Abstract

The aim of this research is to describe: (1) the types of syntactical errors and (2) the possible causes of the syntactical errors in the sentences found in analytical exposition texts made by the eleventh grade students of MAN Wonokromo in the academic year of 2014/2015. The research was a descriptive study. The data sources were 30 texts made by 30 of eleventh grade students of the school. The data were collected by using writing tests. The results of the study show there are five types of syntactical errors and two causes of syntactical errors. The types of the syntactical errors are (1) omission (32.46%), (2) mis-formation (22.72%), (3) mis-selection (22.41%), (4) addition (17%), and (5) mis-ordering (5.41%). The causes of the students’ syntactical errors are (1) intralingual and developmental errors (53.67%) and (2) interlingual (46.33%). Finally,  the results imply that both teachers and students must see errors as the key in understanding and solving the syntactical errors in English writing lesson.

Abstract

This research is aimed to know the quality of Bahasa Indonesia, English, and Arabic UUD 45 MTTs in terms of meaning accuracy, meaning clarity, and expression naturalness and to explain the factors that motivate the quality. This is qualitative research type which employs a content analysis method specifically semantic content analysis and grammatical content analysis. The data are clause unite in the Bahasa Indonesia, English, and Arabic UUD 45 MTTs. Research results show that the quality of Bahasa Indonesia – English UUD 45 TT falls into a ‘good’ category and the quality of Bahasa Indonesia – Arabic UUD 45 TT falls into a ‘very good’ category. The degrees of quality of MTTs in T2 consist of ‘less accurate meaning’ category, ‘very clear meaning’ category, and ‘very natural expression’ category. The degrees of quality of MTTs in T3 consist of ‘less accurate meaning’ category, ‘very clear meaning’ category, and ‘very natural expression’ category. The factors that motivate the quality are inaccurate meaning, unclear meaning, and unnatural expression.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan mengenai 3 masalah, yaitu: (1) jenis kata, (2) variasi makna kata, dan (3) ragam bahasa Indonesia yang dikuasai siswa TK Tarakanita Bumijo. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Metode analisis data yang digunakan adalah metode kualitatif yang dilakukan dengan cara inventarisasi, identifikasi, klasifikasi, dan deskripsi. Penelitian menghasilkan tiga simpulan. Pertama, jenis kata bahasa Indonesia yang dikuasai siswa TK Tarakanita Bumijo meliputi nomina, verba, adjektiva, adverbia, pronomina, numeralia, dan kata tugas. Kedua, variasi makna kata bahasa Indonesia yang dikuasai oleh TK Tarakanita Bumijo meliputi sinonimi, antonimi, hiponimi, lugas, dan kias. Ketiga, ragam bahasa Indonesia yang dikuasai oleh siswa TK Tarakanita Bumijo meliputi ragam santai dan formal. Indonesian lexicon mastery by Tarakanita Bumijo Kindergarten students AbstractThe purpose of this study is to describe the three issues, namely: (1) the word classes, (2) variations in the meaning of the word, and (3) varieties of Indonesian languages that were mastered by Tarakanita Bumijo This research was qualitative descriptive research. The data collection method was recording and interview. The analysis methods were qualitative by the doing inventory, identifying, classifying, and describing. The research generates three conclusions. First, the word classes of Indonesian language mastered by Tarakanita Bumijo Kindergarten students are noun, verb, adverb, pronoun, number, and task words. Second, the variation of meanings of words of Indonesian mastered by Tarakanita Bumijo Kindergarten students is the synonym, antonym, hyponym, lugas, and idiom. Third, the styles of the language of Indonesian mastered by Tarakanita Bumijo Kindergarten students are informal and formal styles.

Abstract

Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mendeskripsikan dan menganalisis wujud pematuhan prinsip, strategi dan fungsi kesantunan berbahasa guru dan siswa dalam proses belajar mengajar bahasa Indonesia kelas XI SMKN 2 Depok, Sleman, Yogyakarta. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan teknik simak bebas libat cakap, teknik rekam, dan teknik catat. Analisis data menggunakan metode padan ekstralingual. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa adanya pematuhan prinsip kesantunan berbahasa yang terdiri atas pematuhan satu maksim dan dua maksim. Pematuhan satu maksim meliputi: (1) kebijaksanaan, (2) kedermawanan, (3) pujian, (4) kerendahhatian, (5) kesetujuan, dan (6) kesimpatian. Pematuhan dua maksim meliputi: (1) kebijaksanaan dan pujian, (2) kebijaksanaan dan kedermawanan, (3) kebijaksanaan dan kesimpatian, (4) kebijaksanaan dan kesetujuan, (5) kedermawanan dan kerendahhatian, dan (6) pujian dan kerendahhatian. Strategi yang digunakan dalam merealisasikan kesantunan berbahasa meliputi strategi kesantunan positif dan strategi kesantunan negatif. Fungsi kesantunan berbahasa dalam proses belajar mengajar ini meliputi: (1) menyatakan, (2) menanyakan, (3) memerintah, (4) meminta maaf, dan (5) mengkritik. The realization of language politeness in the Indonesian teaching and learning process at grade XI of SMK AbstractThis study aims to describe the form of adherence principles, strategies, function of language politeness of the teachers and students in the Indonesian teaching and learning at grade XI SMKN 2 Depok, Sleman, Yogyakarta. The data analysis used the ekstralingual identity method. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa adanya pematuhan prinsip kesantunan berbahasa pada tuturan guru dan siswa dalam proses belajar mengajar bahasa Indonesia kelas XI SMKN 2 Depok SThe results of this research show that there is an adherence to the politeness consists of the adherence one maxim and two maxim. The adherence one maxim to: (1) the tact (2) the generosity, (3) the approbation, (4) the modesty, (5) the agreement, and (6) the sympathy. Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of the learning facilities, instructional activities, and teacher assessments on students’ English achievement of SMPs/MTs in Ende. This research was ex-post facto, involving three independent variables and one dependent variable. This research was conducted at 10 SMP/MTs in Ende. The population of this study was eight graders of the schools i.e., 1146 students. The sample consisted of 278 students which established by using proportional random sampling technique. The research instruments were three questionnaires and tests. The data were analyzed by using partial correlations and multiple regressions. The result showed that r1(2,3) = -0.026, sig 0.670), r2(1,3) = -0.050, sig 0.41), r3(1,2) = 0.322, sig 0.000) and R1,2,3 = 0.425, sig 0.000.

Abstract

This research aims to: (1) identify and describe speech acts in the film of Madagascar 3: Europe’s Most Wanted that suit to the language functions in KTSP and 2013 Curriculum for junior high school and (2) explain ways to apply the speech acts in ELT. This study employed the qualitative approach. The research object consisted of the utterances in the film. The data were collected through an observation and they were classified based on the speech act classification. The research findings reveal that there are many speech acts functions in the film suiting to the language functions in the curriculums. Directive speech act includes commanding and ordering, requesting, inviting, suggesting, prohibiting, and begging. Expressive speech act includes parting, thanking, congratulating, liking and disliking, greeting, apologizing, complimenting and admiring, agreeing and disagreeing, doubting, and refusing. Representative speech act includes convincing, informing, and giving fact or opinion. Commissive speech act includes promising and offering. The application of the speech acts functions in ELT is done by making use of the utterances to express the language functions in the curriculums.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan dan menjelaskan wujud kesantunan imperatif dalam interaksi dan mendeskripsikan makna kalimat imperatif yang digunakan dalam interaksi santri putra Madrasah Aliyah kelas X Mu’allimin Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta. Objek penelitian ini adalah kalimat imperatif lisan dalam bahasa Indonesia dan bahasa Jawa yang di dalamnya terkandung makna atau maksud pragmatik imperatif yang dituturkan oleh para guru, siswa dan pembina asrama pada waktu proses kegiatan/aktivitas. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah metode simak dan cakap, teknik yang digunakan adalah simak libat cakap. Instrumen yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah  human instrument yaitu peneliti dilengkapi dengan alat rekam dan kartu data. Analisis data dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode kontekstual, yaitu cara analisis yang diterapkan pada data dengan mengaitkan konteks ujaran. Hasil penelitian ini diketahui bahwa delapan jenis makna imperatif pragmatik interaksi santri putra Madrasah Aliyah kelas X Mu’allimin Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta dilihat dari tingkat ilmu, bisa dikelompokkan menjadi (1) imperatif pragmatik yang mengandung makna dasar “perintah“, yaitu makna desakan, bujukan, larangan, perintah, dan “ngelulu”, (2) imperatif pragmatik yang mengandung makna dasar “permintaan“, yaitu makna permintaan, dan (3) imperatif pragmatik yang mengandung makna dasar “nasehat “, yaitu makna himbauan dan persilaan. Imperative Politeness in Inter-Male Student Interaction of Class X Madrasah Aliyah Mu’allimin Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta AbstractThis research has two purposes. First, to describe and explain the forms of imperative politeness in inter-male student interaction of Class X Madrasah Aliyah of Mu’allimin Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta. Second, to describe imperative sentences used in inter-male student interaction of Class X Madrasah Aliyah of Mu’alliminMuhammadiyah Yogyakarta. The object of this study includes all verbal utterances in Bahasa Indonesia which contain imperative pragmatic meanings or intentions uttered by the teachers, students, and dormitory managers of Madrasah Aliyah class X of Mu’allimin Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta during the process of activities. The data of this research comprise verbal utterances used by teachers, students, and dormitory managers of Madrasah Aliyah class X of Mu’allimin Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta which contain imperative pragmatic meanings or intentions in Bahasa Indonesia and Javanese. This study uses the observation and interviewing method, with observation, involvement, and interviewing technique. Human instrument used in this study was supported by recording device and data card. Data analysis was conducted using contextual method, which is applied to the data by basing on, taking into account, and associating with contexts. The results of the research show that eight types of pragmatic imperative meanings in the inter-male student interaction of Madrasah Aliyah class X of Mu’allimin Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta as seen from educational and institutional levels can be categorized into (1) pragmatic imperative containing the basic meaning of “order”, i.e. insistence, persuasion, prohibition, order, and sarcasm (Javanese: ngelulu); (2) pragmatic imperative containing the basic meaning of “request”, i.e. request; and (3) pragmatic imperative containing the basic meaning of “advice”, i.e. urge and invitation.

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menjelaskan penggunaan deiksis pada teks yang terdapat di buku Bahasa Inggris SMA/MA, Kelas X. Lebih spesifiknya, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan jenis dan makna deiksis serta mendeskripsikan arah acuan deiksis pada kata dan frase dalam teks di buku tersebut. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif, yaitu mendeskripsikan jenis-jenis deiksis serta maknanya yang terdapat pada sumber penelitian. Sumber penelitian adalah teks-teks yang berupa materi ajar pada buku bahasa Inggris SMA/MA kelas X kurikulum 2013 yang diterbitkan oleh pusat kurikulum dan perbukuan-Kemendikbud. Penelitian ini menghasilkan lima temuan. Pertama, tuturan yang terdapat pada teks dalam buku bahasa Inggris SMA/MA Kelas X Kurikulum 2013 yang diterbitkan oleh Pusat Kurikulum dan Perbukuan Kementrian Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan mengandung deiksis tiga jenis deiksis yaitu: (a) deiksis persona, (b) deiksis tempat, dan (c) deiksis waktu. Kedua, deiksis persona yang digunakan berbentuk pronomina persona tunggal atau jamak, dan bermakna subjek, objek, atau kepunyaan. Ketiga, deiksis tempat menggunakan kata keterangan tempat dan kata penunjukkan/demonstrativa. Keempat, deiksis waktu menggunakan keterangan waktu sekarang, waktu lampau, dan waktu yang akan datang. Kelima, posisi kata atau frase yang mengandung deiksis dalam tuturan, menentukan arah acuan anafora atau katafora. An analysis on the use of deixis in the text English book for tenth grade Curriculum 2013 AbstractThis research aims to describe the use of deixis in the text of English book for tenth grade curriculum 2013. Further this research aims to explain deixis’ types, deixis’ function, and deixis direction based on its reference. This research employs a descriptive qualitative method in which the subject is the text in English book for Tenth Grade curriculum 2013.The research reveals five findings. First, utterances occured in the text consist three types of deixis, those are (a) person deixis, (b) spatial deixis, and (c) time deixis. Second, person deixis occured in the form of singular or plural pronoun, and it has a function as subject, object, or possessive pronoun. Third, spatial deixis occured in the form of adverb of place and demonstrative. Fourth, time deixis occured using adverb of time which describes present, past, and future form. Fifth, the position of deictic word or phrase in the sentences implies its direction in the utterance, whether it’s anaphora or cataphora.

Abstract

This research is in the scope of the translation evaluation of Spongebob Squarepants based on linguistic, culture and children literature aspects. This study aimed to evaluate: (1) Both of appropriate and inappropriate meaning based on linguistic aspects  which consist of: grammatical hierarchy and translation type in Spongebob Squarepants dubbing, (2) The meaning leads to the gay and capitalism cultural aspects in Spongebob Squarepants dubbing, and (3) The unlogic meaning to children's literature aspect in Spongebob Squarepants dubbing.This research is a descriptive-qualitative method, with the subject is Bahasa Indonesia dubbing's Spongebob Squarepants while the object is meaning evaluation on linguistic, cultural and children literature. The data analysis uses Milles and Hubberman (1992) The research results are: (1) Based on linguistic aspect is taken from 7 dialogues of Spongebob Squarepants Bahasa Indonesia dubbing of Newmark's, the meaning has been good overall, because they no inappropriateness or translation error in word, phrase, clause and sentence. which is a lot of inappropriate meaning so that it causes a total error meaning (neither semantic sentence nor communicative), (2) The cultural aspect related to gay and capitalism cultural taken from  dialogues of Spongebob Squarepants Bahasa Indonesiadubbing, in accordance with one of Newmark's criterion that is the culture uses target language culture. Later, the most dominant of gay cultural are in episodes 5 and 6, example: Sandy: A Citylacra SpongeBob: Sandy, please..the language! While capitalism is in episodes 1 and 3, example: We're getting a goermet chef from the chef exchange program and I'm going to raise me price to the roof, and (3) Based on children's literature aspect taken from dialogues of Spongebob Squarepants which are not related to its elements in accordance with Kennedy's criterion mostly about: the sea world theme as if land world, illogic sea creatures such as: a sponge, a computer,, and a squirrel, and also the setting about American terms applied in seabed.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan wujud kalimat tidak efektif dalam karangan siswa yang meliputi ketidaktepatan struktur, ketidaktepatan diksi, ketidakhematan kalimat, ketidaktepatan penggunaan ejaan, serta mengetahui faktor-faktor penyebab siswa melakukan kesalahan dalam menyusun kalimat efektif. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Subjek penelitian ini adalah karangan siswa hasil pembelajaran menulis petunjuk di kelas VIII SMP 3 Kedungwuni Kabupaten Pekalongan. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan teknik baca dan catat, angket, dan wawancara. Hasil penelitian ini adalah sebagai berikut: (1) wujud kalimat tidak efektif karena ketidaktepatan struktur meliputi subjek yang tidak dieksplisitkan sebanyak 39, objek yang tidak dieksplisitkan 35, unsur kalimat yang tidak lengkap 28, dan susunan kalimat yang tidak cermat 5; (2) wujud kalimat tidak efektif karena ketidaktepatan diksi meliputi diksi yang tidak cermat sebanyak 52 dan diksi yang tidak baku 17; (3) wujud kalimat tidak efektif karena ketidakhematan kalimat meliputi penggunaan unsur yang tidak perlu sebanyak 62, pengulangan unsur yang tidak perlu 18, dan penguraian yang tidak perlu 19; (4) wujud kalimat tidak efektif karena ketidaktepatan penggunaan ejaan meliputi ketidaktepatan penggunaan huruf kapital sebanyak 183, penulisan kata 163, tanda titik 301, tanda koma 93, dan tanda hubung 4; dan (5) faktor-faktor yang menyebabkan siswa melakukan kesalahan dalam menyusun kalimat efektif adalah kurangnya pemahaman siswa terhadap kaidah penyusunan kalimat efektif, proses pelaksanaan pembelajaran yang belum sesuai dengan tujuan, dan pengaruh bahasa pertama siswa terhadap penggunaan bahasa Indonesia. An analysis of sentence ineffectiveness in the essays of writing learning outcomes of the students of Junior High School 3 Kedungwuni AbstractThis study aims to describe the form of ineffective sentences in the students’ essays which included structure inaccuracies, the inaccurate choice of diction, inefficiency, the inappropriateness in spelling and factors that cause the students to make the mistakes in writing effective sentence. This research is qualitative descriptive. The subjects were the essays of writing instructions learning outcomes of the eighth grade students of Junior High School 3 Kedungwuni. The data were collected using reading and writing techniques, questionnaire and interview. The results are as follows. The forms of the ineffective sentences due to structure inaccuracies are sentences without subject (39 sentences), sentences without object (35), incomplete element sentences (28), and incorrect sentences (5). The forms of the ineffective sentences due to inaccurate choice of diction are inaccurate diction (52 items) and non-standard diction (17). The forms of the ineffective sentences due to inefficiency are the use of unnecessary elements (62 items), the repetition of unnecessary elements (18), and unnecessary decomposition (19). The forms of the ineffective sentences due to the inappropriateness in spelling are incorrect capitalization (183 items), misspelling (163), wrong use of periods (301), wrong use of comma (93), and wrong use of hyphens (4). The factors that cause the students to make the mistakes in writing ineffective sentences include the students' lack of understanding of the rules in writing effective sentences, the teaching processes not in accordance with purpose, and the influence of students’ first language on the use of Indonesian. The implication of this research is that the teacher makes such an effort to make a teaching strategy which is more appropriate in the teaching of writing that the mistakes can be reduced.
