Abstract

Background: The success of basic life support is determined by the role of the individual(s) who first encountered a patient with a heart attack, and he will be a helper in the situation. Lack of socialization and training for laypeople makes them unable to implement a right first aid in cases of cardiac arrest. There is a need for innovations in cardiac, pulmonary resuscitation for ordinary people to facilitate them in practicing compression measures.Technic: CPR mannequin is made of a plywood material in the shape of the human body; it is 34 cm long, 34 cm wide, and 6.5 cm high. There are 2 LED lights to detect the accuracy of the compression depth. Conclusion: CPR mannequin can facilitate and improve the skills of laypeople in performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation

Abstract

Background: Fatigue in pregnant women can lead to cesarean delivery, also triggering problems during pregnancy, childbirth, and the puerperium. Therefore, there is a need for non-pharmacological interventions to reduce the level of fatigueObjective: This study aims to determine the effectiveness of giving progressive muscle relaxation (PMR) and aromatherapy to complaints of fatigue in pregnant womenMethods: This is a quasi-experiment with pretest and post-test with control group design. The sampling technique was simple random sampling, consisted of 52 respondents who were divided into two groups. The statistical using a paired t-test and independent t-testResults: After the administration of PMR and aromatherapy interventions, the fatigue score decreased significantly from 5.15 to 3.15; p<0.001. In the control group, the fatigue score was reduced from 5.04 to 4.00; p<0.0001. There was a significant difference in fatigue scores in the intervention and control groups (3.15 ± 1.592 vs. 4.00 ± 0.980; p<0.05).Conclusion: Combination progressive muscle relaxation exercises and aromatherapy are effective in reducing fatigue scores in pregnant women

Abstract

Background: Therapies for hyperglycemic treatment, including insulin and oral diabetes medications, have been confirmed to cause several side effects. Thus, finding new drugs with fewer side effects is of high importance. Salung leaf herb (Psychotria malayana Jack) reported used in traditional societies as a treatment for diabetes. However, the scientific proof of this plant for diabetes treatment is still lacking. Objective: To evaluate the antidiabetic effect of the P. malayana jack in induced type 1 diabetic rats by assessing blood glucose level and pancreatic cells in white rats. Methods: Alloxan used to induce type I diabetes. Rats randomly divided into six groups. A Group P1 received 250 mg/kg BW; group P2 received 500 mg/kg BW, group P3 received 1000 mg/kg BW. While group 4 basal received no treatment, group 5 received distilled water as a negative control, and group 6 received glibenclamide as a positive control. Medications are given for six days. Glucose levels were measured, and observation of pancreatic Langerhans cell damages. Results:  A decrease in blood glucose levels observed in all treatment groups. The most significant reduction (49.76%; 1000 mg/kg BW) occurred in the P3 group. Morphological features of pancreatic Langerhans cell damage were slightly high in the P1 group. Conclusion: P. malayana Jack can consider having an antidiabetic effect in a type 1 diabetic rat by reducing blood glucose levels.

Abstract

Background: Postoperative ileus is the main complication post abdominal surgery; it signs two or more periods of vomiting and nausea, intolerance of diet more than 24 hours, inability to pass flatus more than 24 hours, and abdomen distension. Several studies are stating that interventions chewing gum, consuming coffee, and drinking warm water can reduce the incidence of postoperative ileus. Objective: Collects the evidence for effect chewing gum, consuming coffee, and warm water to reduce postoperative ileus.Method: This systematic review is arranged based on literature studies from five databases last five years, such as Scopus, Sciencedirect, Proquest, and Oxford, with the comprehensive survey, which conducted according to the guidelines in the PRISMA. We searched for studies with the keyword "chewing gum" OR "coffee" OR "warm water" AND "postoperative."Result: We selected 215 articles from an electronic database, and 17 articles with Randomized Control Trials (RCTs) method included. The sampling of selected items in this systematic review carried for five months to 1 year, from January to December 2010 - 2017, obtained 20 to 975 samples. There was a significant effect of chewing gum, consuming coffee, and warm water reduced postoperative ileus incidence without side effects. Conclusion: Chewing gum, consuming coffee, and warm water, are effective, safe, and not expensive to reduce the incidence of postoperative ileus and improve recovery post abdominal surgery.

Abstract

Background: Quality of life (QoL) among the elderly is a neglected issue, especially in developing countries, including Indonesia. The QoL of the elderly is dependent on four domains. Living arrangements play an important role in determining QoL.Objective: The present study aimed to compare the differences in QoL among community-dwelling elderly and in social welfare institutions. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study. Participants were sampled from two settings: social welfare institutions and the community. The study subjects in each area were selected using a simple random technique. The total sample were 163 respondents. QoL was assessed through the WHOQOL-Bref. Data analysis was performed by the Mann-Whitney U Test. Results: There were significant differences depending on the residence of the elderly: the average QoL in a community is higher (84.16) than in social welfare institutions (63.95), and p-value < 0.001.Conclusions: The results of our study indicate that community-dwelling elderly have higher QoL compared to residents of social welfare institutions.
