Abstract

Being a teacher could be committed by anyone who has the passion in teaching, so that any situations in reality would not hamper him from the struggle to be a good teacher. Classroom is the laboratory for the teachers for their personal development. Students from whom the teachers can learn are their other assets. If an unfortunate system keeps going without any authority from the side of the teacher to change, being a quality teacher should still become teachers’ efforts to realize.

Abstract

The residential area and industrial economy in Indonesia specifically East Java has grown rapidly. This is a challenge for National Electricity Board such as P.T. PLN Persero East Java to supply the energysufficiently. Therefore P.T.PLN Persero through the branch company, P.T.Indonesia Power will build four (4) new plants with huge capacity more than 1,000 MW. One of the plant will be built in the administrative area of Perak Utara Village, Pabeaan Cantikan District-Surabaya City. The plant will be generated with gas and steam (PLTGU), that is a combined cycle between the electricity plant which is powered with gas (PLTG) and the electricity which is powered with steam (PLTU). The development of PLTGU is aimed for many benefits, such as: to fulfill electricity that has continually increased; to improve domestic, business or industry activities through continually electricity supply; as the peak loader of Java-Bali electricity supply system; and it is also aimed for supporting the 35,000 MW electricity government program. Even though there are many benefits of the development, it is often facing many problems in its implementation from community affected project around study area because of their negative perceptions. So it is important to conduct a community approach through project socialization and public consultation meeting (PKM) for gaining perception change, from negative to positive perception toward development activities.

Abstract

The teaching of English-expressions has always been done through conversation samples in form of written texts, audio recordings, and videos. In the meantime, the development of computer-aided learning technology has made autonomous language learning possible. Game, as one of computer-aided learning technology products, can serve as a medium to provide educational contents like that of language teaching and learning. Visual Novel is considered as a conversational game that is suitable to be combined with English-expressions material. Unlike the other click-based interaction Visual Novel Games, the visual novel game in this research implements speech recognition as the interaction trigger. Hence, this paper aims at elaborating how visual novel games are utilized to deliver English-expressions with speech recognition command for the interaction. This research used Research and Development (R&D) method with Experimental design through control and experimental groups to measure its effectiveness in enhancing students’ English-expressions mastery. ANOVA was utilized to prove the significant differences between the control and experimental groups. It is expected that the result of this development and experiment can devote benefits to the English teaching and learning, especially on English-expressions.

Abstract

Paraserianthes falcataria plant is well known to be capable to make an excellent association and symbiosis with mycorrhizae. Mycorrhizae can improve the plant's ability to survive in heavy metal contaminated land, one of which is Pb (lead). Pb is the main heavy metal pollutants in all environments. This aims of this research were to determine the accumulation of Pb on sengon plant roots and its   growth in Pb contaminated media. This research uses a completely randomized design. Pb(NO3)2 were given at a dose of 833 mg/kg and the concentration of mycorrhizal inoculation of Glomus sp. used were 25, 50 and 75 grams of mycorrhizae. The measured parameters were plant height, root length, plant dry weight, accumulation of Pb in roots, chlorophyll and protein profile test. The results showed that 75 grams of mycorrhizal Glomus sp. were the highest on several parameters including plant height, dry weight, root length. The chlorophyll content were grown on media containing Pb with each value of 77.5 cm; 17.86 grams; 31.5 cm; 8.99 g/ml. A dose of 75 grams of Glomus sp. also increased the absorption and accumulation of Pb in the roots with 3.60 ppm. while the protein electrophoresis show the specific band in P. falcataria  that exposed to Pb with molecular weight 53.67 kDa.

Abstract

This study investigates English department students learning needs including their attitudes towards student-centered and traditional teaching approaches, culture learning in English as Foreign Language (EFL) program, attitudes towards authority in class, the main problems encountered in the course in learning English and their practice of language learning strategies. In this empirical study, following Xiao’s (2006) questionnaire, the data are collected from undergraduates and postgraduates students. In analyzing the groups, one-way ANOVA Test is used to identify whether the mean score on a variable differed significantly from one group to another by taking into account variation within groups as well as between groups. The findings of this research provide EFL teachers with insightful information on students’ learning needs as an input to syllabus and material planning, to lesson planning and classroom instruction practice. The study demonstrates the importance of a good understanding of students’ variables in TEFL programs at university level in Indonesia.

Abstract

This is a descriptive qualitative study that aims to describe Indonesian economists language attitude, specifically on the way they label the products.By means of behaviorist approach, the study raises an interpretation of the economists throughot observation. In order to come to the answer of the problem, data employed in this present study is the secondary data derived from other researchers. Then, the analysis of the data is employed by reviewing the labeling process in three ways, namely reasons for labeling, characteristics of the language attitude, and the Act 24 year 2009. It is figured out that there are 29 products labeled using foreign words or phrase, and the rest 11 products useIndonesia language. The phenomenon shows that labeling in foreign languages would enhance the positive image of the  product. On the other hand, positive attitude is shown by the economists through their loyalty using bahasa Indonesia for labelling. Final finding is to show that the attitude displays the conterproductive to the Act 24 of 2009.

Abstract

Crowdfunding is a new phenomena. This fundraising based technology has increased in popularity since a decade ago. Crowdfunding can help people to fund their initiatives workings without boundaries because it only need internet connection to ask and give money. It is not necessary to gain relationship between initiator and funder. Yet, from the conventional fundraising point of view, it is important to build relationship in increasing the loyal funder who can easily fund the future initiator’s initiatives. Thus, crowdfunding has a potential dehumanization risk. This descriptive research will discuss about crowdfunding in Indonesia, and its dehumanization risks. Moreover, this paper will propose the model of donor relationship management to minimize the dehumanization risk.
