Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of risk perception on the decision-making of prospective Indonesian migrant workers (CPMI) in the pre-departure phase. The growing public interest in working abroad is often not accompanied by an adequate understanding of the potential risks. This study offers novelty by empirically integrating the Theory of Planned Behavior and the Risk-as-Feelings Framework within the specific pre-departure migration context, demonstrating that risk perception functions as a significant cognitive–affective predictor of rational decision-making among prospective Indonesian migrant workers. This study uses a quantitative, correlational design. Participants were 150 prospective migrant workers who attended training at five Job Training Institutions (LPK) in Indonesia. The research instrument consisted of the Perceived Risk Factors for Pre-departure Migrant Workers Scale (PD-RFPS) and the Quality of Decision-Making Orientation Scheme (QoDoS), both of which demonstrated high reliability (α = 0.913 and α = 0.950, respectively). Data analysis was performed using simple linear regression in SPSS. The results showed that risk perception significantly affected the decision-making of prospective migrant workers (R² = 0.446; p < 0.05). The higher an individual's perception of risk, the more rational and careful their decision-making process is. These findings strengthen the Theory of Planned Behavior and the Risk-as-Feelings Framework by emphasizing the role of interactions between cognitive and affective processes in the context of work migration. In practice, this study's results highlight the importance of risk perception education and strengthening psychological literacy in pre-departure training for migrant workers to improve mental readiness and work safety abroad.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the forms and characteristics of Islamic communication among the millennial generation, especially in the context of social media use and the dynamics of communication patterns that emerge in the digital era. The millennial generation, who grew and developed along with the advancement of information technology, has a different communication style compared to the previous generation. They tend to prioritize communication that is visual, interactive, and involves active participation. In the realm of Islamic preaching, this condition is a challenge as well as an opportunity for preachers to adjust their message delivery methods. This study uses a qualitative approach based on literature studies by reviewing relevant literature related to Islamic communication, generation theory, and the use of social media in preaching. The findings of this study reveal that the success of Islamic communication to the millennial generation is highly dependent on the preacher's ability to convey messages contextually, use inclusive language, and maximize the use of digital media as the main medium. In addition, an approach that touches the emotional side and encourages active audience involvement is an important element in establishing effective communication. Therefore, an Islamic communication strategy that is adaptive to the development of the times, responsive to technological advances, and sensitive to the social character of the millennial generation plays a major role in strengthening Islamic preaching in the modern era.

Abstract

Muhammadiyah’s cadreization has historically functioned as a strategic mechanism for producing religious, intellectual, and socially committed Muslim cadres who are able to carry the mission of tajdid. However, in the context of contemporary student organizations, cadreization faces new challenges, particularly the shifting patterns of youth communication, the rise of digital media, and the need to reinterpret da’wah approaches in ways that remain relevant to students’ social realities. Previous studies on Muhammadiyah cadreization have largely emphasized ideological formation, organizational regeneration, or normative understandings of tajdid. Meanwhile, limited attention has been given to how da’wah communication strategies are developed and practiced by the Ikatan Mahasiswa Muhammadiyah (IMM) at the local level as an effort to reform cadreization. This gap is particularly important in IMM North Lampung, where da’wah activities are carried out through interpersonal communication, organizational forums, and new media platforms. This study focuses on the da’wah communication strategy of IMM North Lampung in strengthening Muhammadiyah cadreization and carrying the mission of tajdid. The concept of tajdid is understood in two dimensions: purification in matters of creed and worship, and renewal in responding to social, intellectual, and humanitarian challenges. The study examines how IMM North Lampung formulates da’wah messages, selects communication channels, builds cadre engagement, and integrates religious, intellectual, and humanistic values into its cadreization process. By highlighting da’wah communication as a strategic instrument of cadre reform, this study contributes to a deeper understanding of how Muhammadiyah’s student cadres negotiate Islamic renewal within contemporary youth and digital communication contexts.

Abstract

The rapid growth of digital technology has significantly transformed the practice of Islamic preaching, particularly through the emergence of preacher influencers on social media platforms. This study is conducted due to the increasing influence of digital preaching on public religious understanding and the growing concern over ethical challenges arising from the integration of religious messages with media logic. The study is based on the hypothesis that digital preaching practices are influenced by algorithmic systems and audience engagement demands, which may create tension between communicative effectiveness and the ethical principles of Islamic preaching. This research employs a qualitative approach with a phenomenological design. Data were collected through non-participant observation of preaching activities on social media and document analysis of digital content, including videos, captions, comments, and promotional materials. The data were analyzed using thematic analysis to identify patterns, trends, and ethical implications of digital preaching practices. The results show that digital preaching is predominantly presented in short, visually engaging, and emotionally driven formats that align with audience preferences and platform algorithms. However, this adaptation leads to the simplification of religious messages, the potential for misinterpretation, and the emergence of sensational communication styles. In addition, monetization practices indicate that preaching activities are increasingly integrated into the digital economic ecosystem. These findings confirm that there is a tension between the ethical values of preaching and the demands of digital media environments. This study concludes that there is a need to develop a contextual and adaptive ethical framework for digital preaching that maintains the integrity of Islamic values while responding to the dynamics of social media. The findings contribute to the advancement of preaching and communication studies by emphasizing the importance of ethics in digital religious practices.

Abstract

This research aims to explore the meaning-making of love within the film Puspa Indah Taman Hati (2023) from the perspective of Generation Z. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through Focus Group Discussions (FGD) with seven participants in Greater Jakarta and in-depth interviews with four film industry experts. The novelty of this research lies in the triangulation analysis that connects the industrial intervention in adapting a classic intellectual property with the meaning negotiation of modern audiences. The findings reveal that the film reconstructs classic romanticism by injecting contemporary egalitarian values. Textually, the visual narrative accentuates reciprocal relational validation. Crucially, the research demonstrates that Generation Z operates as active audiences who critically deconstruct the historical glorification of asymmetrical sacrifices. They reject toxic romanticism and redefine love as an egalitarian partnership upholding transparent communication and female autonomy. In conclusion, the discourse of love among young audiences has fundamentally shifted from tragic idealism toward a rational, mindful, and equitable affective relationship.

Abstract

The rapid development of digital technology and artificial intelligence has significantly transformed religious communication, particularly in the practice of Islamic preaching in social media environments. This study examines how artificial intelligence influences the transformation of digital da'wah, focusing on the communication strategies of preachers and their impact on the effectiveness of message delivery. The importance of this research lies in the growing reliance on algorithm-driven platforms, which reshape how religious messages are produced, distributed, and received by audiences. This study proposes that artificial intelligence positively influences the effectiveness of digital da'wah, both directly and indirectly through communication strategies, while ethical communication principles moderate this relationship. A quantitative explanatory approach was employed using survey data collected from 198 respondents consisting of digital content creators and audiences of online da'wah. The data were analyzed using structural equation modeling to examine relationships among variables. The results indicate that artificial intelligence significantly enhances communication strategies by enabling content personalization, audience analysis, and optimized message distribution. Communication strategies were found to play a crucial mediating role in improving audience engagement and understanding. Furthermore, ethical communication strengthens the relationship between artificial intelligence and da'wah effectiveness, ensuring that technological optimization remains aligned with religious values. These findings suggest that the effectiveness of digital da'wah is shaped by the integration of technology, strategic communication, and ethical principles. The study contributes to the development of communication and da'wah studies by proposing a multidimensional model in which artificial intelligence is not merely a tool but an influential component of the communication ecosystem. This research highlights the necessity for adaptive, data-driven, and ethically grounded communication strategies in the future of digital religious practices.

Abstract

This study examines the model of family interpersonal communication from an Islamic perspective and its implications for family conflict, personality development, and self-regulated learning. The research is grounded in the increasing concern over ineffective family communication patterns that contribute to unresolved conflicts, weak character formation, and low independent learning capacity among adolescents. Therefore, this study aims to develop an integrative communication model that incorporates Islamic values as a framework for understanding family interactions and their educational impact. The study hypothesizes that family interpersonal communication positively influences personality and self-regulated learning, while negatively affecting family conflict. Additionally, personality and family conflict are proposed as mediating variables in the relationship between communication and self-regulated learning. A quantitative approach with an explanatory survey design was employed. Data were collected from Muslim high school students using structured questionnaires and analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling. The results reveal that family interpersonal communication significantly enhances personality development and self-regulated learning, while reducing family conflict. Furthermore, personality and family conflict are found to mediate the relationship between communication and self-regulated learning, indicating that the influence of communication operates both directly and indirectly through psychological and relational processes. These findings confirm that communication grounded in Islamic values such as honesty, empathy, and kindness plays a crucial role in shaping individual behavior and learning autonomy. In conclusion, this study highlights the importance of strengthening family interpersonal communication as a strategic approach to fostering harmonious relationships, positive personality traits, and effective self-regulated learning. The findings contribute to the development of communication and dakwah studies by positioning family communication as a practical domain for the internalization of Islamic values in everyday life.

Abstract

This study examines the phenomenon of comment manipulation on the official Instagram account of the East Kalimantan Provincial Government (@pemprov_kaltim) by highlighting indications of the use of inauthentic accounts that have the potential to shape perceptions of public support digitally. The study aims to identify the characteristics of these accounts and analyze how inorganic comments shape public perception. The study uses a qualitative approach with content analysis methods, through data collection in the form of screenshots, profile searches, metadata recording, and direct observation of specific posts. The results show that the fake accounts have consistent patterns such as minimal activity, unclear identities, uniform comments, and close posting times. This pattern creates a simulation of support that is not rooted in actual public opinion, thus creating hyperreality according to Baudrillard's concept. This comment manipulation also functions as noise that disrupts public communication, damages deliberative space, and prevents institutions from obtaining fully authentic feedback. From the perspective of Islamic communication ethics, this practice is considered a tadlis act because it falsifies the impression and violates the principles of honesty and justice as emphasized in QS Al-Māidah verse 8. The findings of this study confirm that comment manipulation has the potential to weaken public trust and create a digital reality that does not reflect the actual social conditions.
