Journal of Educational, Health and Community Psychology
Journal of Educational, Health, and Community Psychology (JEHCP) published an article, and empirical study that have originality, novelty and fill the gap of knowledge, that focused on educational psychology, health psychology and community psychology. JEHCP is an open access peer reviewed, multidisciplinary journal that publishes quality studies related to psychology. JEHCP is interdisciplinary in approach, and includes to reports of qualitative case studies, quantitative experiments and surveys, mixed method studies, action researches, meta-analyses, and discussions of conceptual and methodological issues. The field of educational psychology includes the effectiveness of educational interventions, the psychology of teaching, and the social psychology of schools as organizations, motor skills and other psycho-physiological processes; cognitive development involving areas such as problem solving, language acquisition; social, personality, and emotional development; self-concept and identity formation. The field of Health Psychology includes the stress-related ilnesses, the health coping strategy, resiliency, work on health attitudes and behaviour, health locus of control, quality of life in chronic disease, influence of emotion on health and health-related behaviours, psychological interventions in health and disease as well as psychological aspects of prevention. The field of Community Psychology includes research, evaluation, assessment and intervention, and review articles that deal with human behavior in community settings. Articles of interest include descriptions and evaluations of service programs and projects, studies of youth, parenting, and family development, methodology and design for work in the community, the interaction of groups in the larger community, and criminals and corrections.

AbstractThe present study investigated the social network structure in a university class and how it changed over time. In addition, student rankings of social status in the class based on different network centrality measures were compared, and associations between students’ social status and psychological adjustment were evaluated. One university seminar class in which ten juniors and ten seniors were enrolled was followed for six months. Although the class network consisted of some disconnected subgroups at baseline, it became a single group at follow-up. In addition to these structural changes, measures of network integration (density and transitivity) also increased from baseline to follow-up. Comparisons of centrality measures indicated that the information centrality measure best captured thenetwork infrastructure compared to the betweenness, closeness, and degree centrality measures. Furthermore, among the centrality measures, information centrality had the most stablepositive association with psychological adjustment. Theoretical and practical implications of these peer network dynamics and adjustment issues are discussed. Keywords: social network, centrality, psychological adjustment, classroom climate

Abstract The aim of the study is to identify risk factors for occurrence of perinatal brain injury objectified in transfontanellar ultrasound (TFU) in a group of infants with high risk of neurodevelopmental sequelae. It’s a retrospective study, conducted at the neonatal intensive care unit of the Children's Hospital of Rabat, during the period from 1 January to 31 December 2014. Were included newborns hospitalized for a medical condition with intrauterine croissance retardation (ICUR) more than 5 days and have survived. The neurological workup includes TFU made between day 2 and day 5 of life. Data analysis was performed on SPSS 18.0 software. The level of significance was p <0.05. The percentage of newborns that developed neurological damage to the TFU was 36%. Patients with abnormalities in the TFU had a breakdown time, duration dependence of O2, duration of hospitalization and a higher frequency of nosocomial infections than patients without abnormality. The interest in the prevention of nosocomial infections is to try to shorten the duration of invasive ventilation, favoring fast relay noninvasive ventilation. Keywords: brain injury; newborns; prematurity, neurodevelopmental sequelae, trans-fontanellar ultrasound.Â

AbstractThe purpose of current literature review is to identify the association between stress, physical exercise, and mental health among athlete. The outcomes of this investigation reveal stress and physical exercise have crucial role on the level of mental health; they likewise can impact on mental health positively and negatively. As well, this study focused on mental health as a main factor among athlete that increase the level of their activities in sports fields. Moreover, lack of attention to this main factor that influenced via stress and physical exercise appeared various results. Abstract This present study examined the role of social capital sport oriented on workers’ participation in Tehran newspaper. Sport assumed as one of the principal factors in physical health that can be brilliant via difference items; furthermore, social-cultural is one of them. Besides, recognizing the main role of social-cultural on participation and also the motivation of workers is very necessary. On the other hand, lack of consideration to sport’s supportive factors appears many worries. In the current study, the sample of study was concentrated on 400 workers in Tehran newspaper. The questionnaire has comprised two main parts for assessing demographic factors and social capital sport oriented were applied. The result revealed that social capital sport oriented has a meaningful relationship with workers' participation in physical exercises. As well, patterns champion determined as a key reason for sport amongst workers. Regarding the main role of sport in workers life, considering to the enhancing factors such as social capital is precious. By the way, the supervisors of workers should be established appropriate methods for workers’ participation in sport; likewise, stimulate them in sports accomplishments. Keyword: Physical activity, social capital, sport, and workers’ participationÂ

AbstractThis study examined the self theory of Carl Rogers in depth. There are some important concepts illuminated well, considering one's personality development. Its main focus was positive regard, self-worth and actualizing tendency, proposed by Rogers. To explain them in brief, positive regard was studied through self-image, ideal self and congruence. Self-worth is described as conditional and unconditional to cope with challenges in life, tolerate failures and sadness at times. Actualizing tendency was expounded into fully functioning or self-actualizing. These all concepts indicated that having a tendency on human behavior and concentrating on the capacity of individuals to think intentionally and soundly, to control their biological urges, are significantly main elements to evaluate one’s self. Therefore, in the humanistic perspective, individuals have the opportunity and will to change their states of mind and behavior. This study might be a guide to some certain aspect of self related studies for other researchers to benefit accordingly and also to develop a new scale related to self using Rogers’s theory.Keywords: Rogers, personality, self, positive regard, actualizing tendency

Abstract This study aims to explore the moral disengagement in juvenile sex offenders and how their social environment relates to moral disengagement. Cognitive processes have a role in encouraging adolescents to fornicate a girl. The theory of moral disengagement can explain why adolescents do sexual offenses. This research used a qualitative method of a case study. The number of participants was seven adolescents aged 16-18 years and had been found guilty of forcibly by the court. The interview method was used to collect the data. The results showed that the juvenile sex offenders used seven forms of moral disengagement of Bandura’s theory: moral justification, euphemistic labeling, displacement of responsibility, diffusion of responsibility, distortion of consequences, dehumanization, and attribution of blame. The result also showed that juvenile sex offenders used active avoidance to minimize their guilty feeling. This was a different form of early moral disengagement form of Bandura. The social environments identified in this research were the family condition, permissive environmental, peer group, pornographic exposure, lack of appreciation of religion, and the absence of adverse reaction from the victim. Keywords: moral disengagement, The juvenile sex offenders, social environment, case study

AbstractThis paper discusses strategies for research with women who have been victimised in their intimate relationships with their partners. I will discuss the specific issues that concern the vulnerability of women victimised by intimate partner violence: experiences of intimate violence, stereotyping, minimisation, sexual violence, protection of children, the meaning of safety. Examples from the accounts of women who whose partners had been prosecuted for violence against them, and those who had sought legal interventions like protection orders, will illustrate how each of these issues needs to be taken into account when conducting research with abused women. Strategies that we have used to deal with these issues in studies conducted in the Domestic Violence Interventions and Services Research Programme will be discussed, with illustrations of the complexities of putting them into practice.Keyword: domestic violence, intimate relationships, victimization, and New Zealand women

Abstract Interest in the field of positive psychology has been overwhelming. This can be observed from the number of academic conferences and journals attributed to this field. Similar patterns can be observed in Asia where more and more research are concentrating on investigating constructs deemed as important within the field of positive psychology. However, comparable to other fields within psychology, positive psychology cannot ignore the importance of culture. This is especially true in South East Asian context when culture is arguably distinct from the American/European traditions in which positive psychology was originated from. Culture is likely to play a significant role in determining how human strengths are being conceptualized and nurtured and eventually determined a person’s well-being and success as experienced within that particular society. Based on some findings from a research of adolescent’s happiness and well-being in Malaysia, this paper highlights the importance of culture in advancing positive psychology in Asia. More specifically, findings from this research demonstrated the importance of positive psychology in understanding and improving quality of life for certain groups of people in a particular society and illustrated several significant cultural and subcultural differences that can potentially enrich our understanding of positive psychological constructs. Findings also indicated the importance of culturally embedded constructs such as family relations and spiritual elements in contributing to happiness. Finally findings from this study suggested the need to unpack more general constructs such as positive relationships and meanings of life as they are contextualized within a specific culture and the call for further exploration on other constructs related to human positive attributes and strengths. Keyword: positive psychology, wellbeing, and  culture

AbstractThis study was aimed to investigate the effect of students’ streaming practice in Malaysian secondary on students’ self-esteem through teachers’ expectancy. 17 teachers and 20 students from art and science streams of secondary schools in Penang, Malaysia were participated in this study. Unstructured interviews were used on teachers to collect the qualitative data of teachers’ expectancy. The participating students were from the fourth year of secondary school in Malaysian school system (between 16-17 years old, 10 from science stream and 10 from arts stream) were interviewed in order to collect the qualitative data of teachers’ perceived behavior and self-esteem. Result of this study shown that teachers expected science stream students to have good academic performance but expected arts stream students to be involved in disciplinary problems. Furthermore, science stream students perceived that their teachers were academically supportive but arts stream students perceived that their teachers were focusing on controlling their behavior. On the other hand, findings of this study also revealed that science stream students possed higher level of self-esteem than arts stream students. Accordingly, it was indicated that teachers’ perceived behavior and teachers’ expectancy are correlated to one another, and teachers’ perceived behavior predicts students’ self-esteem.Keywords: Streaming, students’ self-esteem, teachers’ expectancy, science stream, arts stream, supportive, controlling.

Abstract  The goal of this qualitative research is to investigate the increased sense of materialism among youth. The main research question is to identify the factors which are causing materialism among youth. The sample of this research included 25 people, age group 18-25 years obtained from students that are enrolled in universities. The interpretive phenomenological approach was taken which was based on semi-structured interviews. The findings revealed that materialistic trends are increasing among youth nowadays. Because thought patterns of youth and societal demands have changed totally. Factors that are increasing materialism include social media, brand consciousness; self-centeredness; fake personality development and desire to be socially accepted. The implications indicate that materialistic trend should stop by controlling the social media possession among youth which is the primary source of enhancing materialism among youth. Keywords: social media, parenting, brand consciousness, society, and lifestyle.Â
