Abstract

Abstract: The combination of music and the internet music change the mindset of the music producers and the conventional recording label. Internet label (netlabel) gives new hope for the development of modern music and potentially as an agent of cultural change. The internet music is free and widely distributed. This paper analyzes the phenomenon of one Indonesian netlabel, YesNoWave, by using several new media theories. Sharing culture that embedded in this current communication technology brings Indonesian music to a new phase that enhances the possibility for many people to participate in the culture development process that exceed the local limits.Abstrak: Musik yang menyatu dengan internet (musik internet) mengubah resep laku produser dan label rekaman konvensional. Kehadiran internet label (netlabel) memberi harapan baru bagi perkembangan musik modern dan sekaligus berpotensi menjadi agen perubahan budaya. Musik yang dirilis melalui internet, dengan semangat berbagi, didistribusikan secara bebas. Tulisan ini menganalisis fenomena salah satu netlabel Indonesia, YesNoWave, dengan menggunakan beberapa teori media baru. Budaya berbagi melalui teknologi komunikasi mutakhir ini mengantarkan musik Indonesia memasuki babak baru. Sebuah babak yang memberikan kemungkinan luar biasa bagi banyak orang untuk berpartisipasi dalam proses pembangunan dan pengolahan budaya dengan daya jangkauan melampaui batas lokal.

Abstract

Abstract: In this article, I discuss the idea about how Information and Communication Technologies – particularly the internet- can be developed as a tool to support independent learning. From my point of view, both new media and education are closely connected. Moreover, the internet has several functions that might be explored for academic purposes. Although there are some possibilities of using internet as a tool to learn English, it might not be easy to implement this idea in Indonesian universities because of various problems caused by cultural background, educational institution, government, community, also student’s and teacher’s perspectives. This paper explains these complexities in five parts: introduction; literature review; analysis; solutions; and conclusions which all are connected to the concepts of language, culture and identity.

Abstract

In the convergence era, television audience has become interactive audience. Study about television audience become important, especially in favorite program, such as sinetron (Indonesian soap opera). Netnography method is used to examine the social network dynamics of 7 Manusia Harimau audience. After conducting online participatory observation in two fandom groups and in-depth interviews with seven informants, the results show that media convergence has broaden the way audience consume sinetron and enhanced the audiences’ interactivity. Online media support the audience to develop individual and communal network, collective identity and intelligence, collective actions and participatory culture.

Abstract

The lack of digital media literacy education shall become requirement to the rises of horribly phenomenon in Indonesia. The purpose of this study is to create the awareness on using social media smartly.  I used qualitative method that had been taken through purposive sampling. Since the Collaborative Learning Model of Digital Media Literacy was applied, students mindset about Digital Media Literacy meaning had shifted into the wiser social media users.

Abstract

Abstract: This research attempts to analyze the differences of Public Relations (PR) function in local election (Pilkada). Pilkada is a democratic process in Indonesia. Government needs big participation of society, as one successful point of pilkada is participation of society. Effort to bring public politics participation cannot be separate from politics socialization process. Socialization process is public attitude establishment and politics orientation process. Pilkada socialization carried out by KPUD (Komisi Pemilihan Umum Daerah) as executor. To make an effective socialization to public, KPUD needs to use specific function called Public Relation. Communication activity between organization and its public divided into some part of PR function, including publicity, advertising, press agentry, lobbying, issue management, investor relation and public affair. Basically, implementation of PR function in the process of PILKADA may be different in each region. It becomes the reason why author want to compare KPUD Yogyakarta and Bantul. Governance system differences among both regions would affect in government’s socialization policy. Those differences depend on population, social classes, demographic condition and personal motivation. It is also effecting in PR function held by government, as in media and in society as target operation

Abstract

Abstract: Images have the power to create natural representation of reality, vividness in human memory and have rhetorical effect. However, visual rhetoric can create positive and negative feeling to persuade people. Negative feelings can be designed to make emotional reactions and spark action. Consequently, humans will consider ways to deal with the negative and discomfort feelings. In this paper, the writer analyzes the connection between visual rhetoric and emotional appeal by examining the controversial PETA video “Meet your Meat”. The writer will use the visual rhetoric, emotions, and cognitive dissonance theory to analyze the video and increase the understanding about the human emotions, especially disgust and guilt.Abstrak: Gambar memiliki kekuatan untuk menciptakan gambaran realitas yang alami, membuat kejelasan dalam ingatan manusia dan memiliki efek retoris. Namun, retorika visual dapat menciptakan perasaan positif dan negatif untuk membujuk orang. Perasaan negatif dapat dirancang untuk membuat reaksi emosional dan memicu tindakan. Akibatnya, manusia akan mempertimbangkan cara-cara untuk mengatasi perasaan-perasaan negatif dan ketidaknyamanan. Dalam tulisan ini, penulis akan menganalisis hubungan antara retorika visual dan daya tarik emosional dengan mengkaji video kontroversial PETA “Meet your Meat”. Penulis akan menggunakan teori retorika visual, emosi, dan disonansi kognitif untuk menganalisis video dan meningkatkan pemahaman tentang emosi manusia, terutama perasaan jijik dan rasa bersalah.

Abstract: Alfred Schutz phenomenology is one of the important thougt in phenomenology development as philosophical movement. Simultantly, Schutz’s phenomenology critizes and modifies Husserl concept of phenomenology and Weber concept of ideal type actions.This paper uses Friedrich concept to give a map of mode scientist in order to clarify Schutz phenomenological position in development of social science. In context of social science Schutz phenomenology position implies to qualitative methods research especially in observation structure to the object of research social emphasize by phenomenology.

Abstract

Abstract : This paper discusses how science (scientist) and policy (government) collaborate on the bird flu case in Bali Indonesia and the importance of public participation in dealing with the case. It is concluded that the collaboration between science and policy in the bird flu case in Bali Indonesia has not well practiced. There is a gap and conflict between them because they have different analytical paradigm, interest, and point of view. Public participation is very important because it can encourage them to set up quick response mechanism and increase public awareness of the danger of the virus. So they can stop the spread of the virus by themselves

Abstract

Artikel ini membahas tentang wawancara (dengan), tulisan, dan karya sastra oleh para penulis wanita migran di Australia yang berasal dari negara-negara di Asia Tenggara. Tulisan ini meneliti kehidupan para penulis ketika tinggal di Australia, yang memiliki perbedaan budaya, sosial dan politik dengan negara asli mereka. Menggunakan gagasan cultural identity and diaspora dari Stuart Hall dan conditional hospitality dari Jaques Derrida, artikel ini mengungkap peran penting penulis migran dalam menjembatani perbedaan antara budaya timur dan barat. Analisis artikel menunjukkan bahwa identitas budaya mereka berubah untuk memperkecil jarak perbedaan dan proses perubahan ini terwujud dalam tulisan mereka.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui relasi antara peluang counter-hegemony dengan dominasi logika industri musik. Perspektif ekonomi politik dan budaya industri digunakan dalam melakukan penelitian ini. Sebagai penelitian kualitatif kritis, digunakan metode studi kasus dengan cara observasi dan studi dokumentasi. Temuan dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa Netlabel dapat dikategorikan sebagai counter-hegemony yang berhubungan dengan dominasi logika industri musik. Sebagai counter-hegemony, Netlabel didukung oleh pengaruh fenomena pertumbuhan internet dan media baru.
