Abstract

Acacia mangium is one of the plant that was planted in industrial timber plantations as the main material of paper. This plant no need the specific area to grow and can produce the best wood. Acacia mangium nursery have a problem to the pest. One of the pest that often attack the young plants in the nursery is Paracoccus marginatus. It can makes the low number of productivity. The efforts to control this pest is generally controlled by using chemical pesticides. One of the alternative that can be used to minimaze the application of chemical pesticide was using of Eucalyptus sp. leaf extract. This research aimed to know the influence of applicaton Eucalyptus sp. leaf extract to the attacking activity Paracoccus marginatus to the Acacia mangium nursery. The research was conducted at the Laboratory of Plant Pest, Agriculture Faculty of Riau University in March to April 2016. This research uses a Completely Randomized Design Method, which consists 4 treatments and 4 replicates with concentration levels of botanical pesticide. P0 = concentration Eucalyptus sp. leaf extract 0 g/l of water; P1 = 10 g/l of water; P2 = 20 g/l of water; P3 = 30 g/l of water. The results showed that the application of Eucalyptus sp. leaf extract at the concentration of 30 g/l water is the best concentration in controlling Paracoccus marginatus with results initial time of death fastest is 18.25 hours, the fastest time of turning off 50% (LT50) is 56.50 hours and total mortality amounted to 90.00%. Keywords: Acacia mangium, Paracoccus marginatus, Eucalyptus sp., botanical insectiside

Abstract

Okra is a type of high nutritious vegetable which, if consumed regularly, can prevent various diseases. The elongated and widening okra leaves cause the leaves located under the shade and are not exposed to sunlight, so the lower leaves become photosynthate competitors between the lower leaves and the fruit. To fulfillment of nutrient needs of okra plants can utilize organic material in the form of cocoa pod waste which is processed into compost. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of interactions and the main factors of cocoa pod compost and defoliation and to obtain a dose combination of cocoa pod composts and the best defoliation on the growth and yield of okra plants. This research has been carried out at the University of Riau Faculty of Agriculture Research Station in May-August 2018 in the form of experiments with a 4x2 faction arranged according to CRD. The first factor was cocoa pod compost (K), namely: K0 = without Composted Cocoa pod, K1 = 4 ton.ha-1, K2 = 8 ton.ha-1 and K3 = 12 ton.ha-1. The second factor was defoliation (D), D = = without defoliation, D1 = defoliation. The results showed that the interaction of cocoa pod compost and defoliation had significant effect on the parameters of total fruit weight of plants and plant photosynthesis rates. The application of  cocoa pod compost has no significant effect on all parameters, while defoliation has a significant effect on the intensity of the light being continued.Keywords :Okra, Cocoa Pod Compost, Defoliation

Abstract

Elephants are large mammals that live in Indonesia especially in Sumatra Island usually called Sumatran Elephants. Population of Sumatran Elephants continues to decrease because the habitat in natural forests is shrinking. One of causes about decline the population because land contriction. Damage and descent in area Sumatran Elephant habitat will have an impact on the availability of elephant feed. This reason can result in the transfer of roaming areas and shifting the elephant's habitat. This study aims to determine the characteristics of elephant habitat in the Tesso Nilo National Park and its surroundings. The study was used the method purposive sampling by determined the habitat characteristics of Sumatran elephants. Characteristics of elephant habitat in TNTN and surrounding areas are four types of vegetation, namely canopy closure in natural forests 31.25-68.59%, shrubs 0%, acacia stands 35.77-58.83%, oil palm plantations 50.98-64.76%. Availability of feed plants in in natural forests 22.22-62.96%, shrubs 8.11-94.44%, acacia stands 42.11-80.77%, oil palm plantations 0-90.79% and the availability of body scrub trees was only found in natural forests, that is 8 trees while other locations are not found. Characteristics of elephant habitatin natural forests, shrubs, acacia stands, oil palm plantations including lowland and has a flat topography. The distance from natural forest to scrub is 4-291 m, acacia stands 4.750-5.270 m, oil palm plantations2.580-2.900 m. The distance to water sources from natural forests is 3-218 m, bushes 4-198 m, acacia stands 348-525 m, oil palm plantations 535-811 m. Keywords:Elephant, location, characteristic, habitat

Abstract

This research was aimed to get the influence storage temperature on physical chemical of red, white and yellow dahlia tubers varieties. This research was conducted experimentally used Completely Randomized Design with four treatments and four replicates on each variety. Data were analyzed by Analysis of variance test followed by Duncan's New Multiple Range Test at level 5%. Treatments of storage temperature in this research were P0 (control), P1 (4ºC), P2 (10ºC) and P3 (26ºC). Results of analysis showed that the storage temperature had a significant effect on water content, weight loss ash , reduce sugar, fiber and inulin content. The best treatment was P1 (4ºC) as for on  red dahlia tuber have water content 78.21%, weight loss 0.93%, reduce sugar 4.86%, fiber 6.06%, ash 1.09% and inulin 57.79%, on yellow dahlia tuber have water content 78.50%, weight loss 0.90%, reduce sugar 5.20%, fiber 6.68%, ash 1.57% and inulin 66.06%, and on white dahlia tuber, have water content 79.57%, weight loss of 0.97%, reduce sugar 5.75%, fiber 7.64%, ash 2.09% and inulin 78.37%. Keywords: Dahlia tubers, varieties, storage temperature.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to obtain precise ratio between coffee bean and black sticky rice to reach result the most preferred coffee by panelists and comply standard quality of coffee product. This research used a Complete Randomized Design (CRD) with 5 treatments and 3 replications. The Treatments were BKKH0 (100% Coffee), BKKH1(90% Coffee and 10% Black sticky Rice) BKKH2 (80% Coffee and 20% Black sticky Rice), BKKH3 (70% Coffee and 30% Black sticky rice), BKKH4 (60% Coffee and 40% Black sticky rice). The Collected Data was analyzed statistically with analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Duncan’s New Multiple Range Test (DNMRT) at 5% stage. The research showed, the application of coffee and black sticky rice had significant effect to water content, ash content, antioxidant content, caffeine content and organoleptic test. The best treatment  of this research was treatment BKKH4 which had a water content 4,23%; ash content 3,51%; antioxidant content 12,60 µg/ml, and caffeine content 1,24%. It was described as brown coloured and coffee scent for it’s powder, then black coloured and had coffee scent for the coffee. It was also the most preffered by panelists according the over all assessment.Keywords : Coffee powder, coffee bean, and black sticky rice.

Abstract

Syrup is a type of beverage in the form of a thick solution with a variety of flavors that contain high sugar, which is between 50-65%. The purpose of this study was to obtain the right one for making syrup corresponding SNI 01-2544-2013.This research was used Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 5 treatments was used replications in order to the obtain 15 experiment unit. The treatment was a mixture ratio of fruit tamarillo and ratio wuluh starsfruit such as TB1=(90:10), TB2=(80:20), TB3=(70:30), TB4 = (60:40), and TB5 = (50:50). Data were statistically anallyzed by Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and continued witht DMRT (Duncant’s New Multiple Range Test) at level of 5%. The results showed that formulation affect on the value of pH, sucrose concentration, viscosity, colour, flavour, taste and taste overall assessment basis hedonic.The best research results of syrup in treatment TB1 (90:10%) the result of syrup has a pH value 4,70, sucrose concentration 64,86%, viscosity 257,02 cP. The result of the descriptive test of the syrup from the best treatment was a colour of score red 4,73, aroma with score 4,66 flavorful and was a taste of score 3,36 sweet acidity, and overall assessment hedonic liked by panelist with a score of 4,54.

Abstract

            The aim of this research was to determine the best ratio of sugar and fruit flesh of nipa palm suitable into a made of palm jam. This research was conducted by using a Completely Randomized Design Experiment, with four treatments and four repetitions. Treatments for a made of jam were N1 (fruit flesh of nipa palm 80% and sugar 20%), N2 (fruit flesh of nipa palm 70% and sugar 30%), N3(fruit flesh of nipa palm 60% and sugar 40%) and N4 (fruit flesh of nipa palm 50% and sugar 50%). The collected data was analyzed statistically by using ANOVA and DMRT in the 5% level. The best ratio of fruit flesh of nipa palm and sugar was N3 jam (fruit flesh of nipa palm 60% and sugar 40%) with moisture contens of 24.81%, ash 0.84%, total sugar 52.92% and viscosity 80.77%. The sensory test assessment of the chosen jam had a grey-yellow colored, palm aromatic, sweet tasted, unsticky textured and liked by panelist. Keywords : Jam, nipa palm, sugar, raw material

Abstract

The research was purposed to study the effect and get the best dosage of formulated leguminose Tricho-compost on cocoa seedlings (Theobroma cacao L.). The research was conducted by Completely Randomized Design (CRD) that consists of 5 treatment and 4 repelication, ex formulated leguminose Tricho-compost dosage 0 g/polybag, 25 g/polybag, 50 g/polybag, 75 g/polybag and 100 g/polybag. The parameters observed were seed height, leaf number, stem diameter, leaf area, wet weight, root volume, root shoots ratio and dry weight of seedlings. The results of research showed that the giving of formulated leguminose tricho-compost of 75 g/polybags was the best dosage that could increase the height of seedlings, leaf number, stem diameter, leaf area, wet weight, root volume, root shoots ratio and dry weight of cocoa seedlings.Keywords: cocoa, leguminose, tricho-compost, formulated

Abstract

The objectives ofthis study is to determine the effect of TIBA concentration under different phosphorus fertilizer on yield and yield component of peanut (Arachis hypogea L.). A field experimentwas conducted in the Faculty of Agriculture experimental station, University of Riau from Agustus to November 2015 and arranged in a split  plot design with three replications.Three levels of TIBA concentration; ie, 0, 50 ppm, and 75 ppm were assigned as main plot and four levels of phosphorus fertilizer; ie,0, 11,5, 23, and 34,5 kgperhaP2O5were assigned as subplot. Seed of Jerapah variety was sown in a plot of 2,25 m length and 2 m wide with planting space of 40 cm x 15 cm. Yield components and yield were recorded from each plot and then analyzed by using SAS Program. The result showed that application of 75 ppm TIBA produced significantly greater number of filled pods per plant, seed weight per plant, pod dry weight and seed yield per m2 than of 50 ppm TIBA and control. In the other hand, application of 34,5 kg/ha P2O5produced more filled number per plant, seed weight per plant, pod dry weight and seed yield per m2 than other P fertilizer rates. So that, it is advisable to grow peanut plant  by applying 34,5 kgP2O5 per ha and application of 75 ppm TIBA at 28 days after planting. Keywords:peanut, TIBA concentration,  phosphorus fertilizer yield component

Abstract

The reseaerch intendeed to observe mung bean  also their responded which proper treatment for growth and mung bean outcome. Its gave poultry manure and sprinkling volume on sub soil Inceptisol medium. The research held at experimental garden, placed at Faculty of Agriculture, Riau University, Bina Widya Kampus KM 12,5, Simpang Baru region, sub – district of Tampan, Pekanbaru. The research did during 3 months, starting on January to March 2017. The research had done experimental method which used a complete randomized factorial design that were consists of two factors; the first factor was poultry manure which consist of 4 stages were (0,40,60,80 g.polybag-1) for giving poultry manure. The second factor was sprinkling volume that consist of 3 stages were (500,1000,1500 ml. polybag-1) for sprinkling volume in the morning. The research observed parameters were plants height, number of branches, the age of the flower plants, the percentage of the effective root nodule, the percentage of planted pods per plant, and dry seed weight per plant. The result of the varience investigation has analyzed further by using Duncan’s multiple range test at 5% degree. Giving poultry manure 40 g.polybag-1 and 500 ml.polybag-1 in the morning on sub soil Inceptisol medium type can be increase growth and outcome of mung bean.Keywords:  Mung bean, Poultry manure, Sprinkling volume, sub soil Inceptisol medium.
