Abstract

This project is intended to analyze, design and implement a realtime sound source localization system by using a mobile robot as the media. The implementated system uses 2 microphones as the sensors, Arduino Duemilanove microcontroller system with ATMega328p as the microprocessor, two permanent magnet DC motors as the actuators for the mobile robot and a servo motor as the actuator to rotate the webcam directing to the location of the sound source, and a laptop/PC as the simulation and display media. In order to achieve the objective of finding the position of a specific sound source, beamforming theory is applied to the system. Once the location of the sound source is detected and determined, the choice is either the mobile robot will adjust its position according to the direction of the sound source or only webcam will rotate in the direction of the incoming sound simulating the use of this system in a video conference. The integrated system has been tested and the results show the system could localize in realtime a sound source placed randomly on a half circle area (0 - 1800) with a radius of 0.3m - 3m, assuming the system is the center point of the circle. Due to low ADC and processor speed, achievable best angular resolution is still limited to 25o.

Abstract

The use of biometrics as an automatic recognition system is growing rapidly in solving security problems; palmprint is one of biometric system which often used. This paper used two steps in center of mass moment method for region of interest (ROI) segmentation and apply the time series method combined with block window method as feature representation. Normalized Euclidean Distance is used to measure the similarity degrees of two feature vectors of palm print. System testing is done using 500 samples palms, with 4 samples as the reference image and the 6 samples as test images. Experiment results show this system can achieve a high performance with success rate about 97.33% (FNMR=1.67%, FMR=1.00 %, T=0.036).

Abstract

Selection of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system is a complex decision-making process and one of the critical success factors (CSFs) in ERP adoption life cycle. Many ERP implementation failures are caused by improper package selection. Various approaches have been used, but not using optimization techniques. This study developed a Fuzzy-Multiobjective Genetic Algorithm (Fuzzy-MOGA) approach to optimize the quality of ERP selection criteria that complies with ISO25010 quality standard and cost. A case study was conducted on an agro-industrial company. The result shows the approach of Fuzzy-MOGA with NSGA-II method facilitate a complex decision-making for ERP selection optimally.

Abstract

Coordination between a specific mobile robot type has been widely investigated, e.g coordination between unicycles. To extend the applicability of the system, a coordinated trajectory tracking of mixed type of mobile robots is considered. We prove that if a certain type of wheeled mobile robot is able to individually track its own reference, then coordination in tracking with other type of robots can be achieved simply by sharing individual tracking errors. Using two types of wheeled mobile robots, namely unicycle type (a nonholonomic mobile robot) and omni wheels type (a holonomic mobile robot), a coordinated control algorithm can achieve a global asymptotically stable condition of the error dynamics of the systems. Under bidirectional communication between robots as a constraint, the group is able to maintain individual tracking while coordinating the movements with other robots regardless occurring perturbations in the system and delays in communication channels. Simulation results suggest that information sharing between the robots increase the robustness in coordinating individual trajectories. Results also show that delays cause drop in performance similar to the case of no information sharing.

Abstract

Using cable as power transmission medium cause problem in flexibility and aesthetics. Wireless power transmission for charging handphone releasednowadays still using antenna with radiation pattern focus in one direction, that is just toward the top, and if the antenna was shifted then power transmitted will be lose. The purpose of this research is to produce wireless power charger system used for charging handphone power using resonator based on omnidirectional antenna and test the performance. The device in this research was designed in two main part, that is transmitter and receiver. In transmission section, there is power supply used for supplying power to oscillator to generate oscillating signal in the form of electrical power to be transmitted to receiver via antenna in the form magnetic field. In receiver section, receiver antenna received the power transmitted that is still in the reach of magnetic field generated by transmitter. The power that is still in the form of oscillating signal, then stabilized for the purpose of handphone power using rectifier and voltage regulator. Design has been made successfully to the form of handphone battery power wireless chargerusing omdirectional antenna which consist of two main part, that is transmitter and receiver. The transmitted power is 3.058 watt with frequency 714 KHz, and receiver received the power and then stabilized the signal to produce output power 58.706 miliwatt. This device can transmit power in all directions horizontally (angle 360°). This device also tested with some kind of obstacle, with the result almost all obstacle still could transmit the power except metal.

Abstract

A state of a perfect video game is what developers has been seeking for their product developments, to achieve the selected state, several standards and methods needs to be applied. These standards and methods are special: they are both verifiable and quantifiable, to make their action and end goal a clear one, the terms for this standards and methods are called ‘game metrics’ and we decided that this is a must-have tool or method to be implanted in a development of a game because it will boost your standards rapidly and will be able to tell you about your own progress of the development.

Abstract

Fear of darkness is a common psychological problem that may extent to a specific phobia if it is not treated well. Several intervention techniques related to fear and phobia using actual exposure therapy have been studied for decades, however, there were some constraints emerged when the therapist provides a real environment to overcome the patient's reaction to his/her specific fear. Virtual reality (VR) technology is an innovative tool providing a more immersive, secure, personal, and controlled virtual environment. Therefore, we developed a novel framework for treating the fear of darkness named Mobile-assisted Virtual Reality (MAVR). The purpose of this study was to evaluate the use of MAVR to treat fear of darkness based on usability, time consumption and its ability to decrease fear. We used the GOMS model as an interaction guidance between human and computer which aimed to facilitate the process of re-learning in mindset change and individual’s behavioral toward situation of darkness and night. Therefore, a comprehensive evaluation was conducted to measure the efficacy of the MAVR. We developed the usability assessment checklist to assess the feasibility and acceptability of the MAVR, and fear of darkness thermometer to measure the degree of fear. The Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test showed that the fear of darkness was significantly decreased after participants received the MAVR therapy (z=-3.550, p-value<0.001). We found that the MAVR was very useful, easy to be used and acceptable for participants. In conclusion, this study highlights the efficacy of Mobile-assisted Virtual Reality in treating specific fear, and it seems that Virtual Reality technology has a promising benefit to be implemented for other fear or specific phobia and also used in other psychological treatment.

Abstract

An enhanced sensor based on symmetrical split ring resonator (SSRR) functioning at microwave frequencies has been proposed in order to detect and characterize the metal crack of the materials. This sensor is based on perturbation theory, in which the dielectric properties of the material affect the quality factor and resonance frequency of the microwave resonator. Conventionally, coaxial cavity, waveguide, dielectric resonator techniques have been used for characterizing materials. However, these techniques are often large, and expensive to build, which restricts their use in many important applications. Thus, the enhanced bio-sensing technique presents advantages such as high measurement sensitivity with the capability of suppressing undesired harmonic spurious and permits potentially metal crack material detection. Hence, using a High Frequency Structure Simulator (HFSS) software, the enhanced sensor is modeled and the reflection S11 is performed for testing the aluminum metal with crack and without crack at the frequency range of 100 MHz to 3GHz. Variation of crack width and depth has been investigated and the most obvious finding emerged from this study is that the ability of detecting a minimum of sub-millimeter crack width and depth which is a round 10 ????m width or depth where the minimum shift of reflected frequency is recorded at 6.2 MHz and 3 MHz for crack width and depth respectively. The enhanced SSRR provides high capability of detecting small crack defection by utilizing the interaction between coupled gap resonators and it is useful for various applications such as aircraft fuselages, nuclear power plant steam generator tubing, and steel bridges and for others that can be compromised by metal fatigue.

Abstract

In recent years, using full-duplex (FD) transmission model provides enhanced bandwidth efficiency and improved performance for non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) system. However, lack of papers have investigated FD relay together with relay selection issue to improve performance of NOMA system. The problems in power allocation for two NOMA users satisfying fairness as well as relay selection strategy are studied in this paper. By considering the outage performance of proposed scheme with its vital result, general NOMA wireless networks can be developed for future networks due to its improved performance. Simulation results show that the relaying selection scheme can achieve a significant performance improvement by increasing required quantity of relay.

Abstract

Unlike 3-phase squirrel cage induction motor, starting-up of 3-phase wound rotor counter part can be improved by adding an external resistance to the rotor circuit. Thus, leads to reduce starting current and increase starting torque. In this paper two controllers for 3-phase wound rotor induction motor have been proposed include conventional proportional integral derivative (PID)  controller and the other based on artificial neural network (NARMA-L2). A comparison between these controllers has been conducted. It has been shown that starting torque of the motor has been improved, when utilizing the neural network controller compared to the conventional counter  part. It should be noted that MATLAB/SIMULINK has been used to implement both controllers.
