Abstract

Background Many students struggle to understand complex academic material, which negatively impacts their academic performance Purpose This study aims to examine the influence of psychomotor and cognitive aspects on the academic achievement of management students at Muhammadiyah University of East Kalimantan. Design/method/approach This study uses a quantitative research design. Data were collected through structured questionnaires distributed directly to the selected students, as well as documentation of their academic records. The sample of 180 students was determined using the Slovin formula and selected by random sampling from a total population of 328 students. The collected data were analyzed statistically using SPSS 27 software, employing classical assumption tests, multiple linear regression, and hypothesis testing to assess the relationship between cognitive factors and academic achievement. Results The analysis revealed that cognitive aspects have a significant positive influence on the academic achievement of eighth-semester management students at Universitas Muhammadiyah Kalimantan Timur. Students who demonstrated stronger cognitive skills—such as critical thinking, understanding, and the ability to analyze material—tended to achieve higher academic performance, as reflected in their GPA and other academic indicators. The statistical results from multiple linear regression showed that the cognitive variable contributed meaningfully to variations in students’ academic success. These findings suggest that efforts to enhance cognitive abilities among students can lead to improved academic outcomes in higher education settings. Contribution/value This study provides valuable insight into the specific role of cognitive aspects in shaping academic achievement among eighth-semester management students at Universitas Muhammadiyah Kalimantan Timur. The findings offer practical recommendations for educators to design learning strategies that better support students’ cognitive growth.

Abstract

Background Managing a Qur’an memorization program for young students poses unique challenges, as it requires managerial strategies that are appropriate to their developmental stages and necessitates the involvement of multiple stakeholders, including parents. Purpose The purpose of this study is to analyze the management of the Qur’an memorization program at Darussalam Islamic Boarding School in Sampit, with a specific focus on the aspects of planning and implementation, as well as to identify the supporting factors and obstacles encountered. Design/method/approach This study employs a qualitative descriptive method, with data collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis. Results The results of the study indicate that the management of the Qur’an memorization program is carried out systematically through several stages: planning memorization targets, implementing activities tailored to the children's characteristics and needs, and conducting regular evaluations through tasmi’, munaqosah, and muroja’ah. The program’s success is supported by teachers’ commitment, a conducive boarding school environment, and effective motivational strategies. The main challenges include the lack of parental involvement and inconsistency in memorization during holidays or when the children are at home. Contribution/value To address these challenges, it is necessary to strengthen collaboration between the boarding school and parents, as well as to develop a more robust and consistent evaluation system. The findings of this study can serve as a reference for other Islamic educational institutions in designing adaptive and sustainable Qur’an memorization programs.

Abstract

Background Traditional training methods often emphasize generic content and may fail to address the specific competencies needed for effective performance in customer service roles. Consequently, there is a growing need for competency-based training (CBT) programs that align training objectives with actual job requirements and performance expectations. CBT focuses on developing specific skills, behaviors, and knowledge areas that are directly linked to job success. Purpose This study aims to analyze the need for competency-based training for Customer Service Representatives (CSR) at Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI), especially in Region VI Bandung. Design/method/approach Using a descriptive-verification approach with a non-experimental method, data were collected through a Likert questionnaire from CSR Region VI Bandung. Cluster analysis and Mann-Whitney tests revealed that out of 12 competency indicators, there were 8 indicators (such as empathy, communication, and problem solving) that showed significant differences between the superior and average CSR groups. Results This study shows that eight core competencies such as empathy, communication, and problem-solving need to be improved through focused training to enhance CSR performance at Bank Syariah Indonesia. Contribution/value This study holds strategic value in designing data-driven CSR competency training to enhance service quality in Islamic banking.
