Abstract

One of steps in improving the quality of a higher education or a university such as UIN Alauddin Makassar is by implementing various strategic movements, for example an institutional change. UIN Alauddin, formerly known as ‘State Islamic Institute (IAIN) of Alauddin Makassar’. The next development, in 2005, the institute changed its status into a university. Changes in the organization's environment, a shift in perspectives about the organization and its people challenge the organization to develop forward. Organization is alive, growing and able to demonstrate organisms, related to one another, where both characters can be described and measured. Basically, organizational capability is the ability of the organization to implement its purposes and functions in achieving specific goals setting previously. The ability of an organization could be measured from several aspects, for example: (1) leadership ability, (2) human resources, (3) facilities, infrastructure, and funding, and (4) the structural ability, organizational systems and the environment.

Abstract

This article critically analyses Western scholar’s views of Qur’anic transmission from the earlier era of Prophet Muhammad up to era ofunification of themushaf (Qur’an). Western scholars lie their skepticism to the authenticity of the Qur’an on the pre-assumsion that the Qur’an has been intervented by the Muslim scholar after the death of Muhammad, specially related to the text of Qur’an. So that, by using historical approach, the article displies the historical facts of Qur’anic transmission, and than analyzes how the Western Scholar deal with that facts. After analyzing with critical discourse method, the article concluded that in the time of Qur’anic transmission, there are many opened weakneses which were entered by Western scholar to say that the Qur’an was not genuine revealed from God, but there are any modifications in several pleaces of the versus. Eventhough, that opinion has been weak if arguedvis a viswith reliability and consistency of the text and context of Qur’an since the beginning of it’s collection. Besides, Arabics, as a permanent language of the Qur’an,  has a harmonious regularity and a beautiful style comparing with another literature works in the contemporary Islam.

Abstract

Official concept behind the term environment in the aspects of both teaching and scientific tradition of Islam does not have a concrete outlining such as the concept of neighborhood, which has been fitted in the framework of definition and scientific terminology. The conceptualization of environment in Islam implies rational comprehension of the kauniyah verses presented before men in addition to the qauliyah verses, which tends to be taken as explanation of nature and its whole contents.  The term environment is closely related to inseparable key words pertaining to the harmony of the environment, namely ecology and ecosystem. The word ecology is derived from Greek words oikos meaning household and logos meaning word science. Therefore, ecology can be defined as the study of the households of living beings.  The problem scrutinized in this study is concerning the concept of environmental preservation in the perspective of the Qur'an with a thematic exegesis method. To focus on, sub-problems related to the subject are formulated as follows: First: what is the definition of environment according to the Qur’an and what are the terms applied for that concept? Second: What are the efforts to conserve the environment? Third: How urgent is sustaining the environment to human survival?

Abstract

This paper discusses the concept of peace in the sosiologi of religion it is an attempt to understand the source of based on religion conflict in society. Indonesia is a plural country that has many cultures, ethnics, and religions. This diversity can cause conflict in society on behalf of those issues. Other issues that caused conflict are economic, political, and injustice reasons. Conflict that cause in security in society is contradicted with Islam and other religious. Doctrines Islam is a religion, that does not only promote love in peace, but it also appreciates diversity. One of the most important ways to overcome the problem is education, because it offers value and knowledge transformation to students. The second important ways to overcome the problem is the involvement of religious elites at social, economical, and political aspect. Another important way is the government of Indonesia have to support the implementation of curriculum concerning multicultural education.

Abstract

The issue of civil society or masyarakat madani has been enthusiastically discussed and associated with Islamic tradition, as the term madani itself is derived from Arabic and is regarded identical to Medina, the city in which the Prophet developed a Muslim community during his lifetime. Discussion of civil society structure becomes a choice in this description for there has been a new conception concerning the birth of a "second volume" civilized society after Medina. In fact, establishment of the concept be referred to as a "revolutionary reformation". It is indicated in the revelation of one short chapter in the Qur'an upon the Prophet’s performance of hajj wada’ (farewell pilgrimage). The verse Says "... and you see people enter the religion of Allah in droves."  Elaboration on this paper is focused more on exposure to the traditions of the Prophet pertaining to the issues examined. Through the investigation conducted, it is discovered that there were many sayings and actions of the Prophet on the events of fath Makkah and hajj wada’ which led the birth of a new political order.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan mengungkap efektivitas mediasi dalam penyelesaian perkara secara damai di Pengadilan Agama wilayah Pengadilan Tinggi Agama Makassar, hambatan yang mempengaruhi pelaksanaan mediasi di Pengadilan Agama wilayah Pengadilan Tinggi Agama Makassar, serta pandangan hukum Islam terhadap penerapan mediasi di Pengadilan Agama. Pendekatan yang dipergunakan untuk melihat dan memecahkan permasalahan adalah filosofis syar'i, filosofis yuridis, analisis sosiologis sempiris, serta maslahat. Ditemukan fakta bahwa mediasi belum efektif menanggulangi tumpukan perkara di wilayah Pengadilan Tinggi Agama Makassar, profesionalisme hakim yang menjalankan fungsi mediator sangat lemah dan mempengaruhi keberhasilan mediasi di Pengadilan Agama wilayah Pengadilan Tinggi Agama Makassar, serta penerapan mediasi di Pengadilan Agama tidak bertentangan dengan hukum Islam. Masyarakat pencari keadilan di Pengadilan Agama sangat bermanfaat mempergunakan mediasi dalam menyelesaikan perkaranya sehingga berimplikasi terhadap keutuhan keluarga dan terpeliharanya harta yang dipersengketakan dari kehancuran.

Abstract

Lack of concern towards ethics in politics is a major problem occurring in political practice. This, indeed, opposes the noble mission of politics as an art of state management. Hence, it needs a commitment to deal with political ethics as a behavior synergic with political acts. Moreover, it is necessary to consider that political ethics should ideally become political identity. Based on this, this article will discuss political ethics in contemporary Islam based on Mohammed Arkoun's perspective. Through content analysis of his works, this article will explore Arkoun's criticism toward established concept of "Madinah State" particularly in its relation to political ethics. According to Arkoun, epistemology in Islam should be considered as historical product which is merely applicable in a particular time. Product of thought may not be relevant in all conditions and space; therefore, it cannot be implemented without time constrains. Most of Muslim intellectuals firmly believe that Madinah State is an ideal model of Islamic state. In Arkoun's viewpoint, this belief may only be applicable during the Caliphate periods, approximately between 622 AD. and 1258 AD. He emphasizes that there are no Qur'anic or Hadith texts enforcing Muslims to obey the system of Madinah State. The most important one, in his opinion, is political ethics due to its very essential and universal entity. What has happened along the history of a state may be applied to improve and influence its established political system. In this context, political ethics is not merely about whether a state is either Islamic or secular, but it is about a state that consistently implements ethics in its political system.

Abstract

This essay affirms that Imam Abu Hanifah was a hadith expert (muhaddits). This thesis is a conclusion from analysis of related data based on hadith criticism approach and conventional paradigm of hadith theory. The variables used as a measure are his individual integrity, known as al-‘adalah (moral integrity) and al-dhabth (intellectual integrity), role in hadith narration process (tahammul wa ada’ al-hadis), contribution in hadith critic and terminology, and elaboration of the criteria of the hadith validity. Based on these variables, this essay finds that Abu Hanifah’s moral and intellectual integrity are recognized by a number of popular hadith critics, such as Ali al-Madini, Sufyan al-Tsauriy, Ibn al-Mubarak ect., and the hadith narrated by him in fact reached a relatively large amount, and that can be seen in the compilations by Abu al-Mu’ayyad al-Khawarizmi, Jami’ al-Masanid, and by Hasan al-Syaibaniy, Kitab al-Atsar. In addition, Abu Hanifah also contributed significantly to the formation and discussion of hadith terminology. His concept of hadis masyhur and of the criteria of the hadith validity has, for an example, inspired the scholars who have come and lived after his period time.  This essay, therefore, argues against the views of some scholars who have discredited him in the field of hadith, and who have considered him as jurist only. To sum up, Abu Hanifah deserves to be put in an equivalent position as his counterparts, the other three founders of Islamic law schools, in both Islamic law and hadith; he is an outstanding jurist as well as muhaddith.

Abstract

Women and politics has been an interesting subject of discussion not only among political observers and pursuant of women studies, but also among Islamic scientists. The central question raised is to what extent women may undergo opportunities to participate in activities of political nuance. In this context, women’s political participation has become an issue that requires a sound reference in the Quran and Hadith. This is necessary in order to provide flexibility for women to engage in any political activities without being hindered by theological excuses frequently used to hold them back. This paper seeks to present sound reference from the Quran and Hadith as well as additional support structures to see the extent of women’s privilege to participate in politics. Studies of the Qur’an and Hadith show that although some verses of the Qur'an and the Prophetic traditions may seem to suggest certain limitations which brings about impacts on women’s restriction in political sphere, in fact those particular verses and hadith require a further interpretation with regards to social condition contemporary to their time of revelation. At the same time, it was discovered that more verses and prophetic traditions affirm the aspect of equality of men and women to engage in various activities, including those of the politics.

Abstract

This article examines the equitableness of the Prophet’s companion (‘adalah al-sahabah) through historical and methodological perspective. The term of ‘adl means ‘straight’, ‘balance’,  ‘impartial’ or ‘put something on the right place’. In the Hadith perspective, ‘adl (equitably) is a man who constantly commands the right and forbids the wrong. Thus, its clear that ‘adl is a nature or a character of somebody which lead him to the right action. The term of ‘sahabah’ rooted from sa-hi-ba means ‘owner’ or ‘accompany’. In Hadith perspective, sahabah is a man who had been living along with The Prophet Muhammad for a or several years or involved once or several times in a war together with The Prophet Muhammad. Sahabah also means a man who met The Prophet Muhammad in the belief circumstances. Majority of ulamas (muslim scholar) said that the ‘adalah al-sahabah is guaranteed, so that they do not have to be criticized. However, the debate of ‘adalah al-sahabah among ulamas can be deal with redefinition of ‘adl as this article aims.
