-solving ability between before and after learning was significantly different. From this finding can be concluded that blended learning effective in increasing  prospective physics teacher students’ learning motivation and problem-solving ability.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the Problem Based Learning (PBL) learning model to develop learning motivation and learning outcomes in citizenship education learning. The use of PBL models in this study aims to help students develop investigative skills to be able to solve the problem at hand. The method in this study uses a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method and is used in the pre-test and post-test design groups. The subjects in this study were 34 students in SMP Negeri 6 Yogyakarta. The data analysis technique used "t" test with SPSS 16 assistance program and N-gain score test. The results of this study indicate that the PBL learning model on the values of the Pancasila material as a basis for the country and the national outlook on life significantly influence student motivation and learning outcomes. In this case, the PBL model can develop learning motivation and learning outcomes in the medium category.

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the demonstration of linguistic, cognitive, and socio-cultural dimensions of academic literacy in the written texts produced by the students of the nursing program. A descriptive qualitative research design was used to meet the purpose of the study. Data were collected from the students’ written texts, which served as the students’ responses to an English quiz. Fifteen out of fifty-two students’ written texts were randomly selected for the analysis. A modified scale table from the existing literature was used as a guideline during the analysis. This scale describes an assessment of the three dimensions of literacy: linguistic, cognitive, and socio-cultural. The results of the analysis showed that, in general, the students had a fair level of linguistic, cognitive, and socio-cultural dimensions of literacy. They could partially use layouts, punctuations, capitalizations, verb conjugations, and agreement as well as spelling. They also seemed to be familiar with some types of texts and generic structures, as well as linguistic features. However, there was evidence that students provided a less complete response and sometimes irrelevant information as well as an inconsistent interpretation of the subject of the text. This study indicates a high need for nursing students to improve their ability in academic literacy in English. As academic literacy is not a natural phenomenon, instead a learned ability, it should be developed and fostered in the educational institutions.

Abstract

Online learning changes learning habits from face to face to distance learning. The purpose of the study is to measure the character index of mathematics and science student teachers in online learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. The study used mixed methods, collecting and analyzing quantitative data through questionnaires targeting Mathematics and Science student teachers, followed by qualitative data through interviews. The questionnaire used a Likert five scale option. The number of research targets was 340 student teachers with 224 women and 116 men. The results obtained are four indicators of mathematics and science student teachers characters in online learning that are less than optimal, consisting of beginning and ending lectures by praying, attendance, and politeness while optimal in the timeliness indicator collecting assignments with an index of 4.40 from a maximum index of 5.00. The study concludes that online learning has an impact on the character index of student teachers.
