Abstract

The research aims to (1)figure out the implementation system of rubber plantation extension, (2) farmers’ perception toward the importance of the role of extension in rubber plantation. Purposive Sampling method was the sampling technique that was used in this research which in accordance to the number of farmers that are actively involved in farmer group that consist of 45 farmers and 5 extension workers, Scale of Likert Summated Rating (LSR) was used as the tool of data analysis. The result showed the extension implementation activities in Gunung Toar Subdistrict Kuantan Singingi Regency have been going quite well if it is observed from the elements of extension that affecting it, that consists of agricultural extension workers; extension target; extension method; extension media; extenison material; extension period; extension site. Farmers’ perception toward the importance of the role of extension in rubber plantation in Gunung Toar Subdistrict Kuantan Singingi Regency was chategorized as “quite important” with the score of 2.80, it can be seen from the variable; (a) Education, information/innovation dissemination whichwere chategorized as “quite important” with the score of 3.17 and 2.68; (b) Facilitiation, Monitoring and evaluaton were chategorized as “less important” with the score of 2.53 and 2.00; (c) Consultation, Supervision/developmentwere included as “quite important” with the score of 3.15 and 3.29. Abstract

Plant breeding programs aimed to increase the production, one of them with superior varieties. This study aims to obtain genotypes for high yield and tolerance in lowland. The study was conducted from June to October 2013 at faculty of Agriculture Riau University. The experimental design used was Randomized Block Design (RBD), consists of eight genotypes of tomato that IPB 3 x IPB 13, IPB 3 x IPB 64, IPB 3 x IPB 78, IPB 13 x IPB 64, IPB 13 x IPB 78, IPB 64 x IPB 78, Jawara and Fortuna, with 3 replication. Parameters observed are plant height (cm), stem diameter (mm), flowering date (HST), harvesting date (HST), fruit length (cm), fruit diameter (cm), fruit flesh thickness (mm), number of fruit space, weight of 100 seeds (g), number of fruit per plant, weight per fruit (g), weight total per plant (g). The results show variability genotypes tested and the results are different in each genotype. IPB 64 x IPB 78 has a higher yield (weight total per plant, weight per fruit and number of fruit per plant) higher than comparison varieties so that these genotypes can be recommended for furter investigation and  could be released into suitable varietes in low land. Keyword: Performance, tomato, low land

Abstract

A research has done on the effect of the combination green manure Azolla pinnata R.Br. with chicken manure toward the growth and production of lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.) in the experiment garden of Agriculture Faculty in University of Riau. The aim of this research is to determine or to know the best combination of Azolla pinnata provision of green manure with chicken manure on the growth and production of lettuce in two planting periods. The research was conducted with two planting periods and experimentally by using completely randomized design with seven treatments that consists of : P0 = no treatment, P1 = 5 tons of Azolla + 10 tons of chicken manure, P2 = 5 tons of Azolla + 15 ton of chicken manure, P3 = 10 tons of Azolla + 10 tons of chicken manure, P4 = 10 tons of Azolla + 15 tons of chicken manure, P5 = 15 tons of Azolla + 10 tons of chicken manure, P6 = 15 tons of Azolla + 15 tons of chicken manure. The result of the research showed combination treatment influential significantly affected all parameters and treatment 15 tons/ha of Azolla with 10 tons/ha of chicken manure give a the best result on the all planting. The result of the research showed a decrease in each parameters on the second planting. Key words : Azolla, chicken manure, lettuce

Abstract

The objective of this research was to determine of yield potential and seed physiologic quality for some genotypes of BATAN’s sweet sorghum and also was to determinethe best genotypes of sweet sorghum beetwen the attempt genotypes. This research has conducted in Field Experiment and Plant Breeding laboratory Faculty of Agriculture University of Riau, Pekanbaru, from April 2013 until November 2013. The research has conducted experimentally using randomizedblock design (RBD) consist of 13 treatments and 3 replications that contained 39 experimental units. These treatments consist of 10 BATAN’s sweet sorghum strains, there are Patir 1, Patir 2, Patir 3,    Patir 4, Patir 5, Patir 6, Patir 7, Patir 8, Patir 9 and Patir 10; and 3 sweet sorghum varieties as a comparison, there are Kawali, Mandau and Pahat. The result suggested that Patir 10 strain has the highest of grain weight/m2 that is 378,85 g (3,78 ton/ha), and Patir 9 strain has the seed physiologic quality better than 3 sweet sorghum varieties as a comparison and ever sweet sorghum strains. Patir 10 and  Patir 9 strains has the highest yield and seed physiologic quality, even higher than 3 sweet soghum varieties, so that both sweet sorghum strains recommended to the next attempt. Keyword : Sorghum bicolor, seed, yield potential, physiologic quality

Abstract

Indonesia is an agricultural country so that the agriculture sector plays an important role and able to give a huge contribution the region's economy. This study aims to identify the primary sector in economy sector, analyze the position and the tranposition of in the agriculture sector and sub-sector in the future, also to analyze the factors that determine the sector transposition in Indragiri Hilir District which can seen of GDP 2008-2012. This research uses secondary data over five years period. Analysis method which used in research is Location Quotient method, Dynamic Location Quotient methods, and the total shift share methods. The results of the research is that agricultural sector plays as  a primary sector on Indragiri Hilir’s economy and followed by agricultural sub sector which is holticulture sub-sector, tree crop sub-sector, and fishery sub-sector. And based on  combination of Location Quotient and Dynamic Location Quotient analysis methods,  known that agriculture sector still will be on primary sector in the future. Horticultural sub-sector, tree crops sub-sector, and fishery sub-sector also  will be on primary sub-sector in the future. Agriculture subsector which will have  transposition from non primary sector into primary sector is farm sub-sector. By total shift share approaching analysis method, known that the transposition is influenced by economic structural factor. Key words: Agriculture, Location Quotient, Dynamic Location Quotient

Abstract

Oil palm plays an important role in Indonesian economy. Development of palm oil supply chain creates a large number of employment, reduces poverty, increases foreign exchange earnings, and improves rural welfare. However, oil palm expansion has been claimed to be the source of deforestation, biodiversity loss, GHG emision, land and forest fires and land conflicts. Some private and non-governmental organizations have established a certification system, “the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil”, to mitigate the negative impacts of oil palm production. All oil palm growers have to comply with the Principle and Criteria of RSPO to be included in the global market. However, the smallholders are the most vulnerable party to meet the standard because of their limited access to various inputs, finance, and information. Certification is a new challenge for smallholders in a global oil palm supply chain. The objective of this study is to analyse farmers’ perception on RSPO certification. This research use the likert scale to measure farmers’ perception. The data were collected through a survey on the farmers. The size of sample selected from the population are 59 independent smallholders. The result shows that the farmers’ perception on certification is “very good”. There are an increasing awareness of the farmers on sustainable oil palm production. The study also found that most of the farmers participate in the process of certification. However, the implementation of the Principles and Criteria carried out by oil palm growers is still below the certification standard i.e., only 65,45%. Keywords : Oil palm, Perception, RSPO and independent smallholder.
