Abstract

This study aims to examine and explain the impression of religious moderation in State Islamic Universities (PTKIN) in Lampung. The research subjects were lecturers and students of Universitas Islam Negeri (UIN) Raden Intan Lampung and Institut Agama Islam Negeri (IAIN) Metro Lampung. This research uses a descriptive qualitative-quantitative research design (mix method). The research model used is concurrent embedded or balanced combination models. The information collection techniques used were questionnaires and interviews. Information reduction, information presentation, and information verification techniques were used to assess qualitative data, while statistical information analysis was used to analyse quantitative data. Based on the results of the study, the proportion of respondents who stated "agree" with each of the ideal components of religious moderation shows that the general public's perception of religious moderation at PTKIN can be categorised as quite good. The implementation of religious moderation in PTKIN is necessary because a heterogeneous society cannot be homogenised. This newly implemented policy prioritises all forms of support and efforts to increase the moderation of PTKIN.

Abstract

This study aims to develop an English for Specific Purposes (ESP) module tailored to the needs of Islamic Education (PAI) programs in higher education institutions. The research employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive-exploratory method, involving three stages: (1) document observation, including the analysis of Syllabus (RPS) and existing teaching materials, (2) needs analysis through interviews and focus group discussions (FGDs) with faculty members and students, and (3) the design and development of ESP modules integrating Islamic content. The study was conducted at two Islamic universities in Indonesia, University A and University B, with participants comprising program heads, lecturers, and students from Islamic Education programs. The findings highlight several key points: University A lacks a structured ESP module, relying solely on RPS and inconsistent content across study programs. In contrast, University B demonstrates a more organized approach, with a dedicated ESP textbook titled English for Islamic Studies that incorporates Islamic themes, such as tafsir, fiqh, and aqidah. Additionally, University B effectively integrates digital tools and employs student feedback mechanisms to enhance engagement and flexibility in learning. Reading skills emerged as the most critical competency, supported by thematic Islamic content to improve linguistic and religious competencies. The study concludes that a well-structured ESP module aligned with institutional goals and students’ academic and spiritual aspirations can significantly enhance the teaching and learning process. These findings contribute to the broader discourse on ESP as a transformative tool for education in Islamic contexts.

Abstract

This study aims to analyse the content of petatah-petitih of the Lahat Regency community as a medium of Islamic education in the perspective of Maqashid Sharia. This research uses a qualitative method with an ethnographic approach, which focuses on the description, analysis, and interpretation of group culture. In addition, a historical approach was also used to trace the development and meaning of petatah-petitih in the lives of local people. The informants in this study consisted of community leaders and religious leaders who understood and mastered the petatah-petitih that developed in Lahat Regency. The main instrument in this research was the researcher himself, supported by the implementation team. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation and in-depth interviews to obtain a more comprehensive understanding of the substance of petatah-petitih. The data obtained was then analysed using the content analysis method to identify the values contained in the petatah-petitih. The results of the study show that the petatah-petitih of the Besemah Malay community, with some exceptions, are in line with Islamic teachings. The messages contained in these petatah-petitih reflect a fusion between the local culture of the Besemah Malay, global values, and Islamic teachings, especially in the social aspects of society. This finding confirms that petatah-petitih has a strategic role as a medium of Islamic education that contains Maqashid Sharia values, such as the protection of religion (hifz ad-din), reason (hifz al-aql), soul (hifz an-nafs), offspring (hifz an-nasl), and property (hifz al-mal). Thus, petatah-petitih can be used as a relevant learning instrument in building community character and morality.

Abstract

Stunting prevention requires a preventive educational approach grounded in Islamic values, particularly through premarital family preparation. This study examines an Islamic marriage counselling model implemented by the Office of Religious Affairs (KUA) as a form of preventive Islamic education aimed at strengthening family education and reducing the risk of stunting. The counselling model positions premarital guidance (bimbingan perkawinan) as an early dakwah based educational strategy that integrates Islamic teachings, moral responsibility, and practical knowledge for building healthy families. This research employs a qualitative descriptive approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation involving religious counsellors, KUA officials, prospective brides and grooms, and related stakeholders in Penukal Abab Lematang Ilir District. Data analysis was conducted using thematic analysis, including data reduction, categorization, interpretation, and triangulation to ensure validity. The findings show that Islamic marriage counselling functions as an effective preventive tool in Islamic education by embedding values of maslahah, parental responsibility, reproductive ethics, balanced nutrition, and family planning within a religious framework. This approach enhances couples’ awareness and readiness to establish healthy, resilient, and child-friendly families. However, the programme faces challenges related to limited counselling duration, varying levels of understanding of stunting, and insufficient human resources and facilities. The study concludes that strengthening Islamic marriage counselling as a structured educational intervention is essential for effective stunting prevention and sustainable family education.

Abstract

This study evaluates the policy integration of post-marriage counselling within Islamic family education in the District of Penukal Abab Lematang Ilir. The study is motivated by the increasing incidence of domestic conflict and divorce in the region, which highlights the need for preventive and educational family policies. Employing a qualitative research design, this study applies the CIPP (Context, Input, Process, Product) evaluation model to examine policy implementation and outcomes comprehensively. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis involving key stakeholders, including the Head of the Office of Religious Affairs (KUA), married couples participating in post-marital counselling programs, and local policymakers. Data analysis was conducted through thematic analysis, involving data reduction, categorization, and interpretation aligned with the CIPP components. The findings indicate that post-marital counselling contributes positively to enhancing couples’ understanding of marital rights and obligations, communication skills, and family conflict management from an Islamic educational perspective. Nevertheless, the program’s effectiveness remains limited by short implementation duration, inadequate human and institutional resources, and low participant engagement in follow-up sessions. This study recommends strengthening interactive counselling methods, enhancing facilitator capacity, and improving inter-institutional policy synergy to reinforce Islamic family resilience and ensure the sustainability of post-marital counselling integration.

Abstract

This study examines trends in heutagogy research in Islamic education published between 2010 and 2024 through a bibliometric analysis of Scopus-indexed publications. The study aims to map the development, thematic focus, and scholarly contributions of heutagogy as a self-determined learning approach and to highlight its relevance for strengthening learner autonomy in Islamic educational contexts. Using a bibliometric review design, data were collected from the Scopus database through keyword-based searches related to heutagogy, self-determined learning, and Islamic education, with filters applied for publication year and document type. A total of 175 documents were analyzed using bibliometric mapping techniques, including publication trend analysis, geographical distribution, and co-word analysis, supported by VOSviewer software. The results indicate a consistent growth in publications with an annual increase of 10.79%, dominated by contributions from the United Kingdom, Australia, Indonesia, and Malaysia. Keyword analysis reveals core themes such as self-determined learning, andragogy, and online learning, demonstrating the close relationship between heutagogy and digital learning environments. Nevertheless, gaps remain in the application of heutagogical principles to Islamic education, particularly in teacher education, curriculum design for PAI, and technology-integrated learning models. The study concludes that heutagogy offers significant potential for advancing autonomous, reflective, and lifelong learning within Islamic education in the digital era.

Abstract

The growing prevalence of intolerance among younger generations presents a significant challenge for contemporary education, particularly within Islamic educational institutions. Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) hold a strategic position as agents of character formation, especially in cultivating moderation and tolerance through education grounded in moderate Islamic values. This study aims to examine the strategies employed to strengthen moderate Islamic values in formal education at Darul Musthofa Al Mahmudany Islamic Boarding School in Pesawaran, Lampung. Adopting a qualitative field research approach, the study involved seven purposively selected participants, including pesantren leaders, teachers (ustadz), senior students, alumni, and community leaders. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and document analysis, and were analyzed using the interactive model proposed by Miles and Huberman. The findings reveal that the pesantren systematically integrates moderate Islamic values into its curriculum, teaching practices, and the daily lives of students. These strategies encompass the integration of religious and general education curricula, the exemplary conduct of the kyai, the promotion of tolerance through religious discussions and social activities, as well as the utilization of digital media as a platform for moderate da’wah. Moreover, active engagement with the surrounding community further reinforces the internalization of wasathiyah values. Overall, the pesantren demonstrates a contextual and adaptive model of Islamic education that plays a significant role in shaping inclusive students with a strong sense of national identity.
