Abstract

In designing learning strategy, a lecturer should pay attention to input characteristics, such as students’ learning style, motivation, and other factors. Therefore, it is important for a lecturer to know his teaching style so that there is no gap between lecturer and his students. Students should also know their learning style in order to choose the most effective learning method for them. The objective of this research was to know the impact of students’ learning style towards their study achievement on the subject of general biology. Population of the research were that all the students of semester I  2009/2010 of biology education program, and total of the samples were 31 students. Instruments used to gathering the data were observation, questionnaire, and documentation. It used SPSS to analyze the data. The research result showed that students’ learning style belonged to visual type. Learning style was influential to students’ study achievement on statictic p-value 0.000 (  < 0.05) and t statistic value for independent variable was 8.850 on concrete degree 5%. Type of the regression was Y = 18,292 + 0,892X. The result of statistical validation test F showed the p-value 0.000 ( < 0.05) and determination coefficient or R square was 0.73, and it meant that 73% of the students’ study result were influenced by their learning style. Abstract

The dissatisfactory quality of education in Indonesia showed that the quality of teaching and learning process done by teachers & students was still low. Learning paradigm still focused on a teacher only (teacher centered learning) that caused learning process unattractive and monotonous, and it did not give a challenge for students. As a result, the graduates, both of primary and secondary education levels, became static humans who had no creativity and innovation in their life. There were some factors that made difficult to change teacher paradigm in teaching and learning activity, namely teacher’s low commitment and skill in implementing active teaching-learning process. Therefore, teachers training institution (LPTK) should prepare the students to have skills in implementing active teaching and learning. One of some efforts that could be done to improve students’ skill, as prospective teachers, in implementing an active learning was that by implementing MEI strategy. It covered: (1) Modelling (a lecturer as a model in implementing active learning in the class), (2) Engaging (it involves students in active learning. in this case, planning, processing and evaluating of the teaching-learning activity done by a lecturer reflected the real implementation of active learning), and (3) Integrating (it integrates active learning in all subjects theoretically and practically, like the subjects of teaching and learning strategy, learning design, development of learning media, learning assessment, and microteaching). Keyword: prospective teacher’s skills, active learning, and MEI

Abstract

The background of this research were that students’ capability in writing traditional poetry was still low, they were lack of being active, so that there were no optimal interactions between students and teacher or vice versa. The teacher always used conventional teaching method (teacher centered learning) in teaching process, so that it was necessary to apply TTW teaching method (think, talk, and write) on the Indonesian language subject, especially in the topic on writing traditional poetry. This was classroom action research covering the activities of planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. Those were done several times in cycles. This research was done by collaborating among all teachers of Platar 1 State Primary School, Tahunan Jepara. The research result showed that (1) average score for writing tradional poetry  was 64.27 at cycle 1. At the next cycle was 74.13, and at the last cycle to be 86.67. The next result was that the students’ activity observation score improve from cycle 1 up to cycle 3. at cycle 1 the average score was 69%, cycle 2 was 76%, and at cycle 3 was 87%. Observation score on teacher’s activity also improved on each cycle. At cycle 1, the average score on teacher’s activity was 68.75%, cycle 2 was 85.71%, and at cycle 3 improved to be 86.43%. The teacher had used TTW method at each step of teaching process (cycle 1 up to 3). TTW method consisted of think, meaning that the students payed attention to the reading and making the traditional poetry done by teacher. Talk here meant that the students did discussion under teacher’s guide, and the last was write, meaning  that they wrote traditional poetry individually or in groups. Based on the research result, it could be concluded that the use of TTW method was effective to improve students’ capability in writing traditional poetry for the students of year IV, Platar 1 State Primary School. Abstract

Education is one of human beings’ life aspects, because a human is the only one who can get education. Therefore education needs a philosophy, on account of the fact that educational problems relate to educational realization. In education realization, it will appear broader and more complex problems that cannot be limited by experiences and facts, and it cannot also be reached by knowledge. Educational philosophy does not relate to facts only, but it also relates to goodness and badness, forms of human’s life, and human’s perfect social life. It means that education is the implementation of philosophical ideas. In other word, philosophy provides certain basis for educational values, education institutions, and educatioal implementation activities. In this case, the roles of educational philosophy are as pull factors for education itself. In details, educational philosophy becomes the soul and basis for educational implementation. The basis of scientific philosophy relates to ontology, epistemology and the basis of educational antropology science. Formal object of educational science is limited at the scope of human beings only in education situation, so that education in practice can be free of hesitancy. In social situation, a human often behaves unperfectly, only as an individual or social beings behaving collectively. In this case, this behavior is  not a matter and can be accepted as long as it is limited at education in macro scope related to structured socio-cultural by certain value systems. Thereby, the basis of educational philosophy must reflect in all activities related to education, both instructional and non-instructional ones. In other words, all teacher’s decisions and activities must be educational. Finally, as a professional worker, a teacher must get sufficient preparations that is based by a set of philosophical assumptions, as the interpretation of appropriate concepts of educational knowledge. Abstract

There is contradiction on art creation breaking the pornography act. It  has the impact at existing argumentation on the form of beauty and badness of an art creation. There are some ideas to give nature asmosphere of the contradiction, just like that art is aesthetic scope finding the nature of beauty and badness values, making creation, and expressing its beauty. on the other hand, morality is ethical scope finding the goodness and badness values. Knowledge is epistemology scope examining the truth and wrongness values. Based on some ideas above, the problems of the research were whether there was morality within art, and whether art morality could be build through education, or vise versa, and also whether there was art that was free of any values except its aesthetic values. This writing tried to discuss those problems and give alternative solutions. It also tried to discuss those problems using religion and philosophy approaches. In any religion perspective, each of human beings will be responsible for his/her deeds, including art creation and expression, at least in morality responsibility. However, it is necessary to know that there is morality within art. Keywords: morality, art, education, aesthetics

Abstract

Social science achievement on diversity of ethnic and culture at semester I academic year 2010/2011 was still low. They got average score 61.10 out of 15 students, 7 male and 8 female students. Based on their avhievement, only 7 students had achieved passing grade score (6.5), whereas the average score should have been 6.5. This was because the teacher often applied explanation method during the process of teaching and learning on social science for students of year IV, and he/she had not used innovative learning model so that the students felt bored. To overcome this problem, the researcher tried to apply Make A Match Cooperative Learning Model. The subject of the research were the students of year IV, consisting of 15 students. This was a classroom action research with 3 cycles, and each cycle consisted of planning, acting, observing and  reflecting. The instruments used in this research were test items, observation sheet, interview, and documentation. The results of the research were (1) teacher’s activity at the first cycle was 66% with good qualification, second cycle was 79.54% with good qualification, and at the third cycle was 93.18% with very good qualification. The next result were (2) students’ activity at the first cycle was 60.44% with fair qualification, second cycle was 79.33% with good qualification, and third cycle was 85.77% with very good qualification. Almost all students had achieved passing grade score (6.5) at each cycle significantly and they had obtain completeness of study achievement.   At the first cycle, the average score was 67.73 with good qualification, second cycle was 73.20 with good qualification, and at the third cycle was 82.06 with good qualification. It is suggested that all the teacher conduct teaching and learning process using Make A Match Cooperative Learning Model for other lessons. It is also important to do the further research. Keywords: improving, social science achievement, make a match cooperative learning model.
