Abstract

Growth of education and technology are related that made teacher must be more creative on educate, one of them is the variation of educational media. This research aims to develop an education games using the Android-based Role Playing Games genres that proper and effective to use in the Redox and Compound Nomenclature. This research refers to ADDIE model. Data collection techniques used method of documentation, tests, and questionnaires. The result of documentation method are students mark that analyzed to gain normality and homogenity of the class that used for experiments. Tests used to measure the classical completeness of student in experimental class with the developed media and control class without it. Questionnaire used to determine responses of respondents to the developed media. The results of the assessment by media experts show that media had scored 44,5 from maximum score 48 and by instructional experts show that media had scored 37 from maximum score 44. Media also said to be effective showed from the class completeness of 84,8% in the experiment class higher than control class that scored 54,3%. Media had very good criteria with percentage of 84,8% showed by students questionnaire and 87,5% showed by teachers questionnaire.

Abstract

Learing process in classroom in this time directing the students to develop their thinking skills, one of which is chemical literacy ability. Chemical literacy ability can be built by implementing learning activities get used to thinking and develop student knowledge concepts independently. The purpose of this research is to describe the profile of students’s chemical literacy ability improvement through contextual inquiry-based learning. The method used is experimental method with pretest-posttest control group design. Samples were taken using cluster random sampling technique, sample using two classes in X MIPA SMA Islam Sudirman Ambarawa. Data collection method in this research is chemical literacy test and questionnaire. Analysis of data using n-gain test, normality test, similarity two variance test, and t test. The results of the research showed the average value of chemical literacy posttest experimental class 72.86 and control class of 63.42. The test result of n-gain experimental class 0.621 and control class 0.618, both in medium category. The t test results on the posttest value tcount of 3.66 over ttable of 2.00, which means the chemical literacy ability of experimental class is better than control class. Based on these results, it can be concluded that contextual-guided inquiry learning can improve students’s chemical literacy profile on context aspect, knowledge, competency, and attitude aspect.

Abstract

The research is a development research that aims to produce a product in the form of an instrument to detect chemical misconceptions in the buffer solution material. The research method used is the 4-D method, namely: Define, Design, Development, and Dissemination. The two tiers choice diagnostic test instrument product is in the form of 20 multiple choice questions. Data collection techniques were carried out with content validation sheets by material experts, difficulty level tests and teacher and student response questionnaires. The results of the content validity test by evaluation experts showed that diagnostic test questions were declared feasible to be used as an instrument for detecting high school students' misconceptions on the subject of buffer solution material with a total score of 105 and material experts with a total score of 145. questions, questions that are currently 6 items, and problems that are difficult there are 7 items. The results of the percentage of the average score obtained from the questionnaire seen from the aspect of practicality, readability and time in working on the problem resulted in 79.85%, 78.58% and 74.11% aspects. The conclusions of this study were two tiers choice diagnostic test instruments suitable for use as an instrument to detect high school students' misconceptions on the subject of buffer solution material.

Abstract

As chemistry teacher candidates, chemistry education students should have a complete mental model, including alcohol. But in reality, 42% of prospective chemistry teacher students at one of the state universities found that alcohol material was difficult to understand. These difficulties are indicators of the lack of mental models of the chemistry teacher candidates. This study aims to explore the types of mental models of prospective chemistry teachers on alcohol material. This research is a type of descriptive research with a qualitative approach. The subjects of this study were students of the Department of Chemistry Education in 2016. The sample was selected using a purposive sampling technique. The number of samples determined was 12 students with different levels of understanding. Mental model excavations were performed using the Diagnostic Test Mental-Interview About Event (TDM-IAE). The diagnostic test consists of open-ended questions, drawing submicroscopic representation activities, and interviews. The results showed that in general chemistry teacher candidates had a synthetic mental model with a percentage of 66.66% verbal description answers. In the picture answers, all chemistry teacher candidates have a synthetic mental model.

Abstract

As advances in the world of education, information and communication technology make an extraordinary contribution to the development of science. 2013 curriculum development applies student centered learning patterns, interactive learning patterns, and multimedia-based learning patterns. Chemistry is not enough to simply convey a modification of the learning model, but it is very important to develop a variety of instructional media. The research aims to developing flash-based instructional media are entitled happy chemist to measure student understanding of concepts in hydrolysis material. The research uses research and development types with the method that is modified 4D defining stage (define), design (design), and development (develop). The study was conducted at SMA N 1 Karanganyar, the sampling use purposive sampling technique. The sample are XI IPA 4 and XI IPA 6 class, each of which consists of 36 students. Results of the validation analysis of the feasibility of the media shows the percentage of media validation of 86.69 included in the criteria very well. Questionnaire responses student small scale test and test large-scale gets excellent criteria. The results of the analysis of understanding of concepts based on questions were obtained by 60,56% of students including the category of understanding concepts, 25,98% of students including the category of misconception, 5,90% including the chancy category, while the less understand and not understand categories were 5,38% and 2,17% of all students. Conclusions from the study of media developed proven valid and effective use in learning.

Abstract

In order to create the next generation of people with character, religious values really need to be instilled in students. One of them is by integrating religious values in learning material. Integrating this aspect can show positive changes to face global competition in the era of 4.0. This study aims to develop a questionnaire instrument for measuring the religious character of students integrated in chemistry learning. The research design used is R & D (Research and Development) research. The development model used is a modified 4-D model as suggested by Thiagarajan, Semmel and Semmel which consists of define, design, develop and disseminate. Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that this study produced a questionnaire instrument for measuring students' character in chemistry learning consisting of 20 indicators that were declared valid and reliable with a validity price of 0.9028 and a reliability of 0.9037. The questionnaire instrument was developed by integrating religious character values with the learning of hydrocarbon chemistry. The results showed that the questionnaire instrument was effective for measuring the religious character of students with an average increase in the religious character of students by 0.54 so that it was included in the medium category.

Abstract

Concept understanding of student in Indonesia shows a relatively low percentage of 42,5%. Guided inquiry combined with e-module becomes an alternative learning that is applied because it is able to student to develop concepts through scientific methods. This study aims to determine the effect of the application of the guided inquiry learning model assisted by e-module towards student’s concept understanding. This experimental research uses quantitative descriptive methods. The population in this study is students of class XI MIPA SMAN 3 Pati in the academic year 2018/2019. The sample in this study was taken by purposive sample technique. The sample in this study is students of class XI MIPA 1 as an experimental class an XI MIPA 2 as a control class. This study uses a pretest-posttest group design. Data collection techniques were carried out using a three tier multiple choice model test, interview sheets and questionnaires. Hypothesis testing is done using the two different test, test the effect of variables and n-gain test. The results showed that the average concept understanding of experimental class was higher than control class. Great increase in concept understanding of experimental class is 0.50, into medium category. The results of questionnaire responses analysis showed that students give positive renponses regarding the learning model applied. The result shows that the application of the guided inquiry learning model assisted by e-module has a positive influence that can improve concept understanding of student.

Abstract

In the chemistry teaching and learning, Self-Regulated Learning (SRL) plays an important role in students’ academic motivation and also academic achievement. An innovation in chemistry teaching and learning, such as applying of Multimedia Based Learning (MBL), could increase the students’ SRL. The aims of this research were (1) to determine whether there is a difference SRL of high school students who applying MBL in chemistry teaching learning and students does not apply to the MBL, and (2) to determine whether there is an increased SRL high school students before and after applying MBL in chemistry teaching learning. The experiment was conducted in class XI SMA 1 Sleman to take Thermochemical matter. Researchers create a medium for these materials and continued with expert judgment of the media. Data SRL students were measured using validated questionnaires. Data analysis was performed using SPSS. The results showed that (1) there was no significant difference in SRL of students who participating in chemistry teaching learning by applying MBL and student who does not, which showed that the probability value of 0.711 or probability value> 0.05; (2) there are significant differences in SRL of students before and after participating in chemistry teaching learning which applying MBL, which is seen from the results of paired samples t-test, the price of p (0,000) <0.05.

Abstract

Critical thinking skills (CTS) are needed in chemistry learning, especially on solubility and the solubility product constant concept because this concept has contextual, complex characteristics and most of the concepts are obtained through practical activities. The learning that can train students CTS is REACT (Relating, Experiencing, Applying, Cooperating, Transferring) learning. This study aims to determine of application REACT learning to students CTS on solubility and the solubility product constant concept. The design of this study was one group pretest posttest with purposive sampling technique. The instrument was valid and reliable 12 essay questions and observation sheets. Data analysis technique was done by analysis descriptive using N-Gain and statistical analysis using paired sample t-test. The result showed that the N-Gain value with the medium category on 6 indicator CTS. These results were supported with the result of the paired sample test are acquired the significance value <0,05 and effect size results with high criteria that indicated REACT learning has a positive effect on students CTS on solubility and the solubility product constant concept

Abstract

Chemistry learning in schools emphasizes learning chemistry concepts in a coherent, structured and detailed manner. Concepts delivered in a coherent, structured and detailed way make it easier for students to understand and understand concepts. Several strategies can be used to assist students in learning concepts, including the use of student worksheets that shape student thinking in a structured way. This descriptive analysis research aims to determine the ability of metacognition through the use of student worksheets based on discovery learning. The research design used is the One-Shot Case Study. The study was conducted by giving treatment to the group studied in the form of learning using Discovery Learning-based Student Worksheets four times. After being given treatment, the group is given a post-test in the form of questions that have metacognition indicators and question indicators, then given a questionnaire response to the worksheet based on discovery learning, a questionnaire responding to the ability of metacognition. Data from the results of the post test and questionnaire were analyzed and conclusions were drawn. The results showed an average post-test score obtained at 87.94% while the average questionnaire score obtained at 81.64%, the results of the interview analyzed descriptively also showed good metacognition skills. As for the results of students' metacognition abilities based on their ability level, they are: 17.64% low level; 61.76% moderate level; and 20.59 are at a high level. Based on the data collected, it can be concluded that the metacognition ability of the XI MIA 7 grade students of SMA Negeri 5 Purwokerto is at the most moderate level.
