Abstract

The cattle-oil palm integration system (SISKA) is an alternative livestock business development that utilizes the synergy between oil palm plantations and beef cattle. However, the implementation of this system at the farmer level is still limited. This study aims to analyze farmers' willingness to adopt the cattle-oil palm integration system and the factors that influence it in Keera District, Wajo Regency, South Sulawesi. The study was conducted in May–July 2025 using a survey method on 80 farmers selected purposively based on the Events per Variable (EPV) guidelines. Data analysis used binary logistic regression with independent variables including farmer characteristics, access to information, perceived benefits, group membership, extension intensity, and capital support. The results showed that perceived benefits and capital support significantly influenced farmers' willingness to adopt SISKA, while the variables of age, land area, farming experience, access to information, group membership, and extension intensity did not. Scientifically, these findings confirm that the adoption of innovations among smallholder plantation farmers is more influenced by perceived economic benefits and access to resources than by sociodemographic factors or formal institutions. Policy implications indicate the need for a SISKA development strategy that focuses on demonstrating tangible benefits and providing accessible financing schemes to reduce initial investment barriers for smallholder farmers, as well as developing extension strategies that are more tailored to the conditions of farmers in the study area.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the evaluation of reproductive management in beef cattle in Talun District, Blitar Regency, East Java. This research activity was carried out in Desember 2024 in Bajang Village, Talun District, Blitar Regency, East Java. The research material was all beef cattle farmers in Bajang Village, Talun District, Blitar Regency, East Java. The research method used was a case study using information gathering tools, namely observation, interviews, questionnaires and documentation. The variables in this study include various things such as age of first mating, puberty, Estrus Cycle, Post Partum Estrus, Post Partum Mating, Days Open, and Service Per Conception. Analysis of the results of the activity used descriptive analysis and compared with the literature. The results of the study showed that (1) The average age of first mating of female cattle in the research area was 19.3 months, (2) Puberty of female cattle occurred at an average age of 12.2 months, (3) The average estrus cycle lasted for 20.5 days, (4) Post Partum Estrus (PPE) occurred on average 69 days after parturition, (5) Post Partum Mating (PPM) was carried out on average 107 days after giving birth, (6) Days Open (empty period) lasted on average 5.2 months, (7) Service per Conception (S/C) on average was 1.97 times artificial insemination per pregnancy. The conclusion is that the reproductive management of beef cattle in Bajang Village, Talun District, Blitar Regency, showed quite good results, although there are still several challenges such as increasing the efficiency of artificial insemination and reducing the empty period more optimally.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the success rate of artificial insemination of Bali cattle at various parities at CV. Darmapuri Agro Semesta, Klungkung Regency, Bali. The research method used was a case study. The materials used in this study were data from 30 female Bali cattle of various parities. The samples were selected randomly. There are 5 treatments, namely P1 = 1st Parity, P2 = 2nd Parity, P3 = 3rd Parity, P4 = 4th Parity, and P5 = 5th Parity. The variables observed are Conception Rate (CR), Service Per Conception (S/C), and Non Return Rate (NRR). The data analysis used was descriptive analysis. The observation results showed that the NRR percentages were successively from the highest to the lowest values as follows: P3 (83.33%); P2 (66.67%); P1 (33.33%); P4 (33.33%) and P5 (16.67%); The percentage of CR in a row from highest to lowest value is as follows P3 (83.33%); P2 (50.00%); P4 (33.33); P1 (33.33); and P5 (16.67%). The S/C values are sequentially from highest to lowest as follows: P5 (4.67); P1 (3); P4 (2.6); P2 (1.8); and P3 (1.4). Based on the results of the observations that have been made, it can be concluded that the 3rd Parity, namely the NRR value of 83.33%; CR 83.33%; and S/C 1.4.

Abstract

Broiler chicken is consumed widely across Indonesia, particularly in South Sulawesi, where demand for broiler chicken continues to increase annually. South Sulawesi is a relatively large region with a substantial population, particularly in urban areas. This study aims to analyze broiler chicken price risk at the producer and consumer levels in South Sulawesi and identify factors influencing price volatility. Broiler chicken price volatility directly impacts the welfare of farmers and consumer purchasing power, particularly amidst seasonal demand dynamics and fluctuating feed costs. Secondary data was obtained from the Strategic Food Price Information Center (PIHPS) for the period January-December 2025. The method used to measure broiler chicken price risk is the coefficient of variation (CV). The results indicate that broiler chicken price risk is not entirely borne by producers, but rather by wholesalers. This finding aligns with agribusiness marketing theory, which states that market players in the middle of the marketing chain tend to bear greater risks.

Abstract

Broiler chicken farming is one of the rapidly growing agribusiness sectors that plays an important role in meeting the demand for animal protein. However, broiler farms located near residential areas may cause environmental impacts, such as unpleasant odors and waste pollution, which can affect the comfort of surrounding communities. This study aimed to analyze community perceptions of the environmental impacts caused by broiler chicken farming in Cakura Village, Polombangkeng Selatan District, Takalar Regency. This research employed a quantitative approach using a survey method. The population consisted of 160 residents living near broiler farms, and 61 respondents were selected as samples using the Slovin formula. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and questionnaires. The data were analyzed using descriptive quantitative analysis with a Likert scale to measure community perceptions regarding odor and waste impacts from broiler farming activities. The results showed that a significant portion of the community perceived disturbances caused by unpleasant odors originating from chicken manure and feed residues. In addition, farm waste was also considered a potential source of environmental pollution if not managed properly. Therefore, proper waste management and good sanitation practices in broiler farming are necessary to minimize environmental impacts and improve community acceptance of broiler farming activities.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effect of storage duration of corn cob-based complete feed silage on changes in nutritional content, including dry matter, crude protein, and crude fiber. The study used a completely randomized design with four treatments: no storage (P1), 2 weeks of storage (P2), 4 weeks (P3), and 6 weeks (P4), each with five replicates. Data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) and followed by Duncan's test at the 5% level. The results showed that different storage durations produced significant changes in all three nutritional components. Dry matter increased significantly from week 2 to week 6. Crude protein decreased during initial storage (up to week 2), then remained relatively stable until week 6. Crude fiber remained relatively stable until week 4 but decreased significantly by week 6. Overall, storage duration had a significant effect on the nutritional content of corn cob-based complete feed silage, with 4 weeks of storage showing a relatively more stable and optimal nutritional composition.
