Mandarahi Kapalo Banda is a traditional and local wisdom of Simancuang communities. The ceremony is usually performed after the rice harvest season where the communities come together to mandabiah kabau nan gadang (slaughtering buffalo), cook the buffalo meat, pray, and eat. This tradition came after a crop failure occured in 1980 due to hogs pests. At that time, the only way to cope with these wild pigs issues was to plant the rice together and in unison. Mandarahi Kapalo Banda is not only a local tradition to feel grateful towards the harvest but also as an attempt to ensure the success of future harvest. This tradition is a valuable momentum to agree the schedule of rice planting to save the communities' harvest. As the result, the Simancuang communities need a stable irrigation for their 180 ha rice fields covering from the upstream area to the downstream area of Simancuang Region. Therefore, the communities build an agreement and regulations to protect their upstream areas in the surrounding forests, set the spatial area management for their settlement, set the spatial area for rice field, and other regulations regarding the natural resource utilization around them. This description will reveal how the Simancuang communities understand their environment condition, enable them to define their environment to regulate their neighborhood which will eventually impact the forest sustainability.

Corporate Social Responsibility has grown as an issue in corporate governance in recent years. By having such programs, a private company might seem as having a social responsibility towards its social surroundings. In October 2020, no less than 19.056 studies had been conducted on this subject in various contexts. Even though plenty of research was conducted in the area, there is still limited understanding of how CSR helps a Multinational Company (MNC) during a crisis. This study will analyze the role of private companies (as the example is AkzoNobel) in providing for public needs while gaining economic benefit simultaneously. This study will use a qualitative descriptive method, with document analysis as a data collection technique. For analyzing the data this study will use Miles, Huberman, and Saldana’s approach to data reduction and display. The result indicates that a comprehensive CSR program combined with strong corporate culture helps an MNC in surviving its operation despite being in the middle of domestic challenges. This research may serve as a checkpoint for further study on CSR in society as one of the social-cultural issues.

This study aims to investigate about how the dialectic of social exclusion and inclusion occurs in the Sawang Tribe in East Belitung after relocating their living space from sea to land. The Sawang Tribe is a Sea Tribe in the waters of Bangka Belitung since the era of the Sriwijaya Kingdom, then settled on the mainland after being contracted as PT Timah workers in the Dutch colonial era. This study uses the Phenomenology-Based Ethnography method with data collection for two months in 2019 using live-in participatory observation with the Sawang Tribe in Seberang, Selinsing Village, Gantung District, East Belitung Regency, Indonesia. The results of the study conclude that the process of land settlement is very significant causing a number of risks to the living space of the Sawang Tribe. Social exclusion is caused by the stigma resulting from interactions between ethnic groups who view the unnatural behavior of sea people living on land. Meanwhile, the process of social inclusion is dominated by the psychosocial domain, which views the ethos of the Sawang Tribe as helpers and hardworkers, as well as experts in supernatural abilities.

This article discusses the village forest in Simanau. This research was conducted by using a qualitative method, one of which is a case study. Data collection was carried out by observation, interviews and literature study. Research departs from solutions to the problem of deforestation and forest degradation as business as usual or with international assistance through the village forest scheme. Village forests are one of Nawacita's priority programs as a strategic step in reducing deforestation and forest degradation and also overcoming poverty and poverty in national land tenure. My intension is to analyze the forest from a critical anthropological perspective, one of which is the political ecology framework to explore the village forest in Simanau. For this reason, I use the concepts of "access" and "exclusion" in sharpening economic goals in ecological terms. The research findings show that Simanau forest reform raises a dilemma where access to forests is limited for non-management communities. The concept of access is used to hide who gets (and doesn't get) the benefits of the existence of the village forest and through what they get it. This concept of access is then related to the concept of exclusion which means preventing people from accessing forests.

This paper describes the emphasis on rifaiyah batik which is a characteristic of rifaiyah people who are trying to be distracted by cultural activities through an activity entitled Celebrating Rifaiyah Batik which is seen in terms of interpretation of the Law on the Promotion of Culture. This research uses ethnographic methods and studies on Law Number 5 of 2017 concerning the Pemajuan Kebudayaan. The results showed that rifaiyah batik was made by rifaiyah people living in the Batang region. Rifaiyah batik is not just batik, but becomes a daily activity as well as a spritual practice of the rifaiyah. An activity entitled Celebrating Rifaiyah Batik was held as a form of concern, preservation and advocacy for rifaiyah batik to be known by the wider community by bringing the core message of rifaiyah batik. This is so if contextualized by Law Number 5 of 2017 concerning Pemajuan Kebudayaan, it becomes complete that the community as the owner and driver of culture. This research recommends that the interpretation of Law Number 5 of 2017 concerning the Promotion of Culture be interpreted transformatively. The government as a policymaker should support and create an atmosphere so that the community always preserves culture by continuing to explore the values of locality that exist in the context of promoting culture itself, regional development both in the human resources sector, economy and other sectors with cultural roots.

This article aims to review how anthropology and art pay attention to art, especially to similar studies that have been carried out in Indonesia. Based on this, it is also to show the implicit meaning of some propositions and associations of ideas from an anthropological perspective that can be considered for the study of art. In this sense, it is not to solve the great questions of the anthropology of art or confine oneself to the virtues of anthropology for art but to broaden the horizons in which they must be considered.

Tradition Tegal Deso is carried out every year on September 18 as well as a commemoration of the birth of Pasuruan Regency which is attended by all local people, coconut villages and their tools, humanists, spiritualists, and academics. The purpose of this research study is to find out the objectives, procedures for implementation, functions, and developments along with their setting as a symbol of the celebration of the founding of Pasuruan Regency. This study uses a qualitative approach and an ethnographic model supported by Niels Mulder's theory of the moral basis of Javanese society, while data analysis uses a triangulation pattern. The results of this study indicate that (1) the Tegal Deso in Dusun Sukci is a representation of the community's expression of gratitude. (2) The implementation of this tradition lasts for 3 days. (3) This tradition includes religious, socio-cultural, economic, and educational functions. (4) This tradition has developed, especially regarding the implementation time which is always undergoing adjustments, up to the most recent through Regional Regulation No. 8 of 2007 stipulated that September 18 is the time for the implementation of the Tegal Deso as well as a historical commemoration of the birth of Pasuruan Regency.

This research to describe activities of Martandang in the Mandailing tribe which has changed/lost, even though it is a custom in regulating how to get along with teenagers before marriage and local wisdom values. This research used qualitative with ethnographic approach. Techniques of collecting data were carried out by in-depth interviews, participatory observation and the oral history with 10 native speakers who had done martandang. The results show that martandang activity has changed due to technological developments and modernization, so that most of the Mandailing youth now no longer carry out this tradition. Martandang contains local wisdom values that try to regulate the way teenagers get along by recognizing each other's personalities without violating the rules or violating the norms that apply in Mandailing customs, a way to maintain the chastity of women in socializing until marriage and maintain politeness in behavior. The activities of this tradition used local expressions that can be interpreted as local wisdom values of welfare and peace. The conclusion of this study is that a revitalization model is needed that can transform the meaning and function, values and norms contained in the local wisdom of Martandang in the Mandailing generation.
