Abstract

Background: Dengue Haemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is the most common arbovirus on human, and causes hundreds of deaths every years. Two laboratory criteria used to diagnose this disease are thrombocytopenia and increased hematocrit concentration (hemoconcentration). The purpose of this study is to analyze the correlation between platelet count and hematocrit concentration in DHF patients. Methods: This research was observational analytic study with cross sectional approach at Moewardi Hospital. Sample was taken from adult DHF cases at Moewardi Hospital. The data was gathered from medical records of patients. Sample selection had been done by checking the inclusion and exclusion criteria of the study sample, and the amount of samples in this study was 142 subjects. Variables correlated were platelet count and hematocrit. The data was statistically analyzed using Kolomogorov-Sminov normality test and Pearson correlation test. Results: Patients’ age ranging between 18-71 years old, with the mean age was 28 years old. The mean platelet count was 69.000/µl. The mean hematocrit concentration was 43%. There was a significantly negative correlation between platelet count and hematocrit concentration in DHF patient, but this correlation was weak (p=0,008;      r= -0,222). Conclusion: There is a significantly negative weak correlation between Platelet Count and Hematocrit concentration in DHF Patients. The lower the platelet count, the hematocrit percentage would be higher. Keywords: Dengue Haemorrhagic Fever, Platelet Count, Hematocrit

Abstract

Background: Stroke can cause brain damage that ends up as a serious long-term disability. Some previous research mentioned that albumin as a neuroprotector in ischemic stroke. Albumin can improve ischemic stroke prognosis by anti-edema effects, hemodilution effects, and antioxidants effects. Methods: This study is an analytical observational research with a cross sectional approach. The amount of sample in this study is 32 ischemic stroke patients at Dr. Moewardi Hospital, Surakarta were selected by simple random sampling. The sample were selected according to both inclusive and exclusive criteria that determined by the researcher. The dependent variable in this study is ischemic stroke prognosis, the independent variable is serum albumin level, and confounding variable are age, stroke severity degree, premorbid conditions, and post-stroke complications. Researcher gives the explanation and helps the patients to fill (1) Biodata form and informed consent, (2) Serum albumin level, ages, stroke severity degree, premorbid conditions, and post-stroke complications, and (3) Barthel Index. The collective data were analyzed using the Spearman Test and then processed with odds ratio calculation. Then, confounding variable was calculated with binary logistic regression analysis. Abstract

Background: Epilepsy is a chronic neurological disorder impacting on the child development. Children with epilepsy are at considerable risk for behavioral problems such as hyperactivity disorder, emotionality, and conduct problems. Comprehensive care including assessment of behavioral problems is needed for epileptic children. This study aimed to determine the differences in behavioral problems in children patient with epilepsy compared with children patients without epilepsy. Methods: The cross sectional study was conducted by 36 patients which consist of 20 children with epilepsy and 16 children without epilepsy in the pediatric clinic of RSUD Dr. Moewardi who met the inclusion criteria. Behavioral problems were screened by using the Strength and Difficulty Questionnaire (SDQ) Indonesian version. Data were analyzed by Fisher’s test and binary logistic regression. Results: Groups of children with epilepsy were significantly higher experiencing behavioral problems (36,1% vs 2,8% in controls, p < 0.001). Significant differences were also found in the percentage of emotional disorders and hyperactivity (p = 0.018 dan p = 0.004). Based on the multivariate analysis using binary logistic regression we concluded that the factors associated with behavioral disorders in children with epilepsy were the presence of a focus on EEG (95% CI 1.68–238.63, p = 0.018) and AED’s polytherapy (95% CI 1.03-67.14, p = 0.046). We also found that the presence of a focus on EEG was a factor related to hyperactivity (95% CI 1.75-141.40, p = 0.014). Conclusions: Children patient with epilepsy have at greater risk behavioral problems than children without epilepsy. A focus on the result of EEG  and AED’s polytherapy are factors associated with increased risk of behavior problems in children with epilepsy. Keywords: epilepsy, children, behavioral problems, SDQ

Abstract

Background: Dengue Hemmorhagic Fever is still one of the major public health problem in Indonesia. The classification of Dengue severity from mild to severe is very important because it can prevent the progression of Dengue. Unfortunately the WHO 2011 criteria for Dengue severity only contains the clinical symptoms of patients without including the exact value of complete blood count, like platelet and leukocyte, in each degree. This study was conducted to determine whether there was a difference between the value of platelet and leukocyte in each clinical degree of Dengue Methods: This research was an analytical observational study with cross sectional approach. It was carried out in Dr. Moewardi hospital, Surakarta from July to October 2014. Children who were hospitalized in Dr. Moewardi hospital from January 1st to December 31st 2013 whom fulfill all of the inclusion criteria and none of the exclusion criteria were eliglible. Data was taken from medical record an analyzed using Kruskal-Wallis test and Spearman test. Results: Among 203 patiens were diagnosed with Dengue hemorrhagic fever, 113 (55%) patients were in DHF 1, 52 (25%) patiens were in DHF 2, and 38 (20%) were DSS patients. The difference of platelet count in each degree was significant (p=0,01). The difference of leukocyte in each degree was significant (p=0,002). The association between platelet count and clinical Dengue degree was statistically significant (p=0,005) with very weak negative correlation (r=-0,198). The association between leukocyte count and clinical Dengue degree was statistically significant (p=0,001) with weak positive correlation (r=0,227) Conclusions:There are significant differences of platelet and leukocyte count in clinical Dengue degree of children in Dr. Moewardi hospital, Surakarta. There are no correlation between platelet and leukocyte with clinical Dengue degree of children in Dr. Moewardi hospital, Surakarta although statistically significant. Abstract

Background: In Indonesia, every year more than 15,000 cases of cervical cancer detected and approximately 8000 cases of which were fatal. The high prevalence of cervical cancer deaths in Indonesia may be caused by delays in diagnosis so that when detected, the disease has reached an advanced stage. Early detection of cervical cancer by Pap Smear is suitable method applied in developing countries because in addition to easy, cheap, effective, non-invasive. But in practice, these methods are still having problems such as doubt of the importance of examinations, lack of knowledge, and the fear of pain during the examination. The objective of this research is to know  the correlation between knowledge level of women in  Reproductive Age Couples (RAC) concerning Pap Smear with Pap Smear Test services utilization. Methods: The study design was analytic observational with cross sectional approach. The sample of this research was women in  Reproductive Age Couples (RAC) in Gajahan Health Center, Surakarta. The number of samples were 90 people and were teken by simple random sampling tehnique. The people who was chosen as the sample are given the questionnaire, then they answered the question in the questionnaire. After the data collected, then the data was analyzed using Chi-Square test. (χ2). Results: Percentage of women in Reproductive Age Couples who use VIA test services is 37.8%. Statistical tests using Chi-Square test performed on the variables which  were knowledge level concerning Pap Smear with Pap Smear Test services utilization. Statistical test result value of the test statistic (χ2) was 9.137 with a significance (p) of 0.003. P-value < 0.1 means that the confidence level of 90% or 10% significance level significant correlation both variables. Conclusions: There was a correlation between knowledge level of women in  Reproductive Age Couples (RAC) concerning Pap Smear with Pap Smear Test services utilization. Women with higher knowledge concerning Pap Smear, lean to utilize Pap Smear test  services. Keywords: knowledge level concerning Pap Smear, women in reproductive age couples, Pap Smear test services utilization.
