Abstract

Background: Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus is a global and Indonesian health problem which is estimated to increase in the future. One of the long-term complications of diabetes mellitus is the presence of neuropathy which will cause erectile dysfunction. Hypertension often accompanies the presence of diabetes mellitus. Untreated hypertension in diabetes mellitus will worsen the incidence of erectile dysfunction. This happened because in hypertension occurs a vascular endothelial damage and decreased production of NO which is a major mediator of erection. Methods: This study was an observational analytic study with cross sectional approach held in August – September 2014 in the Polyclinic of Internal Medicine RSUD Dr. Moewardi. Sampling was done by Purposive Random Sampling technique, selection was done by checking the inclusion and exclusion criteria of the study sample. The number of samples in this study were 30 patients. Hereafter, the data obtained were statistically analyzed by Chi-Square test (X2). Results: The results of the Chi-Square test’s analysis of the incidence of erectile dysfunction was obtained a significant differences between patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus with hypertension and non-hypertension (p<0,05). Hypertension in diabetes mellitus increases the risk of erectile dysfunction by 9 times compared to non-hypertension (OR=9,750,p=0,008). Conclusions: There was a statistically significant difference of erectile dysfunction between patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus with hypertension and non-hypertension. Hypertension in diabetes mellitus increases the risk of erectile dysfunction by 9,7 times compared to non-hypertension. Keywords: Diabetes Mellitus, Erectile Dysfunction, Hypertension

Abstract

Background: Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease COPD) is one of the causes of respiratory disorder that is often found in the world. Along with the increase in COPD complications, patients require a special effort to prevent lung decline of function in order to improve the quality of life. Samples of this study were 40 COPD patients in the outpatient pulmonary clinic of RSUD Dr. Moewardi were selected using purposive sampling technique. The independent variable of this study is self-efficacy which was measured with the COPD Self-Efficacy questionnaire (CSES). The dependent variable of this study is quality of life as measured by COPD Assesstment Test (CAT) questionnaire. The confounding variables of degree of smoking, duration of COPD, and the degree of breathlessness measured by respondent characteristics questionnaire and Modified Medical Research Council scale (mMRC scale). The data were analyzed using multiple logistic regression models. Results: Results of multiple logistic regression analysis showed the results OR = 72.055; CI 95% from 1300 to 3944.041; and p = 0.037. This result has controlled the confounding variables, namely the long-suffering COPD, degree of smoking and degree of breath shortness. Patients who have good self-efficacy have a good quality of life for seventy-two times greater than patients who have poor self-efficacy. Abstract

Background: Anxiety disorder have been reported to be associate with increased rates of smoking, increased consumption of cigarettes per smoker, and lower rates of smoking cessation than non-anxiety disordered control groups. In addition, increased anxiety symptoms appear to be correlated with increased rates of smoking. This study aimed to analyze the differences of anxiety level between smoking student and non-smoking student of Faculty Letter and Fine Arts Sebelas Maret University. Method: This study was an observational analytic study with cross sectional approach. The study sample totaled 100 students, between 50 smoking students and 50 non-smoking students of Faculty Letter and Fine Arts Sebelas Maret University class of 2008-2013 which were randomly drawn by purposive sampling technique and continued with simple random sampling. Each respondent was given one standard questionnaire of TMAS (Taylor Manifest Anxiety Scale), L-MMPI (Lie-scale Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory), and standard questionnaire of smokers. The TMAS questionnaire consisting of 50 “yes” or “no” option questions, L-MMPI questionnaire consisting of 10 “yes” or “no” option questions, and smokers questionnaire consisting of 3 multiple choice questions. The research data were tested with the Chi Square test, and would be continued with the Regression Linier test (α=0,1). Result: There were 13 smoker students had not have anxiety disorder, 10 smoker students had low anxiety disorder, 25 smoker students had moderate anxiety disorder, and 2 smoker students had high anxiety disorder. While 31 non-smoker students had not have anxiety disorder, 10 non-smoker students had low anxiety disorder, 9 non-smoker students who had moderate anxiety disorder, there were not found non-smoker student had high anxiety disorder. From the Chi Square test resulted p<0.1 (p=0.001) and would be continued with Regression Linier. From the test result showed correlation coefficients (r) in the amount of 0.411. Conclusion: There was a differences anxiety level between smoking students and non-smoking students of Faculty Letter and Fine Art Sebelas Maret University. Tobacco consumption had a moderate relationship with anxiety level. Heavier smoking on smoker student proved to be increasing anxiety level. Methods: This study was an observational analytic research with cross sectional approach, held in July – August 2014 in Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Sebelas Maret Surakarta. The sampling method used was total sampling and selection was done by checking the inclusion and exclusion criteria of the study sample. The numbers of subjects in this study were 214 students. Hereafter, the data obtained were analyzed statistically by multiple linear regression test and F test. Results: The results of the F test analysis with the number of significance α = 0.05 obtained value of p < 0.05 with a regression line equation Y = 2,660 + 0,004 X1 + 0,010 X2. Conclusions: There is a significant relationship simultaneously between emotional intelligence, level of parents’ education and index of student achievement. If there is no emotional intelligence and parents’ education level, the achievement index is equal to 2.660.
