Abstract

Chromium (Cr) is a heavy metal that has a toxicity and the presence in waters caused by the disposal of wastewater from various industrial activities, one of them is electroplating industry. One of technology that can be applied to reduce the concentration of Cr in the electroplating industry wastewater is biosorption by using biomass of blue-green algae Anabaena cycadae. This research aims to reducing the concentration of Cr was analyzed using AAS on variation mass of biomass (0.1; 0.2; 0.3; and 0.4 grams), pH of wastewater (3,5, 7, and 9), and the detention time (30, 60, 90, and 120 minutes). The results showed the adsorption capacities of Cr concentration was highest in mass of biomass 0.1 grams, pH 7, and detention time of 60 minutes is 4,492 mg Cr / g biomass.Keywords: Biosorption, algae biomass, biosorbent mass, pH, contact time, Cr, electroplating wastewater

Abstract

Nowadays, hot water is widely used as the daily needs for society and industry. As the bathing needs, society was used heating furnaces and electric furnaces for heating the water. Application of solar water heater collectors which used parabolic collectors is expected to be one solution in order to replace the them by utilizing abundant solar energy especially in Riau area. In this research the collector was made in form of half parabola by using a layer of shiny stainless plate in order to be able to reflect the heat energy which forward to the heat absorbent pipe that named copper pipe. The purpose of this research is to know the efficiency of collector and heat performance of collector as water heater. Dimension of solar water heater was used by parabolic collector with length of 170 cm, width of 88 cm and height of 30 cm and volume of tank which is about to 127 Liter. The tests of the data were tank water temperature, collector temperature, solar intensity, warm absorber pipe temperature and inlet and outlet temperatures. The results showed that the second day had better collector efficiency than the first day with an average efficiency of 54.89% and total efficiency of 933.18 KJ. The highest water temperature that the collector achieved in order to heat the water in the second day test was 50.2 ° C.Keywords: Parabolic collector, heat absorber pipe, solar water heater

Abstract

In planning a good structure, it is necessary to consider a geographical factor where the building is built. Soil conditions that generally exist in Indonesia’s coastal is soft soil. As well as, that the most widely used foundation type is the pile foundation. The pile foundation is used to support a structure when a good soil lies at a relatively deep and also if the foundation of the building lies on a fairly high embankment. A number of piles used as pile foundation in one pilecap, where the piles working together to support building. Hence the study of pile foundation needs to be done. One of the studies is modeling of pile in pile grup foundation to find out the bearing capacity of the pile group on sand. Notably, Variation of spacing and length of the pile is determined for this study.The research was done by direct test model on pile foundatio with variation of length 40 cm, 30 cm, and 20 cm and spacing variation with 2.5D, 3D, and 5D also. In brief, the result test in 40 cm lenght pile with spacing 2,5D has the greatest capacity. Obviously the results of the interpretation with the Chin method found a pile with a length of 40 cm and 2.5D pile spacing is the pile with the largest Qult of 2.232 kN followed by a 30 cm long pile with a space 2.5D, as well as the interpretation of Terzhagi and Peck method, the pile with long 40 cm and 2.5D spaces have the largest Qult that is 1.665 kN. To summarize, based on the results of the research can be concluded that the more tight spaced pile then Qult pile will be bigger, and longer pile on the foundation model then Qult also getting bigger.Keywords: Loose sand, Foundation, Pile group, Bearing capacity.

Abstract

This study evaluate the performance of nanofiltration (NF) membrane system and pre-treatment coagulation and floculation in the treatment of palm oil mill effluent (POME) by varying the effect of concentration of coagulant, slow mixing speed, and transmembrane pressure. The process of coagulation-flocculation used aluminium sulfate with variation of concentration 3.5 g/l; 4.0 g/l; 4.5 g/l. The process completed with rapid stirring 200 rpm for 5 minutes and variation of slow stirring 65 rpm; 85 rpm; 105 rpm for 15 minutes, settling time for 30 minutes. Nanofiltration membrane processes conducted during the 60-minute operation on transmembrane pressure variation 6.5 bar; 7.5 bar; and 8.5 bar. In each treatment process, wastewater quality tests were carried out with biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) test parameters, chemical oxygen demand (COD), and total suspended solid (TSS). In addition, an analysis of permeate fluxes and the percentage of NF membrane rejection was also carried out. The research results obtained the best concentration of aluminium sulfate at 4.5 g/L and slow mixing speed 65 rpm i.e. of 71.04%; 75.49%; and 90.43% respectively for BOD, COD, and TSS. The research results obtained the value of most NF membrane high selectivity at transmembrane pressure 8.5 bar i.e. of 84.66%; 86.76%; and 94.95% respectively for BOD, COD, and TSS with a flux value of 6.32 L/m2.hours.Keywords: Aluminium Sulfate, Coagulation, Flocculation, Nanofiltration, Palm Oil Mill Effluent

Abstract

Geopolymer is a material made without cement mixture by utilizing waste material such as fly ash, palm ash and husk ash and other materials that are rich in silica and alumina, and activated using solution activators such as NaOH and Na2SiO3. This study examines the characteristics of fly ash and the effect of activator modulus (Ms) on the compressive strength of mortar with the treatment of room temperature. Fly ash used was sourced from PLTU Ombilin, West Sumatra. The variations of activator modulus used were Ms 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, and 3. The mold used was cube with the size 5x5 cm. The speciments were casted and treated in the laboratory under room temperature condition. The compressive tests were performed at 7, 14, and 28 days of mortar age. The results showed that the fly ash used was included in class F in accordance with ASTM C 618. The compressive strength test showed that there was an increase in compressive strength as the test age increased in all variations of the activator modulus. The highest value of compressive strength was produced by mortar geopolymer with modulus activator 2 which was 11.2 MPa at 28 days, while the lowest compressive strength was produced by mortar with modulus activator 2.5 with difference 19.14% at age 28 day. Abstract

Optimalitation of distribution line configuration on 20 Kv case for reconfiguration of distribution line without changed load sytem but with setting or regulate of switch in the feeder. In this case purpose is reduce losses in feeder.In this case, did in IEEE 69 bus type distribution line analysis that consist of 1 head transformer from relay station, 73 of lines, 5 of tie lines, 69 switch and 8 lateral.Keywords : Optimalitation,Distribution Line, Configuration.

Abstract

There are several problems related to water resources such as floods and drought. One of the critical issue is drought. Drought is a nature phenomenon which is considered as common dangers which occurs in accordance of climate cycle related to hydrological cycle that affected by rainfall. Drought that affected only by rainfall is meteorological drought which is an early indication of drought. Based on the large impact, it is necessary to analyze index of dryness to find out the level of dryness as the early warning of further droughts. The location of the research was the Batang Anai watersheds which is one of water source of agricultural sector in Sumatera Barat Province. Standardized Precipitation Index (SPI) was one of the methods to analyze drought index in an area. The calculation was done based on rainfall data of half monthly period and monthly period from 1997 to 2016 on every rain station in DAS Batang Anai. The result of SPI drought index was correlated with Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) phenomenon and then was mapped using ARC GIS software with tools Polygoon Thiessen. The final result of this research showed that in half period the highest value of drought index was -2,3811 (January, 1st periode, 2013) with extreme drought classification. While in monthly period, the value of drought index was -1,9183 (January, 2012) with very dry classification. This research also showed the suitability of SPI drought index with IOD drought phenomenon which has suitable average 70,14%.Keywords : Drought index, Standardized Precipitation Index, GIS, Indian Ocean Dipole

Abstract

Gold has been using in electronics and telecommunication industry, for example, Video Graphic Array (VGA) computer. To get the maximum results in the separation of the gold used variations potential difference ( 6; 9; 12 volt ) and the type of precipitant (NaHSO3 and H2C2O4) . In this study, 5 gram of samples VGA is electrolyzed by using H2SO4 for 1 hour. The precipitate formed is separated from the filtrate. The precipitate was dissolved in Aqua Regia at a temperature of 70˚C for 30 minutes further diluted with Aqua DM until the volume is 50 mL . Au concentration was analyzed by AAS (Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometry) and Au deposited with NaHSO3 and H2C2O4 . Based on the analysis result, the maximum Au concentration at the former VGA computer is equal to 181,36 ppm. For 5 grams of the sample , the maximum weight of Au precipitate obtained 1,07 grams by using NaHSO3 as a precipitant .Keywords : Au, VGA computer, Electrolysis, Precipitant

Abstract

Meetings in an organization are important because meetings means of communication for its organization. Meeting is needed to discuss the agenda or activities to be carried out with members of the organization. The current communication technology supports to hold meeting even in different places. The technology that can be used is web video conferencing. There are two video conferencing web applications that have similar features, Bigbluebutton and Jitsi. This application has a difference in Quality of Service, so a comparison of QOS Bigbluebutton and Jitsi on Ubuntu 16.04 is to make it easier for users to choose effective applications to use.Keywords: Meeting, Video Conference, Quality of Service, Ubuntu 16.04

Abstract

Bioplastic is one of alternative solution to change comercial plastic that can be dangerous to environment. Bioplastic can make degradation become easier. One of potential raw materialis sago because it has a highest starch component. The general aims of this research are the study of impact Microcrystalline cellulose filler and plasticizer glycerol to mechanicalproperties and morphology of bioplastic. The synthesis method is casting of starch, water, filler and plasticizer with composisition of filler is (4-12 % b/b), composisition of plasticizer (10–22 % b/b), and composisition of water (100-150 ml). The analysis of bioplastic is tensile strenght, elongation, modulus young, hidrophobicity (water uptake), biodegradation, SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy), and design expert v.10.0.1 trial version. The most react variable is the composition of filler, followed by plastcizer glycerol and water ratio. The best process condition is bioplastic with composisition filler 12 %b/b, plasticizer 10 % b/b, andwater compotition 100 ml with the value is tensile strenght 14,21 Mpa, elongation 36,91%, water uptake 36,91%, and biodegradation 34,43%. Micrograf analysis shows that fillerdistribution is not equally on sago starch matrices and stil has a clod.Keywords : bioplastic, casting, filler, plasticizer, water uptake
