Abstract

Vernacular architecture has been developed to fulfill human need and to encourage their live, which make architecture has close relationship with human culture(Rapoport, 1969). These process make vernacular building has a uniqueness, such as :a) non-engineered construction in response to the needs of their occupants, b) Struggle with their physical environment, c) it cannot be separated from locality, d) ecological wisdom. Such holistic approach promotes architecture should have paradigms : 1) buildings which physically last long, require little maintenance, and save in energy, 2) the way architecture and environment ought to be in fostering man’s spirit. Kampung Adat (indigenous) Mahmud as urban kampong has implemented climate-adaptive technology in sustaining the built enviroment which such vernacular wisdom. The aim of the research is to get better understanding how community of the Kampong could do climate-adaptive technology, which includes : 1) to identify and to evaluate climate challenge, 3) to analyse technology as adaptation to climate, 4) to evaluate the effectiveness each technology, 5) to develop the potential of climate adaptive technology. The methodology of research is qualiative descriptive, which based on observation and actual measurement. The useful of the research is: 1) to get better understanding of local technology in adapting to climate, 2)to develop such adaptive technology. Such principles must be applied in : 1) House Shape which can better minimize or withstand the impact of natural disaster, 2) Building method; sustainable construction practices are low cost, practical and environmentally appropriate, 3)Building Components, 4)Building Materials, which are either made fromnaturally available sources or from organic raw materials.

Abstract

Many local companies were that engaged in the manufacturing of coffee beans into semi-finished carelessly ready for export. To maintain the product to fit customer demand, it is very necessary quality control. The problems are the following: (1) The destruction of coffee still within the limits of control or not. (2) Any type of damage that occurs in coffee product were produced. (3) The factors that cause damage to the coffee product. (4) Application of statistical tools in controlling product quality coffee and pressing the occurrence of damage to the product. This study aims to determine how the implementation of quality control using statistical tools useful in efforts to control the level of damage to the product in the company. P control chart analysis results indicate that the process is in a state of uncontrolled or still experiencing irregularities. Based on Pareto diagram, priority repairs that need to be done is for the dominant type of damage that the black seed (25.68%), broken seeds (19.23%), brown seeds (17.60%) and more than a hollow seeds (15.99%). the causal diagram analysis can be seen from the factors that cause damage to human factors/workers, machine production, work methods, materials/raw materials and the work environment, so the company can take precautions and repair the damage.

Abstract

This research was conducted to study the use of artificial pozzolanic material (portlandpozzolana cement or PPC) and natural pozzolanic material (fly ash) to improve quality of strontium liquid waste cementation in saline environment during nuclear waste immobilization process. The portland cement was mixed with 10 v/0 strontium liquid waste (water containing 65 ppm Sr(II)), 0.3 water-cement ratios (w/c), 20 v/0 fly ash, -40 mesh to -60 mesh sand. Similar process was performed using commercial portlandpozzolana cement (PPC). Compressive strength test after cured the block cements for 28 days was performed using pressing machine. To study leaching rate test, 10 ml contaminated saline water was sampled from immersion of cement block with 1 liter saline water for 21 days. Hitachi Zeeman 8000 Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer was used for analyzing leaching rate test. All cement blocks showed the results above than 2.5 N/mm2 of IAEA standard during strength test. The fly ash showed 103-105% higher strength test than commercial PPC in all grain size. But the fly ash showed 4-5% less durable during leaching rate than commercial PPC during 21 days immersion. All the cement blocks showed the results above than IAEA standard during leaching rate test. The addition of natural pozzolanic material (fly ash) could improve the strength of strontium liquid waste cementation. In other hand, the artificial pozzolanic material could improve the durability from leaching rate of strontium liquid waste cementation

Abstract

in this research we examine aspects of the interdependence between economic development and the use of environmental and natural resources assets from global data published by united nations.  for that purpose, we use data mining techniques.data mining techniques applied in this paper were: 1) group method of data handling (gmdh), originally from engineering, introducing principles of evolution - inheritance, mutation and selection - for generating a network structure systematically to develop the automatic model, synthesis, and its validation; 2) step wise regression were also applied for some cases.data sets for this research consist of one sets integration data of air quality data and macroeconomic data of the cross-country data of world development indicator 2003 (wdi 2003).  the result shows that the mortality rate of children under five years old is dependent on sanitation and water facilities obtained from gmdh results. however, the results from step-wise regression shows that mortality rate was dependent on annual deforestation, particulate matter, nationally protected area, with the big contribution was from annual deforestation.

Abstract

The increasing of fossil energy consumption and will be limited of fossil energy source, cause important to develope alternative energy. One of alternative energy is energy from biomass waste, like agriculture and forestry waste. Those biomass wastes contain cellulose, hemicellulose and lignin. The utilization technology of biomass waste could be done by thermochemical and biochemical process. Direct combustion, gasification, convertion to solid fuel and esterification are the termochemical process, that produce heat supply generator , flameable gas, solid fuel and diesel fuel. Anaerobic digestion and ethanol fermentation are the biochemical convertion, that produce methane gas and ethanol. The energy bioconverrtion technology to convert ethanol from biomass waste are pretreatment, hydrolysis, fermentation, distillation and dehydration.

Abstract

People can start with "bring your own shopping bag" as a green purchasing behavior to build the awareness of reduce the usage of plastic bags in order to protect the environment. There are some predictors that can be influenced the green purchasing behavior, i.e. social influence, environmental attitudes, environmental concern, perceived seriousness of environmental problems, perceived seriousness of environmental behavior, perceived environmental responsibility, concern for self-image in environmental protection, and the government’s role. All predictors not influence directly to the green purchasing behavior. There is one variable that mediating between all predictors with the green purchasing behavior, namely green behavior intention. Besides that, the significant influence of all predictors of green purchasing behavior can be different from one place to another place. Seeing these phenomena, this study aims to determine which predictors that influence the green purchasing behavior of community in the Kecamatan Tembalang to   carrying their own shopping bag which is mediated by green behavior intention. The proposed model that use in this study is tested via a questionnaire collected from 100 respondents. After questionnaire collected, the Partial Least Squares (PLS) approach was used to analyze the research model of this study. The results of this study showed that green behavior intention has significant impact on green purchasing behavior and green behavior intention of peoples in Kecamatan Tembalang is positively influenced by three predictors i.e. of environmental attitudes, perceived seriousness of environmental problems, and concern for self-image in environmental protection. The result of this study also showed that the perception of concern for the environment is influenced by occupation. Finally, based on some predictors that influence green behavior intention of peoples in Kecamatan Tembalang, this study proposes a number of strategies that can reduce plastic bag usage by Tembalang communities, namely: informational strategy, consequence strategy, and structural strategy.

Abstract

In general bending loads acting on structural elements of concrete beams arrested by the bottom cross secttion on the compression area while the tension area is ignored. Therefore, it is reasonable if the concrete beam section on the tension area is minimized with concrete mass reduction in tensile region by ignoring concrete tensile stress while receiving static loads or the area is filled with styrofoam concrete (styrocon). One effort to effeciency concrete economic value by reducing the concrete and use of styrocon thus component volume of natural materials, such as sand mining, coarse aggregate, and cement and weight of construction becomes smaller. Styrofoam as waste can be used as filler to reduce the volume of concrete, especially for areas where the concrete section is not working mechanically. In an effort to study the flexural strength of external reinforced concrete beams and styrofoam-filled composite, then performed a series of tests. Test material in the form of beams with dimensions of 15 cm x 20 cm x 270 cm. Test material consisted of normal beam quality 26.0 MPa concrete with transverse reinforcement as a control beam and test materials with external transverse reinforced and truss systems and styrofoam-filled composite. In the normal-styrocon composite beams with various content of styrofoam. Beam placed on 2 simple supports with 2 point loading test method. Results showed flexural capacity of the normal concrete beam is 36.7 kN, but the external reinforced beams decreased 30.6 kN, but external reinforced truss system beams is relatively equal 35.8 kN. But external reinforced beams prone to corrosion and fire and require maintenance. Therefore used styrocon on the outer portion with styrofoam content of 30%, 40%, and 50% who had a flexural strength of each 33.8 kN, 31.0 kN and 29.0 kN. It can be concluded that the use of composite concrete beams normal-styrocon can efficiency use natural materials to reduce the weight of the concrete beam and construction as well as having environmental aspects by using the waste.
