Abstract

Penilaian teman sebaya formatif memiliki peran penting dalam memantau performa belajar peserta didik di kelas. Dalam Kurikulum Merdeka Belajar, penilaian teman sebaya formatif adalah sebuah metode penilaian yang efektif untuk meningkatkan kemampuan kognitif, psikomotor, dan afektif peserta didik. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menelusuri persepsi dan tantangan yang dihadapi peserta didik SMP dalam menerapkan penilaian teman sebaya formatif selama kegiatan presentasi lisan. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dan dilakukan dengan melibatkan 5 peserta didik kelas VII di salah satu SMP di Sidoarjo. Data penelitian ini dikumpulkan dengan menggunakan kuesioner terbuka dan sesi wawancara. Sumber data penelitian diambil dari jawaban peserta didik yang ada di kuesioner dan wawancara. Analisis data digunakan sebagai evaluasi dari implementasi penilaian teman sebaya formatif dalam presentasi lisan di tingkat SMP. Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa penilaian teman sebaya formatif membantu peserta didik SMP dalam mempersiapkan tugas, fokus selama sesi kegiatan presentasi lisan, meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kritis dan evaluatif, mengembangkan kepercayaan diri, dan mengenali kelebihan dan kelemahan teman mereka secara mendalam. Di sisi lain, beberapa peserta didik justru mendapatkan keluhan, menemukan kesulitan dalam menentukan nilai, ulasan, dan pertanyaan yang sesuai serta menemukan adanya tindakan kecurangan selama kegiatan penilaian teman sebaya formatif. Selain dari keuntungan dan kerugiannya, penilaian teman sebaya formatif dapat dipertimbangkan sebagai metode penilaian alternatif bagi para peserta didik SMP selama melaksanakan kegiatan presentasi lisan. Diharapkan, penelitian ini dapat dikembangkan oleh peneliti lain di lingkup pendidikan yang lebih luas.

Abstract

Learning vocabulary becomes one of the challenges in language learning. Choosing the right media will help the student to gain new words. Utilizing stories uploaded into digital applications in learning vocabulary can be helpful. This study aims to seek whether Voicethread as the media delivering story improves vocabulary mastery of junior high school students and to find students’ perception of digital storytelling to improve vocabulary mastery. This research is experimental research using quantitative descriptive methods.  There are pre-test and post-test to seek the increasing number of new vocabulary. Also, there is a questionnaire to find the students’ perception of using Voicethread in vocabulary learning. The result of the study reveals that students’ vocabulary increased. The students give positive responses to the use of digital storytelling and recommend using digital storytelling in vocabulary learning. The result also indicates that digital storytelling influences motivation to study independently.

Abstract

ABSTRACTA language is a communication tool used by every human being in everyday life. People used their language to communicate with each other to help deliver the information. Meanwhile, Indonesians lack grammar, especially to studying from unreliable sources, such as listening to songs. This research is trying to analyze the grammatical error in Justin Bieber’s song lyrics and identify the most frequent type of errors found in Justin Bieber’s song lyrics. This is descriptive qualitative research and the data instrument used in this research is data analysis. The result shows that there were three types of grammatical errors contained in Justin Bieber's song lyrics, such as Subject-Verb Agreement, Indefinite Pronouns, and Prepositions. The grammatical error contains 7 grammatical errors found in the subject-verb agreement, 5 grammatical errors found in the Indefinite Pronouns, and 1 grammatical error found in the preposition. However, the subject-verb agreement is the most frequent grammatical error used in Justin Bieber’s song lyrics.Keywords: Grammatical Error, Justin Bieber’s Songs, Lyrics

Abstract

Students always have difficulty in writing composition using English. This encourages teachers to conduct research. The purpose of study is to improve students' motivation and ability in writing descriptive text, using social media and photo comics. The social media used in this research are Youtube and Whatsapp which support the learning process. Meanwhile, the photo comic used in this study is expected to be of interest to students, so that it can encourage students to be motivated in learning English, including being eager to write Descriptive Text. Because students interested in photo comics and make them easy to write. Students are helped to make some sentences by images of photo comic. The method used in this research is Project Based Learning (PBL). The subjects are 7th grade students of SMPN 8 Surakarta in second semester 2021/2022. Students had to achieve the Base Competence of English Curriculum 7th grade 4.7.2 that is Compiling oral and written descriptive texts, very short and simple, related to people, animals, and objects that they like by paying attention to social functions, text structure, and linguistic elements, correctly and in context. The results showed that social media and photo comics are very effective in increasing students' motivation and ability to write descriptive text. They are very interesting and effective sources of ideas for students in writing the text. Finally, students increased their motivation and ability in writing Descriptive Text, and also can reach the Base Competence of English curriculum of 7th grade (KD 4.7.2.).

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to see how English lecturers’ perceptions of the use of social media for English Language teaching. This study is limited to 4 aspects (Activities, Motivation, Enhancing students’ skills, and effectiveness). This research was conducted at the English Department at a university in Surabaya using social media for teaching English by lecturers. This study using a case study design and semi-structured interview, by organizing, interpreting, and representing the data. A total of 8 lecturers have participated to be interviewed to know about their perception on the use of social media for English Language Teaching. The results showed that the social media most primarily used by the English lecturers are WhatsApp and Email. The result of the interviews showed about the four aspects that had been determined. They are; 1). Activities when using social media in teaching English; discussion, communication, sharing subjects’ materials, collecting an assignment, giving assignments. 2). The use of Social media can increase students and lecturers’ motivation; improving learning motivation, active, creative, increasing self-confidence, and interesting. 3). The use of social media can enhance students’ English skills; enhancing speaking skill, writing skill, pronunciation, vocabulary. 4). The effectiveness of social media use in teaching English; easy to access, easy to understand, easy to use, easy to be practiced.

Abstract

ABSTRACTThis study aims to explore how the main character who hopes that he can turn into a complete human is told in the form of short stories and films. This study focuses on 2 texts with a female main character who is a beautiful mermaid, namely The Little Mermaid by Hans Christian Andersen (1837) and Walt Disney (1989). The two main female characters in the story are explained through the actential theory of A.J. Greimas. The focus of this research is the similarity of subjects but has different objects in the form of happiness defined by the main character. The findings of this study include: 1) The object in Hans Christian Andersen’s The Little Mermaid story is eternal life, while The Little Mermaid in Walt Disney version is married with a prince; 2) The opponent of both stories which is kind of happiness defined by the main character.Keywords: Fairy Tales, Happiness, True Love

Abstract

Social anxiety is excessive fear and worry when someone is with other people and feels anxious in social situations. The main character featured in the manga Komi-san wa, Komyushou desu shows behavior that is allegedly a symptom of social anxiety disorder which is influenced by 3 aspects namely fear of negative evaluation, social avoidance and distress new, and social avoidance and distress general and characterized by 3 symptoms, namely somatic symptoms, cognitive and emotional symptoms, and behavioral symptoms. The purpose of this study was to find out what aspects influence social anxiety and to find out the description of the symptoms of social anxiety in the main character Komi Shouko. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method with a psychological approach. From the research that has been done, it is concluded that there are symptoms of social anxiety disorder experienced by Komi Shouko, and of the three symptoms, Komi Shouko dominantly shows behavioral symptoms as an attempt to hide reactions from cognitive and emotional symptoms, and somatic symptoms. And in terms of aspects, Komi's social anxiety is more influenced by aspects social avoidance and distress new and general, because they feel pressured towards new or unfamiliar people or in public places, and avoidance to calm down.

Abstract

Reading comprehension will be more effective when readers know what meaning they have understood about the text's theme. The problem in teaching and learning to read is that the teacher still does not improve students' reading comprehension skills and allows students to only read the text without understanding the meaning in the reading text. This causes students to be complex and confused by interpreting the reading text. Another problem is that students need instructional media to keep them from getting bored in reading classes during a pandemic. One interesting instructional media is implementing the Jamboard Platform in learning reading comprehension in descriptive text. Some of the objectives of this research are to find out how to implement and students' perceptions of the implementation of the Jamboard platform are in learning reading comprehension in descriptive texts studied by students at the junior high school level. This study used a qualitative method with 30 participants in class VII at one of the junior high schools in Sidoarjo obtained from field notes, questionnaires, and semi-structured interviews. This study is successful in helping students improve their reading comprehension skills. Furthermore, students also show positive perceptions in motivation, increasing critical thinking and keeping them from getting bored during online reading. The students support the implementation of Jamboard in learning to read because they are interested in new things and have fun during the lesson. The researcher suggests to teachers and future researchers to apply Jamboard to other English skills or other types of texts.

Abstract

This study aims at determining the women’s language features produced by Najwa Zebian in the podcast Stories of The Souls and its functions of women’s language. This research utilized a descriptive qualitative method to analyze the data. Data were utterances produced by Najwa Zebian indicating women language’s features. The findings of this research revealed that Najwa did not use all of the women’s language features in the podcast Stories of The Soul. The study identified nine women’s language features occurred, such as lexical hedges or fillers, tag questions, rising intonation , hypercorrect grammar , intensifiers as the most dominant used by Najwa in the podcasts, super polite forms , empty adjectives , avoidance of strong swear words , and emphatic stress . However, the result did not give the occurrence of precise color terms. This study also found several functions of women’s language features. All of the functions are applied to the features in the podcast, including expressing uncertainty, starting a discussion, expressing feelings, and softening an utterance.

Abstract

Information and communication technology development has been massive in the last decades. This development allows teachers to utilize internet based applications such as Kahoot! as a learning tool. This present study was conducted to reveal the perception of secondary level students about the use of Kahoot! in learning narrative text. The participants of this study are 66 students of a junior high school in Sidoarjo. The study uses the quantitative method to collect and analyze the data. This study shows that students see Kahoot! in a positive way. They find Kahoot! as a learning tool that may help them improve their activities in class with an engaging environment, resulting in higher academic achievement.
