Abstract

Islamization of the archipelago, especially in Java, took place peacefully in Demak period of the XV - XVI centuries. The retribution of walisanga with its sufism teachings was able to embrace Javanese mysticism in the embrace of Islam. The realization of this attitude of peace (penetration pacifique) without conflict shows that sufism has played an attitude of moderation such as appreciation, tolerance, and inclusive attitude so as to attract the sympathy of Hindu-Javanese mystics into Islam. This paper is intended to reveal how Islamic moderation occurs in Demak, for it is studied by an authentic Sufi manuscript published by Demak written by Sunan Bonang under the title Suluk Syeh Bari. This manuscript is studied using the content analysis method by prioritizing the concept of moderation. This study concludes that Suluk Syeh Bari by Sunan Bonang is the foundation for the teachings of moderate Islamic Sufism since the beginning of Islamization in Java.   His moderation teachings include 1) inclusive attitudes in the spirit of divinity, 2) perfection of the soul, realizing noble, wise, and open minded. 3) Open attitude and tolerance towards others through the teachings of Sufism, Ridlo, and always happy. 4) Respect religious acculturation. This attitude will be inherited by his two students, namely Sunan Kalijaga and Syeh Siti Jenar, who gave birth to acculturative Islam (Islam of the archipelago).

Abstract

Scientific problems are indeed an interesting issue to be researched. Moreover, seeing the development of science globally in the West is not based on God’s revelation and guidance. Although this knowledge can then produce technology that facilitates human life’s affairs, this convenience is accompanied by nature exploitation and destructive moral degradation. This Western view of life is certainly not compatible with the monotheistic Islamic point of view. Given the differences in seeing reality and truth, scientific studies need to be reconstructed and linked to religion as a form of applicative integrative method that does not place religion as a foreign matter in science. In response, Muslim scholars offered alternative ideas in a discourse on the integration of religion and science called the Islamization of contemporary science. With the critical analysis method, the authors sought to reveal the dimensions of Islamization that could touch the root of the science problem (epistemological) and answer the scientific development problems. Islamization is expected to be a universal framework that not only can be used by Muslims but also non-Muslims.

Abstract

The ideology of Marxism that was a response to capitalism is considered a comprehensive view of life. Its emergence in the midst of oppression is seen as a significant solution. In fact, it is called a complete theoretical system. Marx with his ideology endeavour to defend and stop the exploitation of the proletariat caused by the capitalist bourgeoisie. This research is a qualitative library research. Sources of data were obtained from several books, journals and literatures that have relevance to this research. While the analytical method used is a critical analysis method using an Islamic worldview approach. The aim of this study is to explain the concept of Marxism then analyze and criticize it with an Islamic worldview. The results of this study explain that the ideology of Marxism seems to provide a solution but in fact it brings more complex problems. Instead of prospering humans from the alienation of the capitalist system, this ideology actually alienates humans in another way, namely distancing humans from private property which is clearly allowed in Islam. This ideology has even alienated humans from their religion. The conclusion is that Marx is not fundamental in his efforts to provide solutions. He only looks at the economic aspect even though in this life there are various aspects. His solution is partial and does not move integrally as is the case in Islam.

Abstract

Inclusive theology manifests itself in religious plurality, particularly in Indonesia, a pluralistic country with many diverse races, ethnicities, and religions. Islam, through its holy text Al-Qur'an, instructs its people to appreciate one another and forbids religious disputes. This paper attempts to reinterpret the verses of religious tolerance by combining the theme interpretation method and content analysis with an inclusive theological approach to address the challenge of interpreting the verses of tolerance. This paper leads to an understanding that a pluralist mindset is required in building inter-religious interactions in Indonesia by embracing the reality of other religions while maintaining one's Muslim identity.
