Abstract

Volcanic eruptions can cause health problems. To prepare for a volcanic eruption disaster, knowledge, attitudes, and actions are needed which are important components of preparedness. This study aims to describe the preparedness of Lokon St. Nikolaus Tomohon highschool students on the eruption of Mount Lokon. This research is descriptive in nature with a cross-sectional research design which was carried out in October-December 2022. This study used a simple random sampling method and obtained 173 respondents who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The instrument used was a student preparedness questionnaire for volcanic eruptions. The level of preparedness of Lokon St. Nikolaus Tomohon in the good category totaling 152 students (87.9%), based on age characteristics in the good category there are 19 years old with a total of 2 students (100%), based on gender characteristics in the good category there is female gender totaling 90 students (90.9 %), and based on the characteristics of the region of origin in the good category, there are other regions with a total of 55 students (90.2%). Abstract

Natural disasters are frequent events in Indonesia. The occurrence of natural disasters will result in various kinds of damage, losses, and even health problems. Lack of knowledge about disaster preparedness will affect a person's attitude and actions in dealing with disasters. It takes special expertise of medical students who will become a competent doctor in health services during natural disasters. This study aims to determine the description of knowledge, attitudes, and actions of students of the Medical Education Study Program, Faculty of Medicine, Sam Ratulangi University towards natural disaster preparedness. This is a descriptive study with a cross sectional design with a sampling technique using simple random sampling. The research instrument used a questionnaire (Google form). Total respondents who participated in this study were 116 respondents. The results showed that Medical Education students of the Faculty of Medicine, Sam Ratulangi University mostly had high knowledge of disaster preparedness as much as 61.2%, a positive attitude towards disaster preparedness as much as 63.8%, and were able to take action on disaster preparedness as much as 71.6%. From the result of this study, it can be concluded that Medical Education Students of the Faculty of Medicine, Sam Ratulangi University have high levels of knowledge, positive attitudes, and capable actions in natural disaster preparedness. Abstract

Background: Family physicians as primary care doctors and first medical contacts in providing services through a reciprocal referral mechanism including in disaster management and emergency services to prevent and reduce the impact caused by disasters. North Sulawesi as a disaster-prone area shows the high need for doctors who are responsive and ready to handle disasters which are influenced by factors of knowledge, attitudes, and actions in dealing with disasters. Purpose: To find out the knowledge, attitudes, and actions of family physicians in North Sulawesi in dealing with disasters. Methods: This research is descriptive in nature with a cross-sectional research design for all primary care family medicine specialists in North Sulawesi. This research used a purposive sampling method which was carried out in October-November 2022 and found 29 respondents who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Abstract

Sleep quality, if not met, will affect the health of the fetus. Pregnant women need about eight hours to sleep at night, besides napping is also needed by pregnant women when entering the second and third trimesters. The more complaints the mother feels so that it interferes with rest at bedtime. One solution to overcome this discomfort is to use the pregnancy exercise method. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of pregnancy exercise on sleep quality in second and third trimester pregnant women at the Kema Minahasa Public Health Center, North Sumatra. This type of research use a pre-experiment in the form of a one-group Pre-post-test design. The population of this study was pregnant women in the second and third trimester. In the area of the North Kema MInahasa Public Health Center with a total of 16 respondents, the sample Technique used proposive sampling. The results of this study indicate that before the implementation of Pregnancy exercise, 15 pregant women (93,8 %) had poor sleep quality and after the exercise, the quality of sleep in the good category increased to 14 respondents (87,5%). Wilcoxon test results p = 0.000 which means p <0.05, namely Ha is accepted. The conclusion from the results of this study showed thaht was an effect of pregnancy exercise on the quality of sleep pf pregnant women in the second and third trimesters. Suggestions for pregnant women to improve sleep quality by applying the pregnancy exercise method during Pregnancy. Keywords: sleep quality, pregnant women, pregnancy exercise

Abstract

Myopia umumnya dideraita oleh usia usia sekolah antara 7 – 17 tahun. Walaupun gangguan penglihatan ini masih bisa dikoreksi dengan pe,berian kaca mata, akan tetapi gangguan ini banyak menimbulkan masalah belajar pada anak usia sekolah. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendapatkan gambaran kesehatan mata khususnya gambaran kemampuan visus pada murid sekolah SD GMIM II Kauditan, Kabupaten Minahasa Utara, Propinsi Sulawesi Utara. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa prevalensi myopia pada SD GMIM II Kauditan, Kabupaten Minahasa Utara sebesar 25,3%, dengan sebaran merata pada murid laki-laki dan perempuan, dan terjadi pada satu mata atau kedua mata. Kesimpulan bahwa gangguan visus myopia masih kerap terjadi pada anak usia sekolah, dan perlu penelitian lanjut tentang faktor resiko terjadinya myopia ini sehingga edukasi dan tindakan khusus lainnya bisa diambil untuk penanganan masalah gangguan visus ini.

Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Pulmonary TB remains a major public health problem in Indonesia. According to data from the Indonesian Ministry of Health, by 2022, there were approximately 694,808 cases of TB in Indonesia. Symptoms of TB can vary depending on the infected part of the body and the severity of the disease. Acid-resistant bacteria microscopic sputum examination, tuberculin test, TB blood test are methods to diagnose tuberculosis. This case is a person who has been diagnosed with TB for 4 months. The patient still complains of coughing. The patient is still regularly taking the TB drug package provided by the health center. The patient's family is very supportive of the patient's treatment. The environment around the patient is also positive towards the patient. This discussion is a holistic diagnostic approach to the patient's illness. Family doctor management and related factors in the course of the patient's illness are part of this case based discussion.

Abstract

Background: Untreated hyperuricemia can develop into uric acid-related diseases, such as gout arthritis. Research indicates that 35% of the population in the North Sulawesi Province has elevated uric acid levels. Data from the Social Security Administrative Body for Health (BPJS Kesehatan) in 2022 showed that the number of gout arthritis cases in this province reached 8,781 cases, with Manado City ranked second. This figure increased compared to previous years. According to healthcare procedures, the management of gout arthritis begins at the Primary Health Care (FKTP) such as community health centers and private practice doctors. However, in practice, there are still differences in the approach to gout arthritis management among family physicians, influenced by factors such as their behavior toward disease management. Aim: To assess the overview of behavior (knowledge, attitudes, and practice) of family physicians in the management of gout arthritis in Manado City. Methods: This study is a descriptive study with a cross-sectional research design. Results: The level of knowledge of family physicians in Manado City is considered good by 86% of the respondents, and 14% of the respondents categorized as sufficient The attitude of family physicians was rated as good by 98% of the respondents, and their practice rated as good by 98% of the respondents. Conclusion: The level of behavior of family physicians in the management of gout arthritis in Manado City is considered good.Keywords: behavior; family physicians; gout arthritis

Abstract

Background: Until now, malaria has become an infectious disease and a global health problem, including in Indonesia. Factors such as community knowledge, attitudes, and actions have an important role in the incidence of malaria. Based on data from the Tikala Baru Primary Health Center, during the period January 2023 to August 2023, 6 cases of malaria were recorded, of which 3 cases came from Neighborhood VI of Taas Village. Aim: To assess the knowledge, attitudes, and practice of the community towards malaria. Methods: The method used was descriptive analytic with a cross-sectional approach. Data analysis was conducted through a univariate analysis approach.Results: This study included 90 respondents as samples. The level of knowledge of respondents in Neighborhood VI of Taas Village was classified in the good category (72%), the attitude of the community was positive (100%), and the level of action was moderate (50%).Conclusion: Respondents in Neighborhood VI of Taas Village had good knowledge, positive attitudes, and moderate actions.Keywords: malaria, knowledge, attitude, practice, neighborhood VI, Taas Village

Abstract

Background: Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is one of the non-communicable diseases included in the top 10 causes of death worldwide, with 6.7 million reported cases. The prevalence of DM in North Sulawesi Province ranks 4th, with a prevalence of 2.3%, exceeding the national average. Comprehensive treatment, which does not solely focus on the patient's disease aspect, is needed to address the increasing cases of DM. The Indonesian government, through the Social Health Insurance Administration Body (BPJS), operates a primary care system that utilizes family physicians as the frontline in serving the community. However, several conducted studies reveal a lack of frequency in the knowledge, attitude, and practice of family physicians towards DM management.Aim: To determine the behaviour (knowledge, attitude, and action) of family physicians management of type 2 DM in Manado City.Methods: This study is a descriptive study with a cross-sectional research design.Results: The level of knowledge, attitude, and practice of family physicians in type 2 DM management was categorized as good at 98.2% and sufficient at 1.8%.Conclusion: The behaviour of family physicians in Type 2 DM management in Manado City is considered good.Keywords: behaviour, type 2 diabetes mellitus, family physicians

Abstract

Background: Asthma is a heterogeneous disease typically characterized by chronic inflammation of the airways, manifested by respiratory symptoms such as wheezing, shortness of breath, and coughing. Data from Social Security Administrative Body for Health (BPJS Kesehatan) in 2019 showed significance increase in this province reached 1974 cases. Lifestyle in big cities like Manado City can increase the risk factors for asthma. The management of asthma requires a holistic approach, starting at the Primary Health Care Facilities (FKTP—Fasilitas Kesehatan Tingkat Pertama), such as community health centres and private practices doctors. However, studies have found that family physicians’ behaviour have limited knowledge concerning their knowledge, attitudes, and practices in asthma management.Aim: To assess the overview of behaviour (knowledge, attitudes, and practice) of family physicians regarding management of asthma in Manado City. Methods: This study was a descriptive study with a cross-sectional research design.Results: The level of knowledge was in the good category for 82% of family doctors in Manado City and in the sufficient category for 18% of family doctors. Attitude was categorized as good for 39% of family doctors and fair for 61% of them. The proportion of family doctors who had actions in the good category was 75%, 23% in the fair category, and 2% in the poor category.Conclusion: The behaviour of family doctors in the aspect of asthma knowledge was considered good, attitudes were at a sufficient level, and actions were concluded to be good.Keywords:behaviour; family physicians; asthma
