Abstract

Abstract The noodle industry liquid waste is rich in BOD5, COD and thus need to be processed before being flown to environment. A research aims to reduce the BOD5, COD on liquid waste using biofilters has been conducted in February-March 2018. The noodle industry liquid waste (175 liters) was kept in 2 anaerobik tanks that completed with gravel, sand and fibers media for ten days.Thenthe waste was flown to an aerobik tank (chopped plastic bottle media) for seven days. Finallythe wastewas treated in a phytoremediation pondthat was competed withPistia stratiotesfor fifteen days. By the end of the experiment, the BOD5reduced from 1.318 mg/L to 48 mg/L (effectiveness 96.35%) and COD reduced from 10.082 mg/L to 104 mg/L (effectiveness 98.96%). The treated waste was used for rearing Oreochromis niloticus for fifteen days and survival rate of the fish was 84.33%. Based on data obtained, the combination of anaerob-aerob biofilters and phytoremediationusing Pistia stratiotes is effective to reduce the BOD5and COD content in thenoodle industry liquid waste.
