Abstract

High temperature changes may occur at the time of the fire. This can result in discoloration, cracking and loss of strength on concrete. Therefore, a test was conducted to identify the changes of concrete compressive strength. The concrete compressive strength was measured by using Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity (UPV) and Compression Testing Machine (CTM). The specimens used in this study was cube with the size of 150???? 150???? 150 mm. The specimen used consist of 18 cubes with the expected concrete compressive strength of 20, 25 and 30MPa. And then, the specimens were burned in a local brick furnance for about 30 minutes. The test results of post burn concrete, indicated that there was a decrease in the concrete compressive strength for all specimens. Based on the test results of post burn concrete using CTM and UPV, there was a significant difference. On UPV test using Mahure’s Equation compared with the results of CTM has a difference 7.3, 4.4 and 12.5 MPa. Whereas if the test using Nash't’s Equation compared with CTM has a difference 7.1, 4.7 and 8.6 MPa. Therefore, it can be concluded that to identify post burn concrete compressive strength usingCTM more accurate than UPV.Keywords: Compressive strength, concrete after burn, Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity (UPV), Compression Testing Machine (CTM).

Abstract

Children library has a very important role for children and families. It’s a place for children to get to know the various learning resources and foster the fun of books. It’s also an interacting place for children and families. The development of information technology today can not be separated with modern human life. Similarly in the children library. Therefore, the children library should follow the development of technology and information in support of its programs and services. Thechildren library in Pekanbaru now has not been able to answer the needs of information technology literacy because it does not have the right system and infrastructure. In an effort to anticipate thedevelopment of the era to the next era, the children library should be oriented to the future. Children libraries in the future, in addition to reading and learning, also become a social and creative node to collaborate and create content. Therefore, the concept of library must also support those needs. The design of children library using futuristic approach, which is future-oriented and adaptive to the times. It’s realized by combining the introduction of media and futuristic technology to children with creative and innovative collaboration. Design strategy in this research include functional analysis and environmental condition analysis. Based on the function and theme of building design, emerged a concept of "Collaboration for the Future". This concept will accompany the design process so that it can create a children library in accordance with the wishes and needs of children in Pekanbaru. As the results, this building has dyamic and future-oriented form, usingspace frame on the structure, glass and alluminium composite panel as dominant material, and kinetic facade on the side of the building.Keywords: Library, Children, Futuristic, Pekanbaru.

Abstract

The empty fruit bunch (EFB) is a solid waste from palm oil processing with the highest percentage of 23% per ton of the fresh fruit bunch (TBS), which has not been optimally utilized from the palm oil industry. EFB have 15-30% lignin components and complex chemical composition which is difficult to be degraded. To be easily converted into a simpler element, the bunches have to be firstly degraded. The utilization of the empty bunches as a medium to the growth of paddy straw mushroom (Volvariella volvaccea) is expected to degrade the content of lignin. The mushroom (Volvariella volvacea) produces extracellular enzymes in the form of LiP and MnP in degrading lignin. This study aims to study the effect of environmental conditions on the growth of straw mushrooms (Volvariella volvacea) on lignin degradation. This study has variation of seed mushroom weight of which 250 gr, 350 gr and control. The best results show that the highest percentage of lignin declining was found in the increasing weight of 250 gr paddy straw mushroom seeds which was 61%, with the achievement of optimum environmental conditions such as temperatures in the range 27.2-30.6 0C, pH 7.0-7.36 and water content of 42-85.2%. The conclusion of this study is that the optimum environmental conditions during the growth of the mushroom (Volvariella volvacea) become an important factor in the process of lignin degradation in the waste of EFB. Keywords : EFB, Lignin, pH, Temperature, Moisture content, Degradation

Abstract

Semi precast reinforced concrete (RC) used as an alternative in developing infrastructure is an excellent innovation, because of the advantages of this system can significantly reduced cost and construction time. Semi precast reinforced concrete (RC) beam is a combination of precast concrete which consists of the support beam and curve tile with the cast in place concrete. The elements are applied as a T-beam because of the interaction between the platesand the beams become unity. The study aims to identify the effect of the support beam and curve tile on the T-beam towards load-deflection relationship, curvature-moment and crack pattern caused by pure bending moments. The results showed that the load attained from finite element analysis was 56,664 kN while the load attained from strip method was 56,810 kN. Meanwhile, the stiffness value of finite element analysis was 1,206 kN/mm while the loadattained from strip method was 1,210 kN/mm. The collapsed pattern on the T-beam analyzed by using Extended Finite Element Method (XFEM) was a pure bending crack at the most significant bending moment region. The crack pattern showed the crack on the tension side of the beam in the direction of the stirrups.Key words : T-Beam, Semi Precast, FEA, Abaqus CAE, Bending Moment, Curve Tile

Abstract

As the technology evolves, the utilization of micro-organisms such as bacteria has been developed and used as concrete mixtures. This was inspired by the ability of the bacteria which is able to repair the cracks on concrete, as known as self healing concrete. Therefore, properties of self healing concrete needs to be reviewed. This research used bacillus subtilis chemical solution with amount of 25 ml and with the concentration of 105 cells/ml. Research methodology consisted of adding bacteria solution on concrete mixtures. Cylinder compressive tests were initiated on normal concrete and bacterial concrete on age of 28 days and 56 days. Physical property of concrete was evaluated according to its workability, porosity, and shrinkage rate. The results showed that the slump on bacterial concrete was 80 mm. This indicated bacterial concrete had lower consistency than normal concrete. Porosity results on bacterial concrete was better with deviation of 11,241% compared to normal concrete on age of 28 days and low rate of shrinkage, i.e. 61,50 µm. Hence, it could be concluded that physical properties of self healing concrete is better than normal concrete.Keywords : bacillus subtilis bacteria, self-healing concrete, physical properties ofconcrete

Abstract

A form of art that is growing in this modern era is seni jalanan or street art. The word "Street” in street art does not only show the location but rather shows the freedom of expression. Freedom of expression in general public became a push to the younger generation to roar and vent the angst over social, cultural, economic structure or whatever they feel by combining components of colours, lines, patterns and shapes in the city’s public spaces that have been overrun by advertising medias, billboards, banners, and etcetera. The usage of public spaces without permission to create street art is classified as a form of vandalism that could stains, damages, and spoils the city scape. However, the majority of society views street art as a form of art that leaves the impression of aesthetics in the midst of a hectic city life. Due to a minimal amount of the expression areas and the lack of attention from the government that even opposes the existence of this art form and assumes that this form of art as an act of vandalism. Expressionism architecture design approach that is also happen to be a refined result of imagination and emotions poured into an object to evoke emotions and understanding, certainly has a close relationship with the street art that acts as a media outlet of imagination and emotions poured into lines and shapes. The method of research that is used, covers observations, documentations as well as secondary data in a form of case studies and comparison studies. The concept applied to the design object is “Not everything’s the same” which is then influenced by a form of a graffiti’s writing style called Wildstyle and this concept also becomes a connecting point of each function’s placement. The outcome of this research is to design an architectural object that could evoke feelings and imaginations as well as conveys a message that is wished by the designers to the society through the principles of expressionism architecture.Keywords: Architecture, Expressionism, Street art.

Abstract

Riau hasn’t have a complete sport facility for fencing. Considering the fact that fencing has plenty achievement on national scale, therefore goverment should have providing a place to held all its activity. Supported by good facilities then all the athletes are expected to be more passioned to do all the training so the achievement could be increased, wether on national scale or even international. Fencing is one of sportive and modern sport. As time goes by, all the equipment and technology on the used building will be developing in no time. For that, the place that can be used for training should be developing as well to keep the pace with current era. Abstract

Pekanbaru, as capital city of Riau Province, has high economic growth, it can be seen from the development of high rise building. One of the new high rise building development in 2014 was Hotel Pesonna. The development of the building should consider safety aspects, one of them is fire safety. Thepurpose of this study is to evaluate and get the value of building reliability on fire hazard protection system Hotel Pesonna according to the Ministry of Public Works Regulation number 26, 2008. This study used checklist form Pd-T-11-2005-c (Fire Safety Inspection on Building) and the result from this form isused to get the reliability for fire hazard protection system using Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) method, then give recommendation for components in reliability for fire hazard protection system in building that have not met the requirements. There are four components of fire hazard protection systemconsidered in building, including completeness of site, means of rescue, active protection system, and passive protection system. The result of this study showed that the reliability of Hotel Pesonna on fire hazard protection system was in “Good” condition (B). The building reliability value calculated based onchecklist method and AHP method was 91.503 and 91.522 respectively. The difference between the two method is 1.9%, and several sub-component system that are listed in Ministry of Public Works Regulation number 26, 2008 (e.g completeness of site, means of rescue, and active protection system) should be fulfilled by the building owner.Keywords : Fire safety, reliability, Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP)

Abstract

Hallyu is a term given to the spread of Korean Pop culture and triggers many people in every country to learn both Korean language and culture. With the development of Hallyu, many Indonesian teenagers, especially in Pekanbaru city, formed communities related to Kpop. Their interest in things related to Hallyu itself such as fashion, film, drama, music and culinary. Therefore it needed a place that can accommodate the interests and talents oraccommodate the activities of hallyu communities and fans in a more complex place especially in the region of Pekanbaru which functioned as a center for korean contempory culture learning and reacreation/entertament. The design of Pekanbaru Hallyu Culture Center is done by combining the function with the principle approach of deconstruction and analyze the design characteristics of Frank O. Gehry. The concept used in this design is "Wave". This concept combines the characteristics of two different types of waves. The results of the implementation of the concept of Waves in design include the forming ofbuilding, inter-functional zoning, inner space arrangement that accommodate the main function, and on the facade of buildings that apply the characteristics of two longitudinal and transverse waves according to Frank O. Abstract

The empty fruit bunch (EFB) is a solid waste produced in large quantities byindustrial processing of palm oil through 23% of fresh fruit bunches (FFB). EFB is a waste of lignocellulose containing lignin, hemicellulose, and cellulose. The high lignin content in the EFB affects the length of decomposition period. It can be accelerated by adding of white mushrooms, one of paddy straw mushroom (Volvariella volvacea). This research aims to examine the effects of paddy straw mushroom in degrading lignin, C/N, and the effect of adding POME with residual EFB of the mushroom media to the C/N ratio, content of N, P, and K. The method used within two variations of planting mushrooms is precisely by mixingand spreading. The best planting is by implementing the mixed variation with the degradation results of lignin toward EFB of 10.582% and the value of C/N ratio of 38.8. The composting process used in-vessel system and the effect of variation in adding 1 kg of POME, 1.5 kg of POME, and 2 kg of POME to EFB. The greatest value of C/N ratio in adding 2 kg of POME equal to 15.13%. Nitrogen content (N) of 2.64 %, Phosphorus (P) equal to 1.10 %, and Potassium (K) equal to 1.10 % is in accordance with the standard of compost quality of Indonesian Standard National 19-7030-2004.Keywords : Empty fruit bunches, paddy straw mushroom, lignin degradation, POME, invessel system , composting
