Abstract

The purpose of this study was to develop an instrument that reveals public perception related to the impact of organizingsports events. Theoretically, four aspects were used as an indicator in understanding the impact of sports events onsociety, namely economic, psycho-social, infrastructure, and environmental aspects. The four aspects were broken downinto 46 statements with five alternative answers. The validation test involved 113 respondents, consisting of 77 (68.14%)male, 36 (31.86%) women. The age range was between 17 - 70 years (M = 32.6 ± 10.9) and the level of educationwas from elementary school to Doctoral degree (S3) with a wide variety of occupational backgrounds. The results ofexplanatory factor analysis found the variables of sports events can be explained by four factors (economic, psychosocial, infrastructure, and environment) with a value of 63.24% (approximately 10.37% for the first factor, 13.096%for the second factor, 7.94% for the third factor and 6.43% for the fourth factor). A correlation coefficient test betweenfactors, totals, and items-total found environmental factors to have low coefficient values (r = -0.005, Sig. 0.961), andthree items in that factor had a value of < 0.3. Hence, environmental factors and items were excluded from the instrument. The results found that there were 26 items declared valid and reliable with validity values of 0.462 - 0.744 and reliability of 0.881 - 0.934. Thus, the property of the instrument developed was declared valid and reliable in revealing public perception of the impact of sports events.

Abstract

Technology and products are developed based on innovation, through sequential stages from basic research tocommercialization. The concept of Technology Readiness Level (TRL) defines technology development into nine stages, from idea generation (TRL 1) to the development of technology and products for commercialization (TRL 9). Leaping fromone implementation stage to another in technology development may result in technological valley of death. The processindustry is a group of industries that involve chemical processes in converting raw materials into products via series ofunit processes. Technology development for the process industry can also be defined in stages of technology readinesslevels, by using adapted specific targets for each stage. This paper presents a concept for assessing the development oftechnology for the process industry. A case study on analyzing technology readiness level for the technology developmentfor the Fercaf industry is presented along with factors involved.

Abstract

E-wallets have been widely adopted in Indonesian society, providing opportunities for fintech companies to competeon delivering the best service. There has been considerable research conducted on the use of e-wallet services acrossthe globe, however not so many research have provided a comprehensive analysis of the profiles and characteristicsof e-wallet users in Indonesia. This study aims to fill that gap by investigating the profile and characteristics ofusers of the top five e-wallet services in Indonesia based on their popularity, i.e., GoPay, OVO, Dana, LinkAja andShopeePay. This study also aims to understand the differences in user demographic information of each e-wallet.Using the Multiple Corresponding Analysis (MCA) method on the survey data from 409 users of e-wallet services inIndonesia, this study identifies several different profiles of users, i.e., three clusters based on e-wallet ownership andseven clusters based on the most frequently used e-wallet services. The results of this study can help to provide a betterunderstanding of the profiles and characteristics of the e-wallet users in Indonesia, which can be used as inputs to serviceproviders to improve the quality of service they provide to their customers and to reach an even broader audience.

Abstract

The Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning/National Land Agency (ATR/BPN) is targeting the realization of thevalid complete village map. This strategic program is carried out by mapping all land parcels including physical and juridical data so that an accurate land database can be created. This study aimed to analyze collaborations of three stakeholders: Land Office, City/Regency Government, and Village Government in realizing the complete village map. This study was conducted using a qualitative-descriptive method. Data collection was conducted in three ways: interview, secondary data, and observation field. Data analysis was carried out spatially on the main data and supporting data for the complete village map. The results of the study show that collaboration and data sharing (land registration maps, land value zone map, PBB block map, Regional Spatial Planning (Rencana Tata Ruang Wilayah - RTRW) map, and detailed Village Letter C map) between the three stakeholders are important variables for building the complete village. This study proves that the collaboration of the three stakeholders is able to accelerate the realization of a complete village database with results that match the requirements and criteria set by the Ministry of ATR/BPN. In addition, the data integration that was carried out can be used to create a one data village, which is expected to be able to provide input for the government in formulating policies.

Abstract

Many people misunderstand that the ITB Spiritual Camp (ITB SC) is considered a duplication of co-curricular activitiesof Islamic education. This research proves that ITB SC activities are different from intra-curricular activities. ITB-SChas sharpened and enhanced the point of moral spirituality, while the intra-curricular activities have enhanced andsharpened students’ rationality of science, philosophy, and the application of technology. The research uses mixedmethod. Analysis of the problems was conducted using theological, philosophical, and scientific approaches. Sourcesof data were taken from mosque leaders of Salman ITB, senior lecturers, mentors, and students participating in ITB SC.Research instrument comprised interviews, participant observations, and questionnaires. This research is based on thecorridor of Socio-technology. In conclusion, ITB-SC has a potential to harmoniously integrate rationality of science andtechnology as well as moral spirituality. ITB-SC has the potential to support changes in the culture of the implementationof Islamic Religious Education, which was previously centered on intra-curricular activities, shifting some of it to the cocurricular paths such as what happened in the ITB Spiritual Camp.

Abstract

This article aims at elaborating the issues of trauma, violence against women and their agencies depicted in Indonesianfilm entitled 27 Steps of May. By situating the issues within the theoretical framework combining theories on allegoryand metaphor as elaborated by Jameson (2006), and Jakobson (1956), as well as theoretical premises pertaining to filmtechnology by Turner (2002), this study shows how film as a form of narrative texts can visualize those issues throughavailable technological features (camera techniques and mise-en-scene). Our close reading finds that the film presentsmetaphors of rape, women agency, amnesia and trauma through the presentation of the characters (May, Bapak, Pesulapand Kurir), also the mise-en-scene in its scenes. We argue that this film visualizes an allegory of national trauma inrelation to Indonesian May 1998 riots, specifically the violence towards marginalized groups (Chinese and women),which also represents the Indonesian collective expectation in acknowledging the national trauma jointly.

Abstract

This book was written to address the gap between problems of system design and the results of theoretical research in the study of cognitive psychology, experimental psychology, and human performance. Many of the built human-machine systems do not work optimally due to forced demands or requirements on humans as users, which is not in accordancewith the way humans observe, pay attention, understand, think, remember, and decide, as well as act, or in other terms the way people perform or process information. Over the past six decades, tremendous efforts have been made to understand and model human information processing and human performance. Another purpose of this book is to show how theoretical developments have taken place and been applied to improve productivity and safety of humanmachine interactions.

Abstract

Batik is one of the arts that contains a whole descriptive belief about how Javanese interpret their lives. It is found inclassical batiks, which are still committed to the standard elements from Keraton as a center for preserving Javaneseculture. Through studying classical batik, the writer finds a concept of Kacu ratio used in making batik. For thewriter, the kacu is a local form of genius that belongs to the Javanese community. The consciousness of the emptinesspermeates all material forms that exist in the universe. This belief is also applied to the process of designing batikfabrics. For the Javanese, beauty lies in the balance of macro and microcosmos. The actual balance lies at the pointof paradox. Through this research, similarities in the numbers of the Kacu ratio, which is believed to be the goldenratio of the Javanese people in ancient times were sought. Then the equation would be applied to the artwork. Thisstudy uses a qualitative method with several literature sources to dissect the Kacu concept and apply it to works ofart. The writer uses the Kacu concept to arrange visual objects as a scale and balance composition through a formalistapproach. Finally, the writer presents batik and screen-printing techniques on textile. Therefore, the writer needsto study the Kacu ratio further to understand what this ancient ratio means in the beliefs of the Javanese people.

Abstract

This article attempts to decipher claims about the ‘future of work’ based on the development of digitalization and look atthe policy response to those claims. Specifically, it explains the main developments of new digital technologies that shapejobs and employment in the context of Industry 4.0 and the emergence of various digital platforms. Digitalization alsohas an impact on the industrialization process to predict the loss of old manufacturing jobs. This is projected to disruptthe workforce that is at risk of new work patterns and dehumanization. This article is prepared using a qualitative methodwith a literature study approach, which aims to build a critical analysis of digitalization and its impact on labor andindustrialization policies. The results of this study indicate several industrialization policy responses at the global andnational levels for each digital development model. This study confirms that digital technology will not deterministicallyform a new future but the choices and logical consequences of a digital work pattern model that is different from the oldpattern. So, the industrialization policy response in the digital era must be able to answer the wave of disruption for theworkforce. Policies in the education and training aspects of the affected workforce are an urgency that cannot be ignoredin the era of industrial automation

Abstract

This research aims to obtain empirical evidence about the impact of “balanced messaging” (a marketing communicationpractice where both strengths and weaknesses of a product are communicated to consumers) in marketing communication on consumers’ brand loyalty. With three laptop brands being the subjects and university students in Indonesia being the sample, surveys with an experimental design were conducted. Participants (n = 90) were randomly grouped into those being exposed to product’s strengths only (Group A), product’s weaknesses (Group B), and product’s strengths and weaknesses (Group C) – with 30 participants in each group. Using ANOVA, the results indicate that balanced messaging can be as constructive as imbalanced messaging, which focuses merely on strengths in the context of brand loyalty. With several limitations, this preliminary study is expected to benefit marketers to create fairer marketing communication.
