Abstract

Heterogeneous solid base catalyst by modificated Eggshells through calcination, hydration, dehydration methods with iron powder through impregnation method to load calcium oxide with eggshells as precursor. The catalyst with the highest activity is obtained when the calcination temperature of 900°C and the calcination time of 3 hours under transesterification reaction conditions of a molar ratio of methanol/oil 6:1, catalyst dosage of 6% by weight, temperature of 70 °C for 2 hours with yield biodiesel results reached 86.20%.Keyword: biodiesel, calcination, calcium oxide, catalysts, iron powder.

Abstract

The surfactant is a substance which has the ability to reduce surface tension, interface tension, and increase the stability of an emulsion. The Surfactant is an intermediate productwhich is widely applied in the fields of health, pharmacy, industry, and cleaning products in the household. This study makes biosurfactant from rubber seed oil. The purpose of this study is to make biosurfactants from rubber seed oil, to see the effect of temperature and time on the biosurfactant characterization produced. The preliminary treatment in this study includes preparation of raw materials, extraction of rubber seed oil by pressing method, the degumming process using phosphoric acid at temperature 90°C for 1 hour, gum separationby centrifuge. The esterification process of oil and methanol with a mole ratio of fatty acid: methanol (1:9), sulfuric acid catalyst (98%) as much as 1%(b/b) of oil, at temperature 65°C, the process is carried out until ALB < 2%. The transesterification process of methyl esterformation with a mole ratio of oil: methanol (1:9), KOH catalyst as much as 2%(b/b) of oil, at temperature 65°C for 6 hours. In the final stage, the transesterification process of methyl ester becomes esteramine with a mole ratio of methyl ester and trietanolamine (4:1), KOHcatalyst as much as 5%(b/b) of methyl ester, stirring speed 200 rpm, temperature variation 100°C; 125°C; 150°C, time variation during 2 hours; 4 hours; and 6 hours. The best characteristics of biosurfactant were produced at 100°C transesterification temperature and 6 hours transesterification time with the density of 0,906 gr/ml, the pH 9,8, the surface tension of 52 dyne/cm, the interface tension of 51,3 dyne/cm, the emulsion stability of 96,36%, the yield 88,480%, and FT-IR test to ascertain amine functional groups in biosurfactant.Keywords: Biosurfactant, rubber seed oil, transesterification, triethanolamine

Abstract

Solid waste produced by the palm oil processing industry consists of oil palm empty bunches (20-23%), fiber (10-12%), and shells (7-9%). Until now, the solid waste of palm fruit fiber is used as a potential energy source to be burned as boiler fuel. But along with the increase in Crude Palm Oil (CPO), there are still many palm fruit fibers that are not utilized optimally so that the waste only accumulates in the factory area, so the alternative sollution that can be done is by composting. Composting of palm fruit fiber waste with the addition of POME liquid waste which aims to determine the effect of adding Palm Oil Mill Effluent (POME) liquid waste with variations of 0%, 20%, 30% and 40% to the C/N ratio and measurements of C, N, pH, water content, and measurements are carried out. temperature, and the compost product is compared to compost quality standards (SNI 19-7030-2004). The results showed that the effect of POME addition at 20% gave the best results as indicated by the content of C/N 10.81, pH 6.99, water content 42.44% and temperature 32.06 oC, and compost product fulfill the quality standards SNI 19-7030-2004 compost. Thus, the best composting performance of palm fruit fiber waste is the addition of 20% POME with the fastest composting time at 25 days. Utilization of palm fruit fiber is one of the solutions to sustainable environmental pollution control. Abstract

Currently CNC machines are increasingly being made or developed either CNC machines in large scale dimensions or in prototypes. A multi axis of prototype CNC machine needs a circuit control systems that function as the engine's brain. The purpose of this research is to design and developing a circuit control of the CNC milling machine with 3 axis movement. All machining parameters would be setup and operated through the control system so that the machine can operate in accordance with the design in three axes. In the design of the control system used 3 stepper motors as a driver, where each was enabled to move the engine against the x, y, and z axis. There are several steps that must be done in this design, such as the selection of control element data. Furthermore, control elements consisting of Motor Driver, Stepper Motor, Power Supply, and Limit Switch are assembled according to schematic control design. The control system was connected to the PC through the Universal G-Code Sender software interface to be used to drive the actuator. Prior to use for machining processes, the control system needs to be calibrated so that the machine's sliding dimension matches the command dimensions of the PC. Control system on CNC machines designed using a close loop system where there was a Limit Switch as a feedback sensor to the engine, so what if there was a mistake (error) on the track machine, then the sensor would command the spindle back to home position.Key Words : Prototype CNC, Control System, Elements of Control, Universal G-Code Sender, Close Loop

Abstract

The presence of Chromium (Cr) in electroplating wastewater is a major environmental problem. That toxicity and non-biodegradable where should be eliminated from water. Chlorella sp immobilized in calcium alginate is one of technology that can reduce the concentration of Cr in the electroplating wastewater quickly and without produced sludge. The data were analyzed using AAS on variation cell density in alga beads (0; 1,53x108; 1,76x107; 1,54x106 cells / beads) and contact time (0, 12, 24, 36 and 48 hours). The result showed that the highest removal efficiency of Cr occured at cell density 1,54x106 cells/beads and contact time 48 hours with efficiency of 52,04%.Keywords: biosorption, microalgae, Chlorella sp, cell density, contact time, Cr, electroplating wastewater

Abstract

Organic Rankine Cycle is a modified power generation system from Rankine Cycle that uses organic working fluid. In this study the working fluid used is R-134a. The ORC system has four main components, namely the evaporator, turbine, condenser and pump. Flate Plate Collector as a component that converts solar energy into heat energy, in this study used a compressor AC type scroll as a turbine. The overall component scheme and system measurement instrumentation have been made in the form of piping instrumentation diagrams. The initial data determined for the design and calculation of the ORC system analysis is the evaporator temperature 90˚C, the temperature of the condenser is 10˚C, the fluid entering the pump is runny with a pressure of 5 bar inlet and entering the turbine under a saturated steam pressure of 12.5 bar, resulting in an efficiency of 6.65%. For the design of Solar Collector the water intake temperature is 50˚C and exits 95˚C, so that the evaporator tube length is produced 14.53 m, 13.89 m condenser and 9.44 m Solar Collector. Solar Collector produce a temperature of 52˚C then turn on the ORC system by adjusting the evaporator and condenser temperature by 95˚C, and 10˚C, the inlet pressure of the 5 bar pump and 5.2 bar turbine, resulting in a system efficiency of 4,29 %.Keywords : Organic Rankine Cycle, Evaporator, condenser, R134a, Design

Abstract

In the era of globalization as it is today, competition between actors in the field of construction is developing very rapidly. The rapid development of the construction world in Indonesia has not been accompanied by an increase in the quality and performance of construction services companies. In accordance with ISO 9004 of 2008, that the ongoing success of a company is achieved with its ability to meet customer needs and expectations with effective management and through corporate environmental awareness. This study aims to identify internal factors and analyze levels that significantly affect the performance of contractors in competing in the global market in the city of Padang and map the level of readiness of contractors using the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) method. Primary data in this study were obtained from questionnaires and interviews with construction service companies, especially medium and large qualification contractor companies. and secondary data obtained from the LPJK website and based on ISO 9004. Based on the identification of the internal factors of the companies, it was found the final result that the significant internal factors affected the performance of construction service companies in large levels company in competing the global market in sequence are : company management, company finance, human resource, strategy company and information technology company. While the significant internal factors in medium levels company in sequence are : company finance, company management, human resource, strategy company and information technology company. The readiness of construction service company at the large level in Padang is 88.5% and the medium level is 86.5%. This value indicates that readiness level is greater than 50% which means that the construction service companies in Padang ready to compete in global market.Keywords: Identification, Significant Factors, AHP, Internal Company, Global Market.

Abstract

Along with the development of fast wireless technology, car to car communication (C2C) has been widely used in communication between vehicles for internet access and safe driving control. During the last few years, the design of antennas using transparent materials has attracted the interest of researchers. This is due to the low thickness and light structure of transparent materials compared to conventional designs. In this study, the transparent antenna based on LTE technology for C2C communication is developed. This antenna works at 1.8 GHz with return loss of -27.98 dB. Abstract

Nipah plants (Nypa fruticans) grown in province of Riau especially in Lubuk Muda vilage, Bengkalis regency with land area about 50 hectares. Nipah produce sap with high sugar concentration which can be used as an alternative material for acetic acid production by fermentation using microorganisms. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the initial sugar concentration of nipah sap and the time of acetic acid fermentation on yield of acetic acid using Saccharomyces cerevicae and Acetobacter aceti microorganisms. Variation of initial sugar concentration was 10%, 20% and 30%, while the fermentation time is 1, 3, 5, 7 and 9 days. Acetic acid fermentation process was carried out at pH 6, stirring speed of 200 rpm and 10% inoculum. The results of analysis using the Nelson-Somogyi method revealed that the highest sugar concentration was evaporation of nipa sap 30% (172.7223 g/L). The highest concentration of acetic acid was obtained 59.399 g/L or 5.94% and yield was 51.599%. The concentration and the highest yield was obtained at 30% evaporation and the 9th day of acetic acid fermentation.Keywords : Acetic acid, Acetobacter aceti, fermentation, inoculum, nipah sap

Abstract

The Biogas Power Plant comes with a form of alternative energy handling efforts originating from POME Because of the engine is continuously operated without stopping, it requires maintenance so that the engine's performance is maintained properly. The decrease in engine performance produces wasted energy so that engine efficiency is not optimal. In addition, the maintenance process takes a long time until the engine can be operatedagain. This is a problem because the maintenance process is carried out on all cylinder engines. The purpose of this study is to calculate and analyze the energy on the left and right exhaust on the gas engine Guascor SFGM 560 Miller Cycle. From the analysis, the biggest energy efficiency is in the left cylinder in the first period which was59.82% at 15.00 PM. and as a comparison in second period the highest efficiency is at 12.00 that was equal to 66.45%.Keywords: miller cycle, biogas, gas engine, energy, effisiensi energy
