Abstract

In this paper, we propose a multiple moving obstacles avoidance using stereo vision for service robots in indoor environments. We assume that this model of service robot is used to deliver a cup to the recognized customer from the starting point to the destination.  The contribution of this research is a new method for multiple moving obstacle avoidance with Bayesian approach using stereo camera.  We have developed and introduced 3 main modules to recognize faces, to identify multiple moving obstacles and to maneuver of robot. A group of people who is walking  will be tracked as a multiple moving obstacle, and  the speed, direction, and distance of the moving obstacles is  estimated by a stereo camera in order that the robot can maneuver to avoid the collision.  To overcome the inaccuracies of vision sensor, Bayesian approach is used for estimate the absense and direction of obstacles. We present the results of the experiment of the service robot called Srikandi III which uses our proposed method and we also evaluate its performance. Experiments shown that our proposed method working well, and Bayesian approach proved increasing the estimation perform for absence and direction of moving obstacle.

Abstract

For getting the useful object information from infrared image and mining more detail of low light level (LLL) image, we propose a new fusion method based on segmentation and enhancement methods in the paper. First, using 2D maximum entropy method to segment the original infrared image for extracting infrared target, enhancing original LLL image by Zadeh transform for mining more detail information, on the basis of the segmented map to fuse the enhanced LLL image and original infrared image. Then, original infrared image, the enhanced LLL image and the first fused image are used to realize fusion in non-subsampled contourlet transform (NSCT) domain, we get the second fused image. By contrast of experiments, the fused image of the second fused method’s visual effect is better than other methods’ from the literature. Finally, Objective evaluation is used to evaluate the fused images’ quality, its results also show that the proposed method can pop target information, improve fused image’s resolution and contrast.

Abstract

Abstract

Service Engineering (SE) and Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) originally reside on different plateaus of discipline. SE is defined as a set of activity introducing a new business service, while SOA is a technical approach to redefine an enterprise business processes as a set of IT enabled services. This paper proposes a SOA embedded SE framework as a comprehensive approach in re-defining business service and its IT implementation. After an introduction, a review of existing SE frameworks and SOA methodologies is presented in the paper. Afterward, a complete SE framework is proposed with several results on early case studies. A survey results are then presented to prove the usability and benefit of the proposed framework. The framework is designed and proposed to help practitioners and researchers to conduct service engineering by employing principles and methodology offered by SOA approach.

Abstract

The transmission of image compression by vector quantization produce wrong blocks in received image which are completely different to the original one that makes the restoration process too hard because we don’t have any information about the original blocks. As a solution of this problem we try to keep the maximum of pixels that form the original block by building new blocks. Our proposition is based on decomposition and interleaving. For the simulation we use a binary symmetric channel with different BER and in the restoration process we use simple median filter just to check the efficiency of proposed approach.

Abstract

Oscillatory condition on power system (low-frequency oscillation) is one of the important factors to determine the quality of the power system. With the increasing number of load demand, this condition is getting worse in recent years. Hence, utilizing addition devices to maintain and mitigate the oscillatory condition of power system is crucial. This paper proposed a method to mitigate power system oscillation by installing one of the flexible AC transmission system (FACTS) devices called solid phase shifter (SPS) and energy storage devices called capacitor energy storage (CES). To analyze the performance of power system with SPS and CES, the eigenvalue and damping ratio analysis are used. Time domain simulation is also investigated to analyze the dynamic behaviors of power system considering SPS and CES. Furthermore, increasing number of load demand is carried out to analyze how much load can be increased without increasing power to the grid. From the simulation, it is found that SPS and CES can mitigate low-frequency oscillation on power system indicated by highest damping, smallest overshoot, and fastest settling time. It is also found that load demand can be increased significantly when SPS and CES installed to the system.

Abstract

The focus of this research is the application of electronic control on the distillation boiler of nutmeg oil. The control system is based on fuzzy logic and as the input parameter is temperature and vapor pressure. The temperature parameters are set in the range 80-120ºC, and the vapor pressure parameters are set in the range of 1-2.5 atmospheres. The output parameter is the time required in the distillation process. The optimal values of these input and output parameters are embedded in microcontroller based control. The control responds to the temperature and vapor pressure to select the gas flow rate at the distillation boiler. This experiment was conducted on a distillation system with a capacity of 25 kg of crushed dried nutmeg, manually and with control based on fuzzy logic. Conventional testing requires 6.90 kg of gas and applying fuzzy logic based control requires 5.50 kg of gas. The yield of nutmeg oil from the distillation process is 2.5 kg conventionally and 2.63 kg with fuzzy logic control. Based on the optimal time of 16 hours distillation process, there was a decrease of gas consumption by 20.3%.

Abstract

In forestry sector, the remote sensing technology hold a key role on forest inventory and monitoring their changes. This paper describes the algorithm for detecting deforestation and forest degradation using high resolution satellite imageries with knowledge-based approach. The main objective of the study is to develop a practical technique for monitoring deforestation and forest degradation occurred within the mangrove and swamp forest ecosystem.  The SPOT 4, 5, and 6 images acquired in 2007, 2012 and 2014 were transformed into three vegetation indices, i.e., Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), Green-Normalized Difference Vegetation index (GNDVI) and Normalized Green-Red Vegetation index (NRGI).  The study found that deforestation was well detected and identified using the NDVI and GNDVI, however the forest degradation could be well detected using NRGI, better than NDVI and GNDVI.  The study concludes that the strategy for monitoring deforestation, biomass-based forest degradation as well as forest growth could be done by combining the use of NDVI, GNDVI and NRGI respectively.

Abstract

The modern state of electrical system consists the conventional generating units along with the sources of renewable energy. The proposed article recommends a method for the solution of single and multi-objective optimal power flow, integrating wind and solar output energy with traditional coal-based generating stations. In the first part of the article, the two wind power plants and one solar PV power plants are incorporated with the thermal power plants. The optimal power flow problem of single and conflicting multi-objectives are taken with this scenario. The second part of the paper, solar power plant is replaced with another wind power plant with the conventional coal-based power plants. The techno-economic analysis are done with this state of electrical system. In proposed work, lognormal and weibull probability distribution functions are also utilized for predicting solar and wind outputs, respectively. A non-dominated multi-objective moth flame optimization technique is used for the optimization issue. The fuzzy decision-making approach is applied for extracting the best compromise solution. The results are validated though adapted IEEE-30 bus test system, which is incorporated with wind and solar generating plants.
