Abstract

This study examines the implementation of religious character education based on local wisdom in a civilisation school located in the City of Cilegon. The study is grounded in the premise that the integration of religious values and local cultural practices constitutes a strategic approach to character formation within contemporary educational settings. Employing a qualitative research design with a case study approach, the participants consisted of school principals, Islamic education teachers, classroom teachers, and students selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through participant observation, in-depth semi-structured interviews, and documentation analysis. The data were analysed using interactive qualitative analysis techniques, encompassing data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, with credibility ensured through source triangulation. The findings indicate that religious character values such as honesty, discipline, responsibility, and social care are systematically embedded in school culture through local wisdom practices, including collective Qur’anic recitation, mutual cooperation activities, and the cultivation of interpersonal harmony among school members. Teachers play a central role as moral exemplars and facilitators in integrating religious values into daily routines and culturally grounded educational activities. The study concludes that the implementation of religious character education based on local wisdom contributes significantly to the development of students’ religious attitudes, ethical conduct, and respect for local cultural traditions. This research offers a contextual model that may serve as a reference for other schools seeking to strengthen religious character education through locally grounded cultural frameworks.

Abstract

This study aims to analyse community preferences regarding private Islamic education in Masohi City, Central Maluku, in the post-conflict socio-religious context. The study uses a mixed-methods approach, combining qualitative and quantitative methods. Qualitative data were obtained through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation involving school principals, teachers, parents of students, and community leaders, and analysed using Miles and Huberman's interactive model. Quantitative data were collected through a survey using proportional stratified sampling techniques representing 10% of students in each school, namely SD Islam Al-Bina (29 respondents), MIT Nurul Falah (30 respondents), and SD Muhammadiyah Masohi (18 respondents), with a total of 77 respondents and a margin of error of approximately 11–12% at a 95% confidence level. The results showed that community preferences were influenced by five main factors, namely (1) religious motivation, (2) quality of education, (3) school facilities and services, (4) socio-cultural dimensions, and (5) economic factors and accessibility. These findings also reveal the transformation of the role of private Islamic schools as a substitute for Islamic boarding schools in character building, strengthening religious identity, and social reconstruction of post-conflict communities. This study contributes theoretically to the development of Islamic education sociology studies and practically provides an empirical basis for strengthening private Islamic education policies and institutions in Eastern Indonesia.

Abstract

Instilling religious character in students constitutes an essential component of national education goals, particularly within the framework of Islamic education. Conventional approaches often fail to effectively cultivate students’ inner awareness of religious values. This study investigates the revitalization of hypnotherapy-based learning methods in fostering students’ religious character through Guidance and Counseling services in Karawang Regency. Employing a qualitative case study design, the research was conducted in three secondary schools and involved six Guidance and Counseling teachers, forty-five students, and three school principals as supporting informants. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation at schools that had implemented hypnotherapy-based counseling services. Thematic analysis was applied through data reduction, categorization, and source triangulation. The findings reveal that hypnotherapy holds substantial potential in facilitating the deeper internalization of religious values, as it engages the subconscious dimension of students. The revitalization of this method includes integrating spiritual values into hypnotherapy scripts, providing intensive training for Guidance and Counseling teachers, and fostering collaboration with parents and local religious leaders. These results suggest that hypnotherapy can serve not only as a psychological intervention but also as an innovative and transformative strategy for character education. The implications of this study contribute to the formulation of Islamic education policies that are more responsive to the emotional and spiritual needs of students.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of religious leaders in Islamic education to increase participation in congregational prayer in rural communities. Congregational prayer holds high spiritual and social value; however, participation rates in rural communities remain relatively low due to various socioeconomic and motivational factors. Religious leaders play a strategic role as educators, mentors, and role models in instilling Islamic values within the community. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach with a phenomenological framework to deeply understand the process of Islamic education fostered by religious leaders in rural communities. Data collection techniques were conducted through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation in Sukamanah Village, West Cikampek District. Research informants consisted of religious leaders, mosque administrators, and congregants selected using purposive sampling based on their involvement in religious activities. Data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model, which includes data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions, while data validity was strengthened through triangulation of sources and methods. The results of the study indicate that religious leaders contribute significantly to the development of Islamic education through regular religious study sessions, sermons, guidance on worship, and setting a good example in daily life. This continuous guidance has proven effective in enhancing religious awareness and community participation in performing congregational prayers. Supporting factors include a religious environment, family support, and mosque facilities, while inhibiting factors include work commitments and low individual spiritual motivation. This study concludes that the success of religious leaders is determined not only by their scholarly abilities but also by the power of their exemplary conduct and a humanistic social approach in the process of community-based Islamic education. Theoretically, this study reinforces the concept of community-based non-formal Islamic education that positions religious leaders as agents of socio-religious transformation. These findings provide practical contributions to the development of a community-based Islamic education development model in rural Indonesia.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of educational values in Q.S. At-Taubah verse 122 in Kitab Kuning teaching through the Living Qur’an perspective in a pesantren environment. The research focus is directed at the process of internalizing the values of tafaqquh fī ad-dīn and li yundzirū qawmahum in the pedagogical practices of traditional Islamic education. This study employs a qualitative approach with a field research design conducted at a Salafiyah pesantren that still maintains the tradition of intensive Kitab Kuning instruction. Research participants include pesantren administrators, Kitab Kuning instructors, and students actively engaged in learning activities. Data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation of learning activities as well as students’ religious practices. Data analysis was conducted using the Miles and Huberman interactive model, which includes data reduction, data presentation, and interpretive conclusion-drawing to understand the process of transforming Qur’anic values in pesantren education. The research results indicate that the study of classical Islamic texts (kitab kuning) serves not only as a means of transmitting Islamic knowledge but also as a medium for the internalization of Qur’anic educational values encompassing spiritual, intellectual, moral, and social dimensions. The value of tafaqquh fī ad-dīn is realized through the tradition of deepening classical texts, fostering critical thinking, and the intellectual discipline of students, while the value of li yundzirū qawmahum is reflected in the development of da’wah responsibility, social service, and moral exemplary behavior within the community. The findings of this study affirm that the Living Qur’an approach offers a new perspective in Islamic education studies by demonstrating how Qur’anic verses are contextualized and sustainably actualized in pesantren educational practices. This research contributes to the development of pesantren-based Islamic education studies, particularly in understanding the integration of sacred texts, scholarly traditions, and the formation of students’ socio-religious character.
