Abstract

International relations not only focused on cooperative relations but also rivalry relationships that characterize the existence of competition to create progress in the global system, whose primary goal is to prioritize the domestic interests of each competing state actor. With all the demands for existing renewal, the modern world makes every country compete fiercely to show self-esteem as a great country. After the cold war, the source of world power has grown from being bipolar, namely the United States and the Soviet Union, to becoming multipolar. This paper will focus on the competition between the United States, and one of the countries predicted to become a new center of power in the international world, namely China. China's rapid progress in various fields has made it even more calculated and has become a new threat to the US as a superpower. Not only the economy and defense, now China's progress is starting to develop in the field of space control, and this is increasingly making the US-China rivalry relationship even more complex. This paper will be explained with a descriptive-qualitative research method that tries to describe in-depth and narrate the form of competition between the United States and China in the control of space and its astropolitics strategy

Abstract

Since 2015 the United States has been a signatory of the historic nuclear agreement with Iran known formally as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), which was also agreed by other P5+1 countries. JCPOA is the achievement of the U.S. and other P5+1 countries' negotiations with Iran regarding the limitation of Iran's nuclear program. JCPOA is also known to be the vital instrument to reduce Iran's capabilities regarding its aggressive behavior and malign activities, creating destabilization in the Middle East. However, in 2018 the United States government decided to withdraw its participation from the JCPOA. As we know, this decision had an impact on Iran's behavior, which several times violated the contents of the JCPOA agreement even though they did not leave the agreement. We are also witnessing the impact of this decision increase the conflict between the US and Iran in recent years. This research aims to explain the rationale of the U.S. decision to withdraw from the JCPOA nuclear agreement with Iran in 2018. This research using the foreign policy decision-making framework model by Charles W. Kegley and Gregory A. Raymond. This concept focuses on explaining factors of foreign policy decision-making in three sources of analysis and the process of foreign policy-making based on rational choice.

Abstract

This paper emphasizes that the Covid-19 pandemic is not just a health issue. It has caused a global economic crisis and most importantly a negative impact on gender inequality. The data was collected mainly from the UN Women and projected using content-analysis methods. Using a gender perspective, this study explains that the gender issues as a result of this crisis arise from economic activities that are not distributed fairly. In turn, this has spread to social lives of men and women with significantly more exposed women which are enforced in almost all countries. Job losses and the quality of life for both men and women have decreased. They are forced to make ends meet with increasingly limited resources. This can hamper the ongoing efforts on women's rights fulfilment and gender equality. Keywords: Covid – 19, Economic Crisis, Gender Issue

Abstract

Batik was first listed as an Intangible Cultural Humanity Heritage by UNESCO on October 2, 2009. As the home country for batik, Indonesia has committed to preserve and increase its popularity in the global market. These efforts are carried out through various strategies and policies to encourage the internationalization of batik, especially during the 2015-2019 period where there has been a significant decline in batik exports. This study aims to describe the strategy and government policy in encouraging the internationalization of batik in the global market. Using the Hybrid model proposed by Lei Li & Li/Tevfik Dalgic as one of the models of internationalization carried out by Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs). This model explains the stages of internationalization which include Planning, Execution, and Antecedent Phase. Based on this research, between 2015-2019, the Indonesian government has implemented various strategies and policies domestically and internationally to support batik SMEs, expand its non-traditional markets, and hold provisions on importing TPT batik and batik motifs to protect the industry. Yet, these strategies and policies were not very successfully implemented. The government efforts were still decentralized, so the strategic steps taken by various institutions and related stakeholders were not in sync. In addition, the shift in the antecedent phase to involve SMEs in every implementation of the internationalization program was also minimal.

Abstract

ABSTRACT This article highlights the Indonesian Government's efforts to reduce Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children (CSEC) in the tourism industry as a realization of supporting the sustainable development agenda, in order to create a society that is more alert to sexual violence against children. CSEC in the tourism industry usually involves perpetrators from foreign and domestic tourists who place children in physical and mental sexual harm. This issue affects the ability of national governments to protect their citizens in the context of sustainable development. Through the lens of international regimes and human security, this article reveals two main points. First, the Indonesian Government's efforts are in line with the mandate in the Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the sale of children, child prostitution and child pornography (OPSC). Second, the Indonesian Government, led by the Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection (KPPPA) together with the Ministry of Tourism and the Directorate General of Immigration, the Ministry of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia, has a series of national programs/plans to reduce Commercial Sexual Exploitation of Children (CSEC) in the tourism industry, namely (1) the declaration of Child Friendly Districts/Cities; (2) creation of child-friendly rural tourism free from exploitation; (3) establishment of a Community-Based Integrated Child Protection network; (4) stipulation of PP No.70 of 2020 concerning Chemical Castration; and (5) tightening the rules for entry and stay permits for foreigners. This series of efforts carried out by the Indonesian government can direct, shape mindsets and sensitize the Indonesian people to combat CSEC in the tourism industry in order to achieve sustainable development by 2030. Abstract

World problems related to climate change are in the spotlight of new discussions that are being hotly discussed again by countries. The formation and negotiation of the Paris Agreement is one of the real implementations that proves the seriousness of the international community in viewing the increasing temperature of the earth due to extreme climate change. China as the country with the largest greenhouse gas emission contributor in the world is a key actor in the success of the targets in the Paris Agreement. In the midst of its big ambitions to become the world's largest economy and industrial country, China is required to remain fully committed to the Paris Agreement program to contribute to the successful reduction of world greenhouse gas emissions by 2030. Maintain compliance with the Paris Agreement program in the midst of the dilemma of high domestic economic interests. This paper will be analyzed using explanative qualitative research methods and is equipped with Compliance Theory from Ronald B. Mitchell as an analytical tool. Abstract

ABSTRACT The phenomenon of globalization has dominated various aspects of human life today. Globalization has changed the patterns of human interaction and activities to be faster, more modern, and more innovative. In the economic aspect, globalization has led to the process of economic transnationalism, where TNCs and MNCs have become key players in the global flow of goods and services in various sectors. These transnational corporations are able to create new, modern, and exclusive consumerist trends that attract everyone and make them want to follow them. This is what happened to the trend of coffee drinking, which has now become a global coffee culture, one of which is pioneered by Starbucks Coffee Company. The presence of Starbucks Coffee Company in various countries around the world, including China, is predicted to be a challenge to the existence of local culture, such as the traditional culture of drinking tea in China, which has been a long-standing tradition. This paper will analyze the influence of Starbucks on the traditional culture of drinking tea in China using the concept of Globalization and Three H Scenario. The results of the analysis show that Starbucks has been able to internalize the modern values of coffee drinking culture and change the perception of the Chinese people, who previously only oriented themselves towards tea, to now consume coffee, and gradually Starbucks can displace the traditional culture of drinking tea in China. Abstract

ABSTRACT Nile river passes through Egypt, Tanzania, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Ethiopia, Uganda, Kenya, Sudan, Rwanda, Eritrea and southern Sudan. The river that is the pride of the Egyptian state does flow to various countries, but other countries do not feel the benefits at all. Only Egypt has the right to use the water of the Nile in accordance with the treaties in 1929 and 1959. 97% of Egypt's water supply comes from the Nile. Egypt has become a country with strong control over the distribution of water discharge in the Nile. However, as a country mired in poverty and struggling with severe drought, Ethiopia, considers the agreement irrelevant and very detrimental. Ethiopia finally challenged the historical water access rights through the construction of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD). This project is planned to be completed in 2022. However, the construction of this dam by Ethiopia of course be a big threat to Egypt because it can drastically reduce the availability of water to the country, so the right strategy is needed to be able to overcome the threat of GERD development. The paper in this study aims to find out how Egypt's strategy is in dealing with the threat of the construction of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD). In this study, the author applies a qualitative method. The author utilizes various related sources such as journals and books and is analyzed using the theory of the National Interest to be able to answer research questions Keywords: Egypt, Ethiopia, GERD,  Nile River

Abstract

The steel industry plays an important role in the EU’s (European Union) economy. Its main product is car steel road wheels (velg), which are an important component for the automotive industry. Many imported Chinese car steel road wheels have harmed and disadvantaged domestic producers and manufacturers. This is caused by the dumping practice that China applies to its car and steel road wheel products. In fact, China's dumping practice has also been repeatedly implemented for a variety of products that are exported to the EU market. For that reason, the EU took firm action by implementing an anti-dumping policy on imports of Chinese car steel road wheels. This research aims to describe the anti-dumping policy, its implementation objectives, and its impacts. This research uses the pay-off structure theory of multilateral strategy to explore the idea of cooperation under anarchy, which is derived from the neoliberalism-institutionalism concept. This study also uses a qualitative narrative analysis method by including a research question, namely, "How is the implementation of the anti-dumping policy by the EU on the import of China’s car steel road wheels?" The implementation of the EU’s anti-dumping policy on China’s car steel road wheels has several goals. The first was the EU's firm action against China's repeated dumping practices. Second, as a safeguard for the steel industry, particularly local steel road wheel manufacturers. Third, as a form of regional cohesiveness in order to face any economic injuries. Keywords: European Union, Car Wheel Steel (Velg), China, Dumping, Anti-Dumping Policy
