Abstract

This research aims to: (1) produce conceptual attainment worksheet; (2) know concept understanding improvement; and (3) know science process skills improvement. This was a development research by using 4-D models (define, design, develop, and disseminate). The development product was tested in grade XI of SMA Negeri 1 Magelang with 20 students for limited test and 33 students for field test. The research produced worksheet based on validator’s score from language structure and design PA 96.97%, appropriate learning with conceptual attainment method PA 95.24%, and learning to improve science process skills PA 95%, in which all aspects got the best category. Almost students agreed to the worksheet with presentation 78% for limited test and 89% for field test. Conceptual understanding improvement based on normalized gain was 0.56 for limited test and 0.50 for field test. The improvement of science process skills wasn’t significant for all the test with range 0.1-0.3.

Abstract

In agreement with students’ conceptual understanding, identifying of problem solving is an important part of physics. This article is to identify the approach used by students in solving a physics problem. The subject of the research were students of physics education year 2014 in Jambi University who had joined basic physics class. The instruments used in this research were DIRECT (determining and interpreting resistive electric circuit concept test) (Engelhardt & Beichner, 2004). Based on the result, 34,1% students still used the memory based approach in problem solving, 52,3% of them used no clear approach, 4,5% used structured manner, 6,82% used unstructured manner and only 2,27% students used a scientific approach to solving the problem. The result showed that many students used no clear approach and memory based approach to solve the problem. It mean that they did not use physics concept in solving the problem and generally they only used the equation they memorized related to the problem they ever did before.

Abstract

This research aims to produce teaching and learning design to develop environmental literacy among students through project-based learning to internalize the Islamic values. The program was developed through research and development design with three phases: a preliminary study, development program, and feasibility studies. This research produces three characteristics of the teaching and learning programs i.e.: (a) Developing environmental literacy of students based on Islamic values by using project-based teaching and learning; b) Developing the main themes of ‘Green Living’ of which is divided into four sub-themes: ‘Save our water,’ ‘Save our Soil,’ ‘Use Eco-friendly Products’ and ‘Waste for Life’; c) Facilitating students to conduct learning activities, in order to develop scientific skills and environmental literacy. The design model was validated by experts’ judgment. The tests showed that this design is feasible to be used in courses. It is suggested that the theme be broadened to include other relevant themes with environmental issues. The study is recommended to be followed up with testing and implementation by integrating the themes in other relevant subjects.

Abstract

The research aims to obtain information of improvement students’ generic skills in science through chemistry learning using ICT-based media on reaction rate and osmotic pressure material. This research was designed with quasi-experimental research method, with the design of non-equivalent control group pretest-posttest design. The research subjects were students of class XI and XII one of Madrasah Aliyah Negeri (State Islamic Senior High School) in Bandung. Learning process in experiment group were conducted using ICT-based media, whereas in control group conducted by applying laboratory activities. Data were collected through multiple-choice test. The result shows that there was no significant difference of n- gain of students’ generic skill in science between experiment and control group. Therefore it can be concluded that the learning process using ICT-based media can improve students' generic skills in science as well as laboratory-based activities.

Abstract

The results of tracer studies on the approach of Jelajah Alam Sekitar (JAS) or environment exploring learning has been detected is used in eight provinces in Indonesia and studied in the learning begin primary school to college. Then, how the effectiveness of the implementation of the JAS approach in improving the learning process. This study uses meta-analysis-data in the form of descriptive exploratory qualitative. Data was taken from the various thesis, and research faculty in the last 10 years. Data analysis was performed by calculating the percentage of the same findings for similar problems. The results showed a wide range of studies using different methods and approach such as qualitative descriptive, quasi-experimental, PTK and R and D to produce evidence that the approach JAS effective when applied in teaching, especially teaching biology in a variety of teaching materials. Various studies have shown the approach JAS managed to increase learning outcomes, can differentiate learning outcomes between treatment and control groups in which the treatment group had a mean score higher. Models/strategies/methods centered learning students are very relevant to implementation approach JAS making it seem more real, like a model of cooperative learning, think pair share, strategy role-playing, the investigation group, learning cycle 5e, hands-on activity, and so on, making it possible to continuously assessed and developed in the paradigm of competency-based curriculum developed.

Abstract

One of the main problems in physics is the emergence of students’ misconceptions which comes from the prejudices of false starts and a naive belief. Many studies have shown that students tend to have developed their own understanding before the formal teaching is done. The ideas which are developed by students which are different from the explanations by the experts are known as misconceptions. The initial idea that has been formed by the students is very difficult to change by the teachers although the materials are presented with scientific concepts. Misconceptions diagnosis research on the hydrostatic pressure concept was conducted on 23 students of class X MIA B SMAN 3 Malang using Three-tier test. The diagnosis results that the students get misconceptions on the indicators, it explain the hydrostatic pressure is influenced by the depth and at all points located in the horizontal area in the calm liquid has the same hydrostatic pressure, and the hydrostatic pressure is proportional to the density of the fluid, include 1) students believe that hydrostatic pressure is greater at a point closer to the closed cavity (43.5%), 2) the students believe that the hydrostatic pressure is proportional to the density of the submerged object (30.4%), 3) the students believe that the hydrostatic pressure is greater on the outside of the cave because it has a larger volume of fluid so that the pressure is higher (17.4%), 4) students had misconceptions in determining the depth in case of hydrostatic pressure (13%), 5) the students believe that the hydrostatic pressure is greater in the narrow place (13%).

Abstract

This study aims to determine the differences in the application of the model LC (5E) with a technique variation (interrelationship diagram / ID and affinity diagrams / AD) of two classes of different school (XIPA-8 class of SMAN 3 Surakarta and class XIPA-6 of SMAN 3 Boyolali), toward the increase of students’ creativity. This research is a qualitative descriptive study. The results of this study, we can conclude that the application of the model LC (5E) with a technique variation at two schools can improve students' creativity despite different levels of improvement.

Abstract

This study examined the effect of integrating SQ4R reading technique with graphic post organizers on the students’ Earth and Space Science learning achievement and development of metacognitive knowledge. The pretest-posttest non-equivalent control group design was employed in this quasi-experimental method. The sample which consists of 103 seventh grade of secondary school students of SMPN 1 Pontianak was drawn by using intact group random sampling technique. An achievement test and a questionnaire of  Reading-Self Awareness were administered. The findings assert that there are significant difference of students’ achievement (F=5.594, p ‹ 0.05) and development of metacognitive knowledge (F= 13.906, p ‹ 0.05) among groups after having received the three distinctive treatments. Integrating SQ4R reading technique with graphic post organizers reveals an effective impact on the academic achievement (ES= 0.69) and the metacognitive knowledge in reading text (ES = 0.48). It confirms that a science teacher has to execute and model metacognitive strategies intentionally.

Abstract

This research aims to apply and find out the characteristics of Problem-Based Instrumental Analysis of Chemistry Lab Work Learning Model (IACLLM) which is able to build the characters, improve the conceptual mastery and the ability of problem solving. The research using experimental quasy with 2 student groups of pre service chemistry teachers as the subjects of the research applied the treatment of problem-based IACLLM for the experimental class and lab work learning with standard lab work procedure in control class. Conceptual mastery was measured using essay test; problem solving skills were measured using assessment of problem solving reports, presentation of the results, and kit making products; whereas the emerged characters were observed during the learning process. The result of this research showed that problem-based IACLLM had open-ended problem characteristic, had produced local material kit, and characters were observed in every stage of problem-based learning model. The implementation of the model could improve the spectrometric and electrometric conceptual mastery, the problem solving skills on a very good level and also some characters were developing during learning process, including religious, discipline, honest, curious, creative, critical, cooperative, communicative, independent, and able to appreciate other people’s opinions and achievements, leadership, democracy, and able to be thorough and careful, and hardworking.

Abstract

Learning media is one of the important elements in the learning process. Technological development support makes learning media more varied. The approach of using digital technology as a learning media has a better and more effective impact than other approaches. In order to increase the students’ learning interest, it requires the support of an interesting learning media. The use of gaming applications as learning media can improve learning outcomes. The benefits of using the maximum application cannot be separated from the determination of application design. The Bana game aims to increase the ability of critical thinking of the junior high school students. The usability-testing analysis on the Bana game application is used in order to get the design reference as an educational game development. The game is used as an object of the analysis because it has the same characteristics and goals with the game application to be developed. Usability Testing is a method used to measure the ease of use of an application by users. The Usability Testing consists of learnability, efficiency, memorability, errors, and satisfaction. The results of the analysis obtained will be used as a reference for educational game applications that will be developed.
