Abstract

Athletes require agility as a fundamental skill. A shuttle run is one method for assessing an athlete’s agility. The aim ofthis research is to design and develop a shuttle run instrument with recorded data based on Arduino. This shuttle runinstrument is used to assess a person’s speed and endurance, with the results being saved in a database and then sentto a website. Engineering research method is adopted in this research. In this instrument, an Arduino is programmedas a timer to calculate an athlete’s running time, which is controlled by sensors. The photodiode sensor detects athletespassing through the shuttle, and the ESP8266 module connects Arduino to the database. The data collected by theArduino is saved in a database and is accessible via the internet. The accuracy and precision of the timer of shuttlerun instrument is investigated. Ten students took part in the test to evaluate shuttle run instrument’s performance.Measured result shows the accuracy and precision of the instruments is obtained 80.8% and 99.5%, respectively.Based on measured result, the shuttle run instrument is accurate and precision for operating in agility assessment.

Abstract

This study is to determine the efforts to improve the understanding of Intellectual Property Law of students and lecturersin Higher Education. The method used is descriptive qualitative, namely identifying the understanding of IntellectualProperty Law of the academic community in Higher Education, which is then analyzed qualitatively. The results of thestudy show that providing students with understanding of Intellectual Property Law in Higher Education can be donethrough a structured teaching and learning process by developing a curriculum according to the substance based on thetype of Intellectual Property, by paying attention to the learning formats, namely attitudes, knowledge and skills, and byevaluating the three aspects. The effort that can be done by faculties that do not have the curriculum is embedding theIntellectual Property Law as a compulsory or elective course. To increase the understanding of Intellectual Property Lawamong lecturers can be done through their active role in scientific activities.

Abstract

Nowadays, social media is used to build not only friendship networking but also business. Various companiesand media institutions use social media to disseminate information. One of the most popular social media widelyused by business companies and media institutions is Instagram, including Netflix Indonesia, which has created amass media-based Instagram “Zinetflix”. Zines is considered an alternative media that provides a lot of informationoutside the mainstream mass media channels. The characteristics of zines are community-based, anti-mainstream,and offering a more experimental format than conventional media. Zinetflix is a media innovation in the cyber mediabecause it utilizes various features and technology to become a channel of information. This study uses a qualitativeresearch method with a case study approach. The case study selected is “Zinetflix” which was designed by moviecontent provider Netflix. The data collection was conducted through observations, interviews, and literature studies.The results discussed in this research is how the use of Instagram social media features become an informationmedia space in the cyber media era as Zinetflix does in the celebration of the National Film Day every year.

Abstract

The rapid development of new media has been the main force accelerating the trend of globalization in human societyin recent decades. New media has brought human interaction and society to a highly interconnected and complex level,but at the same time challenged the very existence of intercultural communication in its traditional sense. It is under thiscircumstance that we see more and more scholars becoming involved in the investigation of the relationship between new media and intercultural communication. Emerging topical areas in this line of research mainly include three categories: (1) the impact of national/ethnic culture on the development of new media, (2) the impact of new media on cultural/social identity, and (3) the impact of new media (especially social media) on different aspects of intercultural communication (e.g., intercultural relationships, intercultural adaptation, and intercultural conflict). This paper discusses this trend of research on the relationship between new media and intercultural communication.

Abstract

This research aimed to investigate undergraduate EFL students’ perception towards the use of Microsoft Word Referenceson students’ thesis and factors that influence the perception. This research used a sequential mixed method. There were 25 students from 7th semester of English Language Education, Ganesha University of Education, involved in this research.The research instruments were questionnaire and interview. The results from the questionnaires were analyzed usingmean score ideal (Mi) and standard deviation ideal (SDi), and data from the interviews were analyzed using interactivemodel analysis by Miles and Huberman. From the ideal mean score analysis, the mean score of undergraduate EFLstudents’ perception towards the use of Microsoft Word References on students’ thesis was 41.84, which was categorizedas average. This means Microsoft Word References can be used in managing citation and reference in thesis writing.Moreover, the interview result shows 11 factors that influence undergraduate EFL students’ perception towards the use ofMicrosoft Word References on students’ thesis, namely attitudes, motives, interests, expectations, novelty, motion, size,background, proximity, and time. The factors build two trends, positive and negative perceptions.

Abstract

Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) is one of the alternative public transportations in urban areas, which has begun to be implemented in some cities of Indonesia. By finding out the effectiveness of BRT as a mass transportation system, it is necessary to study the expectations of users and non-users of the Trans Jateng Purwokerto-Purbalingga BRT regarding the perceived social, economic, and environmental impacts. This study uses the text Clustering method to group public opinion based on similarities so that it can be analyzed further for policymaking. As a result, the majority of the community gave positive expectations of BRT implementation’s perceived social, economic, and environmental benefits. On the other hand, public opinion on the presence of BRT is not always positive and has a significant impact. Improvements are needed in several aspects that are considered not to meet public expectations to maximize the function of BRT as a substitute for public transportation for private vehicles.

Abstract

The obligation to maintain and preserve the environment, in the view of all religions and beliefs, is a must for thecommunity so that religious values and local wisdom of the community also become binding provisions to maintainand preserve the environment. This study aims to describe, analyze, and solve problems regarding socio-ecologicaldynamics and local wisdom about the adaptability of using technology in the community of Kasepuhan Sinar Resmi.This study uses a descriptive-analysis method which is to describe the analysis and discuss it comprehensively andintegrally. Data collection techniques were carried out through interviews and literature review. This study foundthat the community’s local wisdom based on its adaptability to use agricultural technology at the Community ofKasepuhan Sinar Resmi is related to environmental preservation and the effort to make the environment useful for life

Abstract

Coastal tourism is a tourist activity based on natural attractions, which is vulnerable to the risk of environmental impacts.The study was conducted at two locations, namely, Kuta Beach and Ancol Beach, which are compared by using theintegrated management of coastal zones (ICM). The research was conducted by collecting secondary data in terms ofinformation taken from online news analized using qualitative approach. The results of the analysis show that there areseveral similarities and differences in how the integrated coastal management (ICM) is carried out according to thecharacteristics of the coastal typology and the environmental impacts

Abstract

Grounded theory pada prinsipnya merupakan salah satu pendekatan penelitian kualitatif yang sangat dinamis, di mana proses yang cair dan kompleks akan memberikan hasil temuan berdasarkan inovasi dan kekokohan sudut pandang teori yang dibangun. Penerapan grounded theory dalam bidang arsitektur dan lingkungan binaan masih terbatas sehingga penelitian ini membahas tentang upaya penerapan grounded theory dalam penelitian arsitektur dan lingkungan binaan. Metode penelitian yang digunakan melalui kajian literatur dari berbagai sumber pustaka berdasarkan teori, data dan hasil penelitian di bidang arsitektur dan lingkungan binaan kemudian dikaji dengan pendekatan penelitian kualitatif grounded theory. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa dalam menghasilkan dan mengaktualisasikan konsep teori baru dalam bidang arsitektur dan lingkungan binaan, pendekatan grounded theory menjadi sangat relevan untuk dikembangkan karena sejalan dengan paradigma desain arsitektur saat ini yang berorientasi pada faktor kenyamanan psikologis, ekonomi, energi, keberlanjutan, mitigasi bencana, lingkungan hidup, dan teknologi yang terus berkembang. Sedangkan tantangan penerapan grounded theory dalam penelitian arsitektur dan lingkungan binaan adalah kesulitan penentuan level jenuh dan perbedaan latar belakang responden/informan yang memberikan hasil sebaran yang beragam sehingga perlu dianalisis dan dipahami secara rinci lebih mendalam sebagai suatu kesatuan dalam desain penelitian
