Abstract

This study aims to determine the antimicrobial activity of lactic acid bacteria isolate from soybean epiderm against pathogens Escherichia coli 0157 and Staphylococcus aureus ATCC-25329. The experiment was conducted experimentally using Randomized Complete Design (RAL) with three treatments and five replications to obtain 15 experimental units. The treatment used lactic acid bacteria isolates from soybean epiderm namely K.12.3, K.13.1 and K.22.1 tested in petri dish that already contained pathogenic bacteria Staphylococcus aureus ATCC-25923 and Escherichia coli 0157. Antimicrobial activity was tested using well agar diffusion method and the data obtained were analyzed using ANOVA and continued with DNMRT advanced test at 5% level. The results showed that the lactic acid bacteria of the soybean epiderm had a greater inhibition against Escherichia coli 0157 compared with Staphylococcus aureus ATCC-25923. Isolate K.13.1 was not significantly different in inhibiting Escherichia coli 0157 which resulted in inhibition zone of 8.313 mm and Staphylococcus aureus ATCC-25923 with inhibition zone of 6.960 mm. Mean while, the cell-free supernatant K.22.1 isolate significantly different in inhibiting Escherichia coli 0157 with inhibition zone of 6.860 mm and Staphylococcus aureus ATCC-25923 resulted in inhibition zone of 5.760 mm. Abstract

The rubber shell contain beneficial compounds lignin and cellulose which is quite high and has not been utilized optimally. Therefore, this study aims to take advantage of rubber shell as the main material for the manufacturing of charcoal briquettes and charcoal briquettes obtain formulations are of good quality. This study was conducted experimentally using Complete Random Design (CRD) with 4 treatments and 4 replications and continued with Duncan’s New Multiple Range Test (DNMRT) at 5% level. Treatments at this research were P1 (adhesive 3%), P2 (adhesive 5%), P3 (adhesive 7%), P4 (adhesive  9%). Results of the analysis of variance indicate that the ratio of adhesive has a significant effect on water content, ash content, density, volatile content, carbon content, and calorific value. The best formulation was obtained from 5% adhesive that had 5.52% water content, ash content 15.47%, 0.46 g/cm3 density, 13.47 vapour content, 65.52 tied carbon, and heating value 5.153.03 cal/g. Keywords : charcoal, rubber shell, charcoal briquttes

Abstract

This subject proposes to find out the result of oil palm seed immersion in various concentrations of KNO3 and to get the best KNO3 concentration on germination and outgrowth. This research has been conducted at Plant Breeding and Experimental Plantation Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, University of Riau. The study was conducted for 4 months from Agust to December 2016. The experiment was conducted experimentally using Completely Randomized Design (CRD) consisting of 4 treatments and 5 replications. The treatment of soaking of scarificated oil palm seed in KNO3 (K) concentration for 20 hours consisted of K0 (soaking without KNO3), K1 (0.2%), K2 (0.4%), K3 (0.6%). Parameters observed were ; germination time, index value test, percentage of sprouts, radicle length, plumule length, seed height, and seedling dry weight. The data obtained were analyzed statistically by using analysis of variance and means separation with Duncan Multiple Range Test at 5%. The result showed that soaking of oil palm seed in KNO3 solution had a significant effect on sprouts, germination percentage, radicle length, plumule length and dry weight of seedlings. Soaking of oil palm seed in a KNO3 solution with a concentration of 0.4% for 20 hours can accelerate when sprouts appearing from 22.4 days to 6.8 days, and increase germination rates from 34.4% to 53.6%. Key Words : Oil palm seed, dormancy, KNO3 and germination

Abstract

Agroforestry is one of the land management systems that can be offered to overcome the problem of forest land convertion. The success of agroforestry  plant growth is influenced by aspects of which are protection from pests. Pest attacks can decrease the potential of standing, both quality and quantity. This study aims to determine the intensity of pest attacks on agroforestry of teak stand (Tectona grandis). Research activities carried out on the Rajawali Sakti street Simpang Baru village Tampan districts. The method used in this research is random sampling. The area covered is 3 Ha with sample intensity of 10% that is 0,3 Ha. An observation plot was made of 10 m x 10 m of 30 plots. The research indicate that the intensity of pest attack on stand of teak is amount to 22,13% which is included in the category of minor damage. Pests that attack teak plants such as caterpillar teak (Hibea puera), white lice (Paracoccus marginatus), white butterfly (Bemisia tabaci), termites (Neotermes tectonae) dan black ants (Polyrhachis Spp). Keywords : Agroforestry, Teak stands (Tectona grandis), Pest, Intensity of attack (IS).

Abstract

Januari s/d Juni 2019 This study aims to identify the external factors of the P3A group  production unit affecting the  off succes agricultur bisnis of tidal rice fields in Indragiri Hilir Regency and analyze the relationship of external factors of the P3A group as a production unit to support the success of tidal rice farming in Indragiri Hilir Regency. Research has been carried out in Indragiri Hilir Regency. This study condacted from September 2016 - February 2017, using a survey method with descriptive analysis and regression and correlation. The results of this study indicate that the majority of P3A members of tidal lowland rice in Indragiri Hilir Regency have high school education down, male, productive age, have small dependents, have a narrow land area, the majority work on their own land and P3A external factors play a role in increasing the production of lowland rice in Indragiri Hilir Regency only agricultural extension workers. Agricultural extension agents have a significant relationship to the increase in productivity of tidal paddy rice in the P3A group, namely extension activities for P3A members will increase tidal rice production in Indragiri Hilir by 0.153 ton.ha-1.Keywords: Lowland rice, tides, farmer associations

Abstract

This study was conducted to determine the optimization of production of bioethanol with a combination of coconut water, tween80 and NPK as nutrient Saccharomyces cerevisiae to produce ethanol using a fermentation technique Very High Gravity Fermentation. This research was conducted experiments with four treatments and measurement in duplicate. Combination of NPK levels are U1 (0.2%), U2 (0.4%), U3 (0.6%) and U4 (0.8%). Observations were made every 24 hours; covering sugar, ethanol content, the number of cells, and pH. Data were analyzed descriptively by using a tabular or graphical. The best treatment is a combination of U4 (NPK 0.8%) which resulted in the largest ethanol 11%. Keywords:Coconut water, tween80, NPK, Bioethanol, Very High Gravity Fermentation

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to obtain best combination composite flour (wheat flour, sago starch, corn flour) on the quality of white bread produced. This research was carried out experimentally using completely randomized design (CRD) with five treatments and four replications in order obtain twenty experiment units. The treatments in this study were TSJ0 (100% wheat flour), TSJ1 (70%wheat flour :30% sago starch), TSJ2 (70% flour : 20% sago starch : 10% corn flour), TSJ3 (70% wheat flour : 10% sago starch : 20% corn flour) and TSJ4 (70% wheat flour : 30% corn flour). Data obtained were treated by the analysis of variance folowed by Duncan New Multiple Range Test (DMRT) the level of 5%. The results showed that the addition of sago starch and corn flour at different concentration levels significantlyaffectedon the moisture, ash, protein, fat and carbohydrate contents as well as, hedonic test, descriptive test the colour, aroma, flavor and texture of white bread. The best treatment was TSJ3, with a moisture content of 24.33%, ash content of 1.03%, fat content5.67%, protein content of 8.05%,carbohydrate levels60.92%, as well as sensory acceptable by panelist.Keywords: white bread, sago starch, corn flour.

Abstract

Soybean (Glycine max (L). Merril) is one of grain-producing crops which has high value of nutrition and has been cultivated in Indonesia since the 16th century. Soybean plays an  important role in human diet as alternative source of protein and oil. The aim of this research is to determine the response of soybean varieties on planting density and to determine the suitable planting space for specific varieties to be used in cultivating soybean. A field experiment was conducted using a randomized block design with 3 replications. The six varieties, ie; Argomulyo, Anjasmoro, Kaba, Burangrang, Gema, and Grobogan, were planted in a plot of 3 m long and 2 m wide  3 m with plant spacing of 40 cm x 20 cm, 40 cm x 15 cm, and 40 cm x 10 cm. The traits observed were plant height, leaf area, leaf area index, flowering date, harvest date, number of seeds per plant, seed weight per plant, seed yield per m2, and 100 seed weight. The results showed that except for leaf area and grain number per plant, most parameters observed varied among varieties. Soybean varieties grown with less  density had taller stem, smaller value of leaf area index and smaller seed size. The  magnitude values of most parameters were almost similar among planting densities indicating that planting density did not affect those characters. Keywords: Soybeans, Varieties, Plating space

Abstract

This study aims to determine the response of water spinach to rice straw and NPK compost, and looking for a best combination of rice straw and NPK compost that provides the best growth and production of water spinach. This research carried out in the Faculty of Agriculture Experimental Station, Riau University, starting from February 2018 until May 2018. This study used a Randomized Block Design with 2 factors and 3 replications. The first factor was rice straw compost (0, 7 and 14 ton.ha-1) and second factorI namely NPK fertilizer (0, 100 and 200 kg.ha-1). The parameters observed were plant height, leaf number, leaf area, fresh weight, root shot ratio and plant dry weight. Data were analyzed using anova and with HSD 5%. Increasing the dosage of rice straw compost significantly increased plant height, leaf number, leaf area, fresh weight, root to shoot ratio and dry weight of land water spinach. The interaction of giving rice straw compost and NPK fertilizer significantly increased plant height, leaf number, leaf area, fresh weight, and dry weight except the root canopy ratio of land water spinach. The interaction of rice straw compost 14 ton. ha-1 in NPK 200 kg. ha-1 was the best dose to increase plant height, leaf number, leaf area, fresh weight, root canopy ratio and dry weight of land water spinach. Keywords: Ipomoea reptans Poir, rice straw compost and NPK fertilizer

Abstract

Rokan Hulu has one of the natural famous tourism namely Aek Martua Waterfalls, Aek Martua waterfalls managed by local goverment who cooperate with the local society. Management of the Aek Martua waterfalls that  managed by local society will affect the level of visitors, because the visitors has own assessment of there tourism attractions. The purpose of this research is to determine participation society in management waterfalls. This research held in Aek Martua waterfalls and Bangun Purba Rokan Hulu, Riau Province. In August until September 2016. The type of this research is descriptive research with qualitative approachment. Based on research results perception of the visitors about ecotourism in Aek Martua waterfalls many as 93,3% visitors know the conditions of Aek Martua waterfalls, through the affective aspect as many as 76,7% said that Aek Martua waterfalls is still beautiful and 96,7% agree to contribute. There are 60% of society participated in discussion and give opinion for the plan of the tourist attraction, role of society forward implementation as much as 90% participated to managed Aek Martua waterfalls. For receive benefits 46,7% society accept economics benefit, and as many as 36,7% society  contributed in monitoring and evaluating activities Aek Martua waterfall.Keywords: Ecotourism, Aek Martua, Perception visitors, Participation of Society Â
