Abstract

Despite the Balinese people having strong eco-feminism based on their religious beliefs, five patriarchal powers have marginalized their role in the traditional rice-field system, known as subak. This paper seeks to demonstrate the existence of women farmers within patriarchal power with an ecofeminism approach in Subak Bulung Daya, Antap Village, Tabanan Regency. Qualitative methods with critical ethnographic analysis were implemented. According to this study, women are responsible for carrying out agricultural rituals and helping their husbands in all agricultural activities. However, patriarchal power marginalizes women in the subak system and must accept a double burden in the domestic and public spheres, thus demonstrating a paradoxical model of eco-feminism. This study found that even in patriarchal oppression, Balinese women still play an important role in maintaining ecological balance through various rituals as local wisdom.

In maintaining the existence of bamboo-based local products of Sidetapa Village, the women weavers always try to be adaptive to market demand. They also actively engage in training programs provided by external parties with the aim of knowing market developments and improving product quality. The article contributes to our understanding of the double roles of women in handling domestic work and getting income to support domestic needs.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to find out the process of entry and development of Hindus and to explain the identity of Balinese people in Tugumulyo Village, Lempuing District, Ogan Komering Ilir Regency, South Sumatra Province. The research methods used were historical that included heuristics, criticism, interpretation, historiography, and interviews. The study indicates that the presence of Hindus in Tugumulyo Village was caused by economic disparities in the previous transmigration area. The Hindu community in its religious activities is still the same in their application of the teachings of the Vedas. Balinese people with their Hindu religion, continue to maintain and develop self-concepts in a pluralistic society (Javanese, Komering, and others). This effort has paid off, it has been proven that the Balinese retain their identity, without putting tolerance aside. This article contributes to our understanding of harmonious life between people with different ethnic and religious backgrounds in a transmigration region in Indonesia.

Abstract

Museum Pustaka Lontar in Karangasem, Bali, has preserved and promoted lontars, the manuscripts that carried the ancient texts of Balinese tradition. This research and development study constructed an English module for the local guides at the lontar museum. The needs analysis derived from the observation of the museum, and interviews with the guides, investigated the guides’ necessities, lacks, and wants in learning English. The result showed that the local guides needed modules where the materials correspond to the guiding sequences of the museum. The materials had to also accommodate the translation of museum lontar-specific terms into English. Conversation-based materials were the most requested, as it resembled their daily interaction with visitors. These findings served as the base for the material development of the English module. Guides, language learners, and teachers in the tourism field might source their learning from the module.

Abstract

Implementation of the Cleanliness, Health, Safety, and Environmental Sustainability (CHSE) program at the Melasti Beach Ungasan Bali tourist destination is intended to boost visitor trust. This study examined visitor views of the implementation of CHSE at Melasti Beach and the consequent effects on destination image, trust, satisfaction, and loyalty. SEMPLS assessed data gathered through the surveying of 100 respondents. CHSE is well-implemented, and visitors trust the destination. Visitors are incredibly satisfied and loyal to the site. CHSE improves visitor trust and satisfaction but does not affect a destination's image. Image influences visitor trust but not satisfaction. Visitors' loyalty is unaffected by visitors' trust. Visitor loyalty is highly influenced by visitor satisfaction. The data reveals that the CHSE program is still vital during the COVID-19 pandemic because it boosts tourist trust and satisfaction.

Abstract

The existence of formal pasraman (a specific educational institution based on Hinduism) was firstly welcomed warmly by Balinese people. Nevertheless, this existence is being destabilized because the existing formal pasraman experiences several limitations on fulfillment of educational standard requirements. This research observes the challenges of formal pasraman in Bali to subsist as a formal educational institution. Applying qualitative approach, this research collected data through observation, interview, and document study techniques. Data were analyzed eclectically using three theories, namely hegemony theory, structural functionalism, and innovation diffusion. This research discovered diverse obstructions faced by formal pasraman with the aim of continuing to subsist as a formal educational institution, mainly having been the struggle of formal pasraman to be registered in Basic Education Data (Dapodik) and to be broadly acknowledged by the people of Bali.

Abstract

The Julah Village in North Bali is known for its traditional ikat cloth crafts. However, the number of weavers is currently declining, which is due in part to the regeneration problem. This research examines factors contributing to the shortage of ikat weaving, and it comes to the conclusion that the absence of regeneration in the inheritance process is the primary cause. Following closely behind is the need for a variety of processes in weaving production, and finally, a prolonged and expensive process for producing ikat. There are a number of initiatives that can be performed to help encourage younger generations to be interested in weaving, such as socialization, enculturation, and collaboration using tradition-based regulations. The lack of Julah Traditional Ikat weaving signifies that it's impracticable to perform religious rituals, which is the implication of scarcity in the religious system. This article offers Jari Manis strategy (Julah Mandiri, Manjemen, Investasi or Julah Independent, Management, and Investment) to stimulate weaving production, including for the local younger generation.
