Abstract

Abstract: Indonesia is currently experiencing a decline in the quantity and quality of natural resources. The main cause is due to excessive use of natural resources and destructive behavior without responsibility of various parties. Mitigation measures that have been taken only benefit certain parties. An appropriate management model that is beneficial for all parties is needed. Community based management (CBM) such as the management of Sasi Laut in Kampung Folley, West Papua is one of the models considered appropriate to apply. Sasi as a tradition, is thought to undergo many changes. The aim of this study is to analyze the dynamics of the management of Kampung Folley Sea Sasi and its impact on strengthening management. The results of this study indicate that there is a management dynamics that involves five momentum changes, namely the formation of the village, the intervention of the role of religion, the introduction of technology, the involvement of external parties and the establishment of regulations for Water Conservation Area. The management elements that have changed are territorial boundaries, regulations, authority holders, rights, sanctions, and monitoring due to internal and external factors. The management dynamics that occur are leading to the strengthening of Sasi Laut management.

Abstract

Horseshoe crab is an exotic and protected marine organism in Indonesia and is considered as the living fossil animal in the world. IUCN conservation status of Carcinoscorpius rotundicauda and Tachypleus gigas is still Data Deficient, and in Indonesia research on genetic population is lacking, if any. This study aims to reveal genetic diversity of C. rotundicauda and T. gigas populations in northern Java (Demak and Madura) and Balikpapan waters. This research was conducted by using molecular analysis with genetic markers Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA (RAPD). The primers used in this study were OPB 06, OPG 10, and OPX 03. The results showed that the highest polymorphism of C. rotundicauda was found in Demak (74.6667%) and heterozygosity was 0.2669. Furthermore, T. gigas had the highest polymorphism in Madura (74.3590%) and heterozygosity was 0.25551. Based on pairwise comparison tests, populations of C. rotundicauda and T. gigas in Demak, Madura, and Balikpapan were significantly different (p<0.05). The difference is believed due to the limitation movement of horseshoe crabs from and into the three locations, as well as the presence of natural geographic barrier. Thus,it can be concluded that horseshoe crabs in northern Java and Balikpapan waters has different genetic diversity. Genetically, horseshoe crab in northern Java or Balikpapan had relatively moderate diversity and low adaptation capability.

Abstract

Volume impor gula Indonesia pada tahun 2019 mencapai 4,09 juta ton. Tingginya volume impor tersebut dipengaruhi oleh semakin berkurangnya luas lahan perkebunan tebu. Kabupaten Lamongan merupakan salah satu kabupaten penghasil tebu dan gula di Jawa Timur. Produksi tebu dan gula di Kabupaten Lamongan mengalami dinamika yang cukup beragam dan dipengaruhi oleh perubahan kondisi penggunaan lahan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis keseimbangan kebutuhan lahan untuk perkebunan tebu di Kabupaten Lamongan tahun 2031 berdasarkan analisis perubahan penggunaan lahan menggunakan citra SPOT tahun 2007, 2013, dan 2019. Penelitian dilakukan dengan menganalisis perubahan penggunaan lahan, proyeksi jumlah penduduk, dan analisis neraca kebutuhan lahan untuk perkebunan tebu. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa jumlah penduduk Kabupaten Lamongan pada tahun 2031 diproyeksikan mencapai 1.419.843 jiwa dengan kebutuhan lahan untuk perkebunan tebu seluas 2.362,29 ha. Akan terjadi surplus lahan seluas 1.276,92 ha tetapi masih terkonsentrasi di 7 dari 27 kecamatan. Perkebunan tebu di Kabupaten Lamongan berpotensi untuk dikembangkan mengingat alokasi lahan untuk perkebunan dalam Rencana Tata Ruang Wilayah Kabupaten Lamongan tahun 2011-2031 mencapai 10.022,42 ha.

Abstract

CO2 flux from peat soil planted with oil palm is temporally and spatially dynamic, which is related to various environmental factors. This flux can be partitioned into fluxes from oil palm root respiration, litter decomposition, and peat material decomposition. The aim of this study was to determine the temporal and spatial dynamics of CO2 fluxes, the contribution of oil palm roots respiration, the contribution of litter decomposition, and the relation between flux and environmental factors in oil palm plantations on peatland. Measurements of CO2 flux using an infrared gas analyzer (IRGA) were carried out in harvesting path and inter raw of oil palm plantation, and nearby bushland. Flux measurements were repeated every three to four days for almost five months. Results showed the dynamics of the CO2 fluxes temporally and spatially. Temporally, CO2 flux in oil palm plantation and bushland ranged from 2.9 – 11.1 and 0.5 – 6.4 g C-CO2 m2/day, respectively. Spatially, the flux in oil palm plantation and bushland ranged from 4.8 – 8.8 and 2.7 – 3.4 g C-CO2 m2/day, respectively. The contribution of oil palm roots respiration and litter decomposition were 48.4 and 5.8%, respectively. These results confirm that plant roots respiration plays an important role in the release of carbon from the soil surface.

Abstract

Reef fish in Spelman strait, Indonesia, is one of the fishery resources of considerable economic value. Unfortunately, there is still the use of unfriendly resources equipment (destructive fishing) that cause potential social problems. In this study, all components of the EAFM (Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries Management) composed of 6 domains, namely (1) fish stocks, (2) environment and ecosystem, (3) fishing techniques, (4) culture, (5) social, and (6) institutional are analyzed combining with MDS (Multidimensional Scaling). The main aim of this research is to find out the root solution for managing coral reefs in the coastal waters of Spelman Strait. The sustainability status review in the fishery resource domain, the environment and ecosystem domain, the fishery technique domain, the social domain, and the economic domain were respectively were 87.69, 88.17, 51.22, 51.61, and 72.67 which were in the category sustainable. Meanwhile, the sustainability status review in the institutional domain was 42.15, which was in the category of less sustainable. Institutions are the primary base for reef fishery protection in the Spelman Strait.

Abstract

Nitrogen oksida (N2O) adalah gas rumah kaca yang berumur panjang dan memiliki potensi pemanasan 300 kali lebih tinggi dari CO2. Pelestarian hutan rawa gambut dapat mempertahankan sifat fisik dan kimia tanah pada kondisi alaminya, sehingga emisi N2O terjadi secara alami. Dalam upaya mengkuantifikasi emisi N2O dari ekosistem lahan gambut, ketersediaan data sangat dibutuhkan. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengukur emisi N2O dari hutan konservasi, dan untuk memahami faktor-faktor utama yang mengendalikannya. Penelitian ini dilakukan dari bulan Januari sampai Desember 2020 di Semenanjung Kampar, Kabupaten Pelalawan, Provinsi Riau. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan emisi N2O pada hutan konservasi lahan gambut sebesar 0.23 ± 0.19 kg-N/ha/tahun. Perubahan subtansial pada tinggi muka air tanah, suhu tanah, kelembapan tanah, ruang pori terisi air, NH4-N and NO3-N secara signifikan mempengaruhi pertukaran gas N2O antara lahan gambut dan atmosfer.

Abstract

Untuk mengatasi deforestasi, Pemerintah Sumatera Selatan berkomitmen untuk menjadi yang terdepan dalam mencapai Pertumbuhan Hijau 2017. Semua kegiatan ekonomi terkait tata guna lahan harus sesuai dengan regulasi. Sektor swasta mendukung dengan beberapa inisiatif melalui sertifikasi sebagai komitmen mereka terhadap nol deforestasi (ZDC). Namun dari data tutupan lahan, Sumatera Selatan merupakan salah satu provinsi dengan kehilangan tutupan hutan tertinggi di Indonesia yang diikuti dengan peningkatan kegiatan ekonomi. Kajian ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan komitmen sektor publik dan swasta dalam mewujudkan nol deforestasi. Kami melakukan wawancara dengan instansi terkait dan mengumpulkan data tentang intervensi publik dan inisiatif swasta. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori kepatuhan untuk menganalisis komitmen kedua sektor. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa sektor publik dan swasta di Sumatera Selatan telah menunjukkan komitmennya terhadap jenis kepatuhan yang diinduksi oleh perjanjian. Kepatuhan tersebut menunjukkan bagaimana komitmen tersebut diintegrasikan ke dalam kebijakan, pengaturan tata kelola publik dan swasta yang selaras, dan perubahan kualitas lingkungan yang baik dengan penurunan laju deforestasi dari 4% menjadi 2%. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa salah satu tujuan ZDC yaitu setidaknya mengurangi separuh laju hilangnya hutan alam pada tahun 2020 telah dilaksanakan oleh kedua sektor. Selain itu, kedua sektor tetap berupaya untuk mengakhiri hilangnya hutan alam pada tahun 2030.

Abstract

The manufacturing industry has an important role on the regional economic’s development. Nevertheless, economics development cannot be separated from environmental degradation issue. In Margoyoso Sub-district, Pati, Central Java, the disposal of tapioca flour wastewater results in environmental pollution and this situation rises a question on the awareness of entrepreneurs. The purpose of this study is to identify the moral attitude of tapioca entrepreneurs to the environment and to explore the efforts made by entrepreneurs to reduce the negative impacts of the wastewater. This research is conducted by qualitative method, using interview, observation, and documentation for data collection. The results of this study indicate that the moral attitude of tapioca entrepreneurs is classified as socionomous. This implies that the awareness of the entrepreneurs is at low level because the tapioca entrepreneurs run their business by following what other entrepreneurs usually do. Finally, the application of an appropriate eco-commitment concept, namely continuance commitment, is required in order to support the objectives of the business in realizing environmental sustainability for their business.

Abstract

The uniqueness of the mangrove ecosystem is a potential that can be developed as an ecotourism destination. Ecotourism activities are one of the many alternatives to overcome environmental problems in the mangrove ecosystem. The research objective was to assess the suitability of mangroves as an ecosystem for the ecotourism area of ​​Payo Halmahera Barat Village. The research used a survey method, which is to directly measure the biophysical conditions of mangroves. The results showed that the suitability value of the mangrove ecosystem for ecotourism was 73.86%, with the "appropriate" or (S2) category.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a strategy for the sustainability of shrimp aquaculture using an ecosystem approach or EAA in Pinrang Regency, South Sulawesi. A series of analyzes were carried out, namely the environmental carrying capacity analysis of aquaculture using pond environmental feasibility standards, analysis of critical factors for the sustainability of aquaculture using multidimensional scaling analysis, analysis of the sustainability status of aquaculture using pairwise comparison analysis and analysis of shrimp aquaculture management strategies based on EAA. using hierarchy process analysis. The results showed that the following strategies were needed: a) accelerating spatial planning and implementing programs in accordance with the directions for spatial use and control; b) institutional strengthening of capital cultivators in order to complement and improve facilities and infrastructure in accordance with the SOP; and c) increasing the level of education and providing a social and economic security system for members of the shrimp farming community
