Abstract

A novel AC-DC quadratic boost converter (QBC) topology is presented in this paper which can provide higher power factor (PF), lower total harmonic distortion (THD) and higher voltage when compared to a conventional AC-DC boost convertero This is achieved by using additional switched capacitor and switched inductor in the power processing stage. The presented converter is analyzed theoretically, and a voltage gain equation is derived. A simulation model is created to evaluate the converter performance under various duty cycles, switching frequency, and changing output load. The input PF, THD, and voltage gain of the simulated model were compared with conventional converter to determine the validity of the suggested converter circuit. The results show that the efficiency, PF, THD and voltage gain value reaches approximately 97.9%, 0.98, 16.14, and 2.83 respectively at a duty cycle of 50% with fixed output load of 100 Ω. A dual loop voltage and current controller is also arrayed with the proposed circuit which allows further enhancement in PF (0.997) and THD (7.45%). This converter can be a suitable option for systems where isolation is not necessary but high PF, high voltage gain and low THD are required.

Abstract

This paper investigates the state and actuator fault reconstruction problem in a class of switched linear systems subjected to unknown external disturbances according to average dwell time (ADT) technique. First, a robust switched sliding mode observer (SMO) is developed to simultaneously reconstruct the states of the switched system and the actuator faults. A novel and less conservative sufficient stability conditions are then established using the multiple quadratic Lyapunov function technique and the ADT approach. These conditions are formulated as linear matrix inequalities (LMI) to facilitate the design of the SMO. The observer gains matrices are obtained throughout the resolution of LMI using convex optimization techniques. Next, actuator faults are estimated by utilizing the concept of equivalent output injection, achieved through an analysis of the state error dynamics during the sliding motion. Finally, simulation results are considered to illustrate the applicability and efficiency of the developed method. It showcases the rapid and accurate convergence of the estimated system states and actuator fault to the real variables.

Abstract

This paper proposes a non-communication power management plan for a renewable solar-photovoltaic (PV) hybrid direct current (DC) microgrid consisting of batteries and supercapacitors (SCs). An effective control strategy for bidirectional converters has been proposed for power supply and load generation at different operating modes and state of charge (SOC) limits of the hybrid energy storage system (HESS). The battery and SC combination provides power to the load during normal or peak operating hours. The proposed hybrid power management system was tested under uneven load and generation using MATLAB. The proposed control enhanced the operation of microgrids by utilizing HESS with a novel control strategy based on the SOC. Seamless mode switches among different operating modes are also presented in this paper. This approach ensures stable current control, minimizes charging-discharging mode changes, mitigates the risk of overcharging and over-discharging batteries, extends battery service life, and balances the SOC across different energy storage units. Consequently, this strategy enhances the operational stability and economic efficiency of the DC microgrid. The proposed methodology provided better power allocation and improved the life of the battery.

Abstract

An arrhythmia is an irregular heartbeat. Many researchers in the AI field have carried out the automatic classification of arrhythmias, and the issue that has been widely discussed is imbalanced data. A popular technique for overcoming this problem is the synthetic minority oversampling technique (SMOTE) technique. In this paper, the author adds some sampling of data obtained from other datasets into the primary dataset. In this case, the main dataset is the Massachusetts Institute of Technology–Beth Israel Hospital (MIT-BIH) arrhythmia database and an additional dataset from the MIT-BIH supraventricular arrhythmia database. The classification process is carried out with one-dimensional convolutional neural network model (1D-CNN) to perform multiclass and subject-class advancement of medical instrumentation (AAMII) classifications. The results obtained from this study are an accuracy of 99.10% for multiclass and 99.25% for subject-class.

Abstract

This study introduces an advanced method for evaluating non-blind watermarking quality, leveraging both visible and invisible watermarking techniques grounded in principles of discrete cosine transform (DCT) and modified singular value decomposition (M-SVD). The primary focus is to refine the assessment process of watermarked images by integrating M-SVD, known for its efficacy in measuring image quality and watermarking performance. Results from the M-SVD implementation exhibit a striking resemblance to the original images. The mean squared error (MSE) values for watermarked images range from 0.0003 to 0.0168, while peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR) values vary between 42.52 dB and 82.72 dB. These outcomes underscore the potential of DCT and M-SVD techniques in bolstering watermarking processes, especially in invisible watermarking contexts.

Abstract

Communication systems at millimeter-wave (mm-wave) frequencies with high propagation losses use radio frequency (RF) budget analysis. RF system gains and losses ensure the receiver can recover the broadcast signal. Modern communication systems use compressive sensing (CS) and discrete wavelet transform (DWT). Hardware implementation is hard. Fieldprogrammable gate arrays (FPGA) adaptability, configurability, and processing speed make them popular. More mm-wave transceivers use FPGAs and advanced signal processing. FPGA-based mm-wave transceivers use compressed sensing and dual-tree complex wavelet transform (DTCWT). RF budget analysis recovers receiver signals. Energy and data efficiency transceivers have baseband processors, transmitters, and receivers. RF-to-mm-wave transmitter. Receiver demodulation and baseband conversion. CS and DTCWT processing modules boost baseband signal processing 5 Gbps Xilinx virtex-6 FPGAs. The system retrieves the signal while conserving power, according to simulations and testing. This study found that FPGA-based mm-wave transceivers can use advanced signal processing in future high-speed communication systems.

Abstract

Unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) have gained significant popularity in recent years due to their ability to capture high-resolution aerial imagery for various applications, including traffic monitoring, urban planning, and disaster management. Accurate road and vehicle segmentation from UAV imagery plays a crucial role in these applications. In this paper, we propose a novel approach combining dual attention mechanisms and efficient multi-layer feature aggregation to enhance the performance of road and vehicle segmentation from UAV imagery. Our approach integrates a spatial attention mechanism and a channel-wise attention mechanism to enable the model to selectively focus on relevant features for segmentation tasks. In conjunction with these attention mechanisms, we introduce an efficient multi-layer feature aggregation method that synthesizes and integrates multi-scale features at different levels of the network, resulting in a more robust and informative feature representation. Our proposed method is evaluated on the UAVid semantic segmentation dataset, showcasing its exceptional performance in comparison to renowned approaches such as U-Net, DeepLabv3+, and SegNet. The experimental results affirm that our approach surpasses these state-of-the-art methods in terms of segmentation accuracy.

Abstract

Bibliographic databases are used to measure the performance of researchers, universities and research institutions. Thus, high data quality is required and data duplication is avoided. One of the weaknesses of the threshold-based approach in duplication detection is the low accuracy level. Therefore, another approach is required to improve duplication detection. This study proposes a method that combines threshold-based and rule-based approaches to perform duplication detection. These two approaches are implemented in the comparison stage. The cosine similarity function is used to create weight vectors from the features. Then, the comparison operator is used to determine whether the pair of records are grouped as duplication or not. Three research databases: Web of Science (WoS), Scopus, and Google Scholar (GS) on the Science and Technology Index (SINTA) database are investigated. Rule 4 and Rule 5 provide the best performance. For WoS dataset, the accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-measure values were 100.00%. For Scopus dataset, the accuracy and precision values were 100.00%, recall: 98.00%, and the F1-measure value is 98.00%. For GS dataset, the accuracy value was 100.00%, precision: 99.00%, recall: 97.00%, and the F1-measure value is 98.00%. The proposed method is potential tool for accurate detection on duplication records in publication databases.

Abstract

Vehicular ad hoc networks (VANETs) provide a robust infrastructure for intelligent transportation system (ITS) applications. VANET communication involves vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-infrastructure connections, primarily with roadside units (RSUs). Analyzing cognitive radio (CR)-VANET studies revealed two key performance issues: high energy consumption and latency. To address these challenges, we propose a novel approach: link stability and mobility prediction-based clustered CR-VANETs, known as LMCCR-VANET. LMCCR-VANET consists of four main components: CR-VANET construction, clustering model, speed-based mobility prediction, and link-based multipath routing. Initially, we establish cluster-based CR-VANETs to analyze and mitigate spectrum scarcity and power utilization problems in VANETs. Mobility prediction evaluates vehicle speed variations and predictions. Finally, employing link stability-based multipath routing (LSMR) in conjunction with the fuzzy interference model and ad hoc on-demand multipath distance vector (AOMDV) routing protocol ensures stable and efficient routing. Experimental results showcase the superiority of LMCCR-VANET. It exhibits enhanced energy efficiency, delivery rates, reduced energy consumption, end-to-end latency, and routing overhead when compared to recent works such as SCCR-VANET, CFCR-VANET, and MMCR-VANET.

Abstract

Distribution network feeder characteristics can typically be divided into groups based on factors including length, load distribution along the feeder, peak demand, installed capacity, and load profile. By comparing the parameters to those of similar feeders with known losses, it is usually possible to predict the power losses and technical losses (TL) of the respective feeders pretty accurately. However, it is exceedingly difficult and time-consuming to estimate the losses with various variables and characteristics over such a large area. This paper proposed that through base case feeder modeling and simulation utilizing typical network and load data, feeders’ peak power loss (PPL) functions can be established as a simple and effective power loss estimation method. Hence, the least time-consuming way of using a PPL regression equation based on a base case feeder is established in this paper to estimate the losses. The flexibility of PPL is proven through the case study. In the end, the results obtained between PPL and peak power demand (PPD) are demonstrated to be precisely proportional and the method is proven as a simple power loss estimation method due to the flexibility of the PPL regression equation.
