Abstract

This study examines the key factors influencing income diversification among smallholder sweet potato farmers in Greater Tzaneen Local Municipality, South Africa. Income diversification is crucial for improving farmers' livelihoods and reducing economic vulnerability. A purposive sampling method identified 109 smallholder farmers, and data collection was conducted using semi-structured questionnaires. Descriptive statistics provided insights into farmers' demographic characteristics, while a binary logistic regression model assessed the impact of various socio-economic factors on income diversification. The results reveal that the average age of farmers is 43 years, with nine years of farming experience on average. The regression analysis indicates that age, distance to market, and education level significantly influence farmers' likelihood of diversifying their income sources. Younger farmers are more inclined towards diversification, while those farther from markets are more likely to seek alternative income opportunities. The findings suggest that providing targeted training and enhancing access to non-farm income opportunities can promote income diversification, particularly for younger farmers. This study contributes to understanding how socio-economic factors shape income diversification decisions, offering insights for policymakers aiming to support smallholder farmers' economic resilience.

Abstract

Learning in the new average era presents challenges and opportunities, particularly in implementing blended learning in teaching and learning processes. This study aims to analyze the effect of blended learning implementation on students' learning outcomes in history education at SMA Negeri 89 Jakarta and evaluate its effectiveness in the cognitive, psychomotor, and affective domains. The research employed a quantitative approach with an ex post facto design. Data were collected through questionnaires and documentation, while data analysis was conducted using Pearson correlation to measure the relationships between variables and simple linear regression to determine the impact. The results show a significant positive effect of blended learning implementation on students' learning outcomes. A correlation value of 0.345 supports this finding, with a simple linear regression test indicating that the calculated r-value (3.446) exceeds the table r-value (1.987), thus accepting the alternative hypothesis. Students' cognitive and psychomotor aspects showed significant improvement, with an average score of 87. In contrast, the affective aspect, encompassing spiritual and social attitudes, reflected good behaviour among grade XI social studies students. These findings affirm that blended learning effectively improves students' learning outcomes by integrating technology with traditional approaches. The strength of blended learning lies in its flexibility and potential to create interactive and immersive learning experiences. This study provides significant insights, emphasizing the crucial role of educators and education policymakers in adopting innovative learning strategies to enhance the quality of education in the digital era.

Abstract

This study aims to determine Social Studies (IPS) learning outcomes with a problem-based learning model based on Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) in elementary school students. The research method used is descriptive quantitative with quasi-experiment. The implementation was carried out in stages with the theory of Borg and Gall, and the main stages are (1) preliminary studies in the form of preparation and needs analysis; (2) preparation of model design and prototype model products in a participatory manner; (3) analysis of trials by learning technology experts; (4) operational trials carried out repeatedly / cycles accompanied by refinement of model products; (5) validation tests using pre-experimental design; and (6) dissemination of results. Data collection in this study was done using objective tests. Observations using observation guideline instruments on activities during the operational test process and pre-experimental tests. Questionnaires and performance assessments were used in the operational and model validation tests. The observation results were analyzed descriptively quantitatively, finding the mean, median, mode, standard deviation, and variance of each variable studied. Data analysis techniques used (1) descriptive analysis, (2) requirements test analysis, and (3) hypothesis testing. The findings of the research showed that elementary school students were motivated to learn by using TPACK-based problem-based learning models and had a high understanding of using ICT learning. The analysis of research results could affect the learning outcomes of social studies based on technological pedagogical content knowledge in elementary schools with an average score of 79.42. So, this research uses classroom action research conducted in 3 (three) cycles. The results obtained up to the third cycle stage (three) were declared complete.

Abstract

This study delves into the pivotal role of the Scout organization in alleviating academic stress among students at the State Islamic University of North Sumatra, Medan. Academic stress, a physiological and emotional response to academic demands, is often characterized by anxiety, worry, avoidance behaviour, and emotional instability. This research, employing a qualitative descriptive approach, investigates how the Scout organization aids students in overcoming academic stress. The findings underscore the significant role of the Scout organization in developing not just managerial skills but also leadership skills. It provides social support, encourages physical activity and relaxation, enhances mental resilience, and fosters positive character traits. The integration of these aspects creates a supportive environment that not only alleviates stress but also enriches students' personal development. This study underscores the transformative potential of non-formal educational organizations like Scouts in building adaptive skills and resilience among students, thereby enhancing student well-being and academic success.

Abstract

Pesantren, as an integral part of Indonesia's educational and cultural heritage, faced unprecedented challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic. These challenges included adapting their management and teaching methods to sustain their dual objectives: spiritual development and life skills-based education. This study examines the educational management strategies implemented by a girls' pesantren in Sleman, Yogyakarta, focusing on life skills education. Using a qualitative research design, data were collected through purposive sampling, participatory observation, and structured interviews with key stakeholders, including the pesantren's founder and educators. The study employs the ADDIE framework"”planning, organizing, implementation, and control"”to evaluate life skills-based educational management. The findings reveal that while the planning and organizing stages align with the institution's strategic goals, the implementation and supervision require improvement in terms of documentation and task formalization. Nevertheless, the application of practical learning and direct mentoring has effectively enhanced the students' independence and vocational competencies. This study contributes by providing a replicable life skills-based educational management model for similar pesantren and serves as a reference for policymakers in improving the quality of pesantren education in the future.

Abstract

Currently, teachers only focus on using package books in teaching in the classroom. Without the sophistication of technology that is not combined with teaching media, it will form students who do not show enthusiasm and do not have character in the learning process. Therefore, researchers are interested in making android-based scrapbooks. This study aims to determine the scrapbook's feasibility, practicality, and effectiveness. This research is a research and development (R&D) with a model from 4-D to 3-D. The result of this research is that the value of Aiken's V calculation on the validation data of material experts is 0.903, and media experts of 0.8 are classified as suitable for use. Then, the results of V Aiken's calculation, student response data of 0.932 and teacher response data of 0.89 are classified as practical to use during learning. Meanwhile, the calculating-paired the t-testest and post-test with a t-count value = 6.18 and a t-table value = 2.039. Since t-count > t-table, it has a "highly effective" criterion. This means that this media effectively affects the learning process in the classroom.
